Well, as one who has an RH10 plugged into USB right at this time - I can't get any shock from my unit. I've touched it everywhere - with sweaty fingers at that - and nothing. Nada. Zilch. This is an interesting phenomenon, though.
-
I have both my silver RH10 and my blue N707 - and I'm glad I kept the latter. At the worst, I have used it (hacked with LINEOUT) to transfer some old songs of MDLP discs to Hi-MD. It's come in handy, for a few tracks I had imported through OpenMG Jukebox, and then lost from my PC. Now, it's a realtime recording, and then an upload through SS, and voila! I kinda/sorta have it back on my computer again. Plus, I don't know - I'm kinda nostalgic for 'vintage audio'.....
-
Well - it apparently works 95% of the time - it does crash on certain MP3s I try to import into the library. I'm sure if I keep screwing with it I can get something to happen.....I hope....

Well.....you may just well want to reccomend it - as it works! I think the biggest flaw I had was that I had previously removed SP2 - and I don't think it was completely off, nor was it completely-on when I re-installed it. Formatting the disk, and reloading Windows (along with updating everything possible) has allowed 3.1 to work flawlessly. I transfered some MP3s to the RH10, and transfered some recorded Loveline shows to the PC - both work fine. Oh, yea - the library importation problem has been resolved. Completely. (Knocks loudly on wood of vintage Pioneer reciever next to MD unit) This may have been an extreme measure - but it works great. The longest parts were to back-up my 30 gigs of critical data (not on Hi-MD, though) - and to update Windows with various patches and SP2. And SS 3.1. Although - I do still need to get MD Simpleburner 2 - but that's a small issue. On another note of good luck, I found last week that Michigan's only Sony Style store is no more than 20 minutes from my house - and they had a plethora of Hi-MD blanks there. Yea, the purple ones - and yea, no bulk discount, but I'm one for instant gratification - it's nice to find a local source for 'em. Thanks to all who've helped in oneway or another - I'm back in business! -Regards,

If yours has the 'custom' EQ modes, make it even easier by programming one (either Custom 1 or Custom 2) to have a flat EQ - just select that, turn volume up, and have at it. The picture is most definately a prototype/mockup of some sort. Look at the OLED - the display is completely different than the production units. The battery life, track progress display, track #, etc. are all on the bottom - as opposed to the top. Which, it could be just my unit or my naievety, but I really think that also sets the picture off as a very early unit - most likely for demo purposes only.

As far as 'searching' on the RH10 goes, too, try your jog wheel. When playing songs on the disc, go ahead and move it up and down - your screen will change to a list of all playable tracks on the disc, and you can scroll down and push to the one you want. Doesn't seem much slower than most MP3 players. I'm not certain if this is only for within groups or not - as I usually don't group my tracks. But I'll test that tonight, too.

My Hi-MD Walkman MZ-RH10 | Blue Pictorial
mcca6392 replied to Ishiyoshi's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
I usually don't plug people, but that seller is who I purchased my silver RH10 from. My experience was good; communication was prompt and regular, I was provided a tracking #, and the unit was NIB - just as promised. Also purchased 2 Hi-MD's from him, too - so my total with shipping was $350 - still less than what I would have paid for it through Audiocubes. Those who are looking for a Japanese spec unit would do well to consider that option. -
I bought my Japan-spec unit for 3 reasons: silver finish, LCD remote, and charging stand. As has been said before, you can live without the charging stand (AC adapter plugs directly into unit, or unit recharges via USB when plugged into computer), but having had one on my N707, I kinda liked it - and I like the one on the RH10 better. It's nice to come home after 'wearing' it, and to just set it on a stand, and watch it charge - rather than have to find the cable, plug it in, and find a place to set it down. Laziness? Perhaps - but it's a convenience. The RH10 stand is also much more sturdy than that on my N707 - that one simply had a plastic base, and it was easy to knock it out of the stand from side to side. This one envelops the player slightly more, and prevents that from happening. And while I liked my N707's non-LCD remote, the one on the RH10 shows me what I've been living without. Unless you're simply adjusting volume, playback, or track selections, the non-LCD remote's somewhat pointless. Unless you commit the menu screens to memory, you're not going to really be able to use some of it's functions to the fullest without pulling the player out, and looking at the screen. And by that point, what's the point of the remote, anyways? But that's my personal taste; if you're looking for a good player at a better price, perhaps the NA market player's better for you. Regardless, the RH10 is a nice unit, and I love mine - despite I've yet to get SS 3.1 working right yet......

Can't find any here in the US. The SonyStyle.CA doesn't seem to have 'em at the moment either, but they do have the MC-MDR1. Perhaps I'm naieve, but it's one of the first times I've seen this in NA at all.....hmm. Interesting....

Huh? Lol, I have no idea. Maybe I'm dumb, but I don't know what this "av code software" really is, let alone "ffdshow". Any other examples of this stuff? It's rather a moot point. Due to some accidental conflicts that occured when re-installing SS for the ump-teenth time, I'm now blessed with the priviledge of backing up my 30 gigs of data, formatting my disk drive (for the better, trust me), and re-installing XP. I'm then going to go about getting SS 3.1 to work first and foremostly; after that, the other "accessory" software is reloaded.

I'm not trying to comment-whore here, but after 40 views - any ideas on how to fix this? Otherwise, I'm going to have to call Sony....(shudder)....we'll see how that goes....

Well, after about one day of using the software, SS 3.1 decided to not like me again. And I'm back to square one. My main issue is when I attempt to import a mulitude of files into my library (e.g. more than one at a time). I get this error in a dialog box: Omgjbox.exe - Application Error The instruction at "0x6c1370ad" referenced memory at "0x5b2b7800". The memory could not be "read". I've reported the error to Microsoft; they say Sony has no support on this at this time. Here's the stats on my system: -XP Home -512 mb RAM -Direct X 9.0C -SP2 Installed -MDAC and JET are apparently up to most recent specs -"clean" re-installed software 4-5 times; no real change - albeit it will let me import multiple files for a little while; then decide to crash with the same results above. Will then do it anytime after that point. Can someone help guide me with a resolution to this issue? Thanks Evan

I have to say that these forums - and all the intellectual and helpful members on it - saved my Sonic Stage headaches. Followed all of the recommended steps today, and it works without a snag. Now - who do I make the check out to?

Well, after about 4 days of waiting, I got my Japan-spec silver RH10 in the mail on Thursday. And yes, I was anxious as all heck to get it. Gotta say, no pics of the silver can really do it justice to what it is in person (that's part of the reason I don't have pics up yet...). It shines, reflects, and diffracts almost simultaneously. I've had quite a few comments from iPodisti who can't believe a player can look as elegant as this. The LCD remote is a godsend (had buttons-only on my N707) for me, especially when I'm on the run. I typically put my player in a sealed Otterbox, and run the cable out. Now I'm no longer guessing on menus, settings, etc. And the OLED is simply beautiful. Very easy to read, especially at night, and contrary to what I initially thought, it doesn't become very obscured by light reflecting upon the player's surface. The titling characters matrix is really neat - and contrary to some reports, all the characters do fit onto the screen. Like I said, I haven't been able to get pictures up - and that's mostly because I've been farting around with SonicStage 3.0 the last two days. Simpleburner works fine; SS crashes with DB errors. Thanks to these forums, I'm on it. I cleared registry files tonight, and got it working somewhat. But it soon reversed, and if I try to import more than a single song at a time, it'll crash with the same error. Any form of transfering to MD is perfect - and I'm rather surprised at how much more quickly and smoothly it goes as compared to my N707. Maybe it's Hi-MD, maybe it's the native MP3 support. Regardless, it's nice. As for the tech problems, I've got 3.1 downloaded at work (bet you can guess how I'll transfer that file.....), and I'm working to get some of my DB patches up and current. I know people say SP2 is a critical factor - but having had problems with it before, I had taken it off my laptop - and now MS won't let me download it again. I'll get it somehow - I hope.... My only complaints are as follows: -Still a little noisy in terms of mechanism noises. Nowhere as bad as my Sony "ES" tape decks, though, and quieter than my N707. -Apparently didn't come with an optical cable. I'll check the packaging again, but I don't think it was included. -Ear buds, but I think that's mainly a personal preference. They sound nice, just are (very) uncomfortable to me. I'm enamored regardless. I found a good seller for this, and I think I chose a good product. And until I get my SS issues fixed, it'll be used like this: Hacked N707 on "Line-Out" - 1/8" male to male cable - RH10 "Line-In". But hey - flexibility of recording sources is yet another reason why I buck the iPod mindset....

The RM-MC35ELK you mention is a good remote. Granted, I've only had my Japan-spec RH10 a couple of days, but it's easy to use, the backlight's clear, and compared to my non-LCD remote from my N707, it's lightyears better. I think if you're looking to keep it below $70, it's a good option for you.

Hat Trick For MDCF? - Service Mode + 2nd Gen Hi-MD
mcca6392 replied to Christopher's topic in Essential Hi-MD info/FAQ's.
Oh bleep. I just ordered my Japanese-spec RH10 the otherday. I really hope that's not the case - but if it is, oh well; if I'm using Sonicstage to get those MP3s into the HiMD, I guess I may as well ATRAC them while I'm at it ..... -

Bless you. I should have my silver RH10 by Wednesday - and what you just gave me was a lifesaver. BTW - I read you bought one of those extended-life Korean gumpacks on another forum. How was the ordering process there? I'm thinking of going with one myself. Thanks for all your help! -

That's beautiful. I'm trying to decide whether I should shell out the extra $$$ for a colored/LCD remote-d RH-10 from overseas, or go with the US market one. Out of curiousity, are your menus all in Kanji? I know it's a dumb question - but I think it would make and/or break my decision making. -
As difficult as per se pointing me to where this was spoken about before? Seriously, I'm new here, and I've got the resources to try this. I've tried searching these forums, and was really hoping for some help, or at least a point/link to a prior discussion/thread about this? I'd appreciate any help.

Hi Everyone, New to the forums, but I've had a NetMD N707 for about two years now, and overall, love it. I'll be saving for a HiMD in the coming months. I do have a quick question: Does anyone have any info in terms of how the supplied remote controls work? Mainly in terms of the control pins? I have the service manual for my N707, and I can't seem to find anything about it. I would like to try to cobble up an IR remote/beambox that would allow me to control my N707 wirelessly. I have it usually hooked up to my stereo componentry, and don't like having to sit near it or walk up to it to change tracks. If I had some idea in terms of what pins control what, or what signals trigger certain functions, I could try to get something wired up for this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Evan
