NEAT! But, as an aspiring journalist myself, I don't know if you can beat the WOW factor of minidisc. 150.00 is a good price, but is the audio quality up to par with minidisc? For my needs, minidisc still suffices...

Breaking News: Prototype Hi-MD Unit(s) Displayed @ CES
justin_barbier replied to Christopher's topic in News
Lower priced models with mic inputs and remote capability. More Hi-MD discs available. Headunits for the car. Decks. 24bit capability. Back lighting (if no remotes). Multiple band EQ. Incredibly small and sexy bodies (aluminum or magnesium). Digital amps similar to Sharp Auvi... I could go on forever -
How many of you are having problems with Sonicstage 2.x ?
justin_barbier replied to justin_barbier's topic in Software
eh, o well... I shall downgrade back to 1.5 then... seems to be the most stable for me... thanks! -
How many of you are having problems with Sonicstage 2.x ?
justin_barbier replied to justin_barbier's topic in Software
yep! :wacky: I'm virus , spyware, adware free with the most current Windoze updates. Most of my problems occur when doing "simple" tasks such as renaming a file for easier navigation on my player. Today, Sonicstage 2.3 failed on me 5 times. I reinstalled to no avail. This is getting strange all of a sudden. I was just wondering if anyone else was having such disastrous results!? lol -
I've updated (correctly) from 1.5 to 2.1, then to 2.2, and now to 2.3, but Sonicstage STILL locks up my p4 2.0 ghz laptop with 256 mb memory. I know my machine isn't the fastest, but I do not run any other progs while using Sonicstage (except for trillian and my cable connection.) I do NOT think it should STILL be this bad after soooo many updates and releases. Are there any fixes available? This is aggravating! The Sonicstage software isn't the best, however if it would at least RUN smoothly i'd be happy.... lol Anyone else having similar probs?
-
Well... IMO this is some pretty crappy software in general.. i get the same message ALL the time. I've installed Sonicstage 2.3 and it seems to be a little better, try doing that and see if it helps... sorry I can't offer you any more help, but this same problem keeps infuriating me as well.

MZ N710 simple Q recomend me some headphones!
justin_barbier replied to vapor matt's topic in 'phones
Hi, welcome to the forum! First off I suggest reading as many reviews as possible, and listening to as many models as possible. If I were you, I'd look at the Shure E2Cs, those are some very tough 'phones to beat, and for the price you can get them (less than 70.00 online,) I'd give them a serious consideration! gl -
ah i cant make up my mind if i wanna g35 or pursue my silvia project... the fx45 would be nice too, though anyway, i dont want to get the mods mad by discussing Nissan Co's GREAT vehicles... lol
-
Thank you very much Nismo... btw, just curious as to what you're driving. I have a 97 240sx that i wanna convert to silvia spec... with redtop and all... dreams lol

Anyone maybe has experience with remotes and compatability with other units other than mz-n510?
-
I like it, seems to not "lock-up" as much as 2.2 and previous releases...
-
First of all, feel free to move this if it is in the wrong forum. Secondly, and most importantly, I was wondering if there was a backlit remote that is supported by the mz-n510. After getting bored with my Hi-MD, I pulled out an older 510 and I've been using it a lot, but the remote sucks, and I'd really like a back light! I see that they have the RM-MZR55 remotes on ebay for like 30.00 plus shipping, this seems reasonable. I'm just wondering if my unit will support the back lighting. Thanks, in advance

Anyone ever hear of a sony ECM-MS909 mic?
justin_barbier replied to justin_barbier's topic in Live Recording
Yea, i talked the guy down to 25.00 and i made a few recordings with my band and the sound is really nice... caught bass drum and bass guitar really nicely... I guess 25.00 is a good price for a decent powered stereo mic... -
Anyone ever hear of a sony ECM-MS909 mic?
justin_barbier replied to justin_barbier's topic in Live Recording
Thanks!!! The guy was asking 50.00 btw -
Subject says it all.... I found one in a pawn shop and was wondering if it was any good.. i can't find any online literature pertaining to this particular mic.... thkz
-
This is actually what I ended up doing, to preserve the sound... my new himd came in and i recorded straight to pcm to see the sq, but i didn't hear much difference between straight pcm and hisp... im guessing b/c it's an album and it's analog... still, SUPER sq... thanks guys!
-
That's the problem though, I don't have a Hi-md YET... I'm waiting for my mz-nhf800 to come in
-
Well most of it is vintage rock... late 60's to mid 70's... stuff like Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues, Velvet Underground, The Beatles, Zeppelin, Black Sabbath (nothing can help their signature dirty sound, lol) stuff like this... i ripped most of it from vinyl, which would be a pain to do again, since most of the albums are in storage... listening to the MP3 repros of the vinyl, I cant really hear much of a difference, but then again I'm WAY to young to really know what vinyl's supposed to sound like.. lol
-
I know this has been gone over a lot, and most everyone says that the sound quality from taking lossy format (mp3) and compressing even further to "lossy" ATRAC sounds horrendous. Not having QUITE the definitive ear as an audiophile (per se), how would my 256-320kbps MP3s sound being transferred to hi-sp? Would it be acceptable? Thanks!
-
Perhaps this is worth waiting for  I'm torn with what to buy... I keep making excuses for not shelling out 250 for a mz-nh900, even though it is what I *want*... Fact is though, that HD DAPs have their own quirks... mainly it seems that their life expectancy isn't anywhere near as good as it is for the sony md players...
-
If you remember from my other post concerning the MZ-NH600D vs NHF800, etc. I've decided to just buy an older generation recorder for the recording capabilities and buy a 600D for the hi-MD capabilities... I'm doing it this way, because I see no justification in buying a top of the line hi-MD recorder when new models will be out within the next year... i've since been researching the digital amp, and I've come to the conclusion that it isn't something I desperately need... thanks again btw i'm looking at an r70 for 50.00 and a 600D for 110.00 with shipping and everything, I'll be paying less than 200.00 with the inclusion of items such as MDs, microphones, various cables, etc.
-
Just a quick question regarding the pros of digital amps on MD recorders: First off, I know the obvious answer is that the SQ will be a lot better with the dig amp. However, does this difference mean much considering ATRAC is compressed, thus there is a loss of some fidelity right off the bat? Regardless, I'm guessing this loss is probably more evident with the lower compressed ATRAC as opposed to higher compression. The reason I'm asking is because I want to get the nhf800, but the nh900 has a digital amp for less than 50.00 more than nhf800. That is the only feature I really care for on the nh900, everything else I want is included on the nhf800. Thanks! :wacky:

Question on increased dynamic range of MD over CD

Actually, you're making perfect sense! This all seems logical. Anyone with knowledge on this? I'd like to know as well...
