Those PC people have always been all IPods and other mp3 players, but here is the news about the 2d generation HI-MD. The translation is: Sony is determined to make MD survive. MP3 era begins in MA players. A very positive news, and I wonder where they got that news. I am sure they've never visited minidisc.org once in their lifetime. So I assume the news is official. Then why Sony is asking websites to remove the pictures and all. [attachmentid=71]

As I have written to another topic recently 1 of my 1 gig disc is defective. I recorded a concert and while messing with a track mark it deleted everything but the 1st track... then it didnt come out of my NH1, then I noticed that the metal part was slided down and hadnt come up, then it gave all kinds of errors, tried to write some system files but was unsuccessful. I suspected my NH1, but that specific disc gave a C15 error on my deck, instead of displaying HI-MD Disc message. Then all of a sudden, after I have burnt some music to other MD's, it magically started to work again. I really dont know whether to rely on this disc or not. It's code is: 4DAA170SE
-
I just asked this as some kind of poll. Of course I know how to format.
-
After I wrote the topic I checked hispace website. Though MD is mentioned no product was displayed. How do you discriminate then the ones formatted to HIMD and the conventional ones? Thats why I started to format hispace MD's, otherwise I write HIMD on the label.
-
I kinda like its name. HiSpace=HIMD, and I am able to know which ones are formatted to HIMD in my huge MD archive. Does anyone know if the French mpo is still manufacturing this brand?
-
The disc which gave me a hard time yesterday started to work again after I've burned some other MD's with my NH1. Do you think the seller will believe me when I return this disc? I had tried this disc on my JB940, and instead of HI-MD disc, it also had reporded error, C15 or something like that.
-
Yes I tried other discs. Just now recording some CD's via SB. I instantly accused the hardware, but you know, I've been using MD's for more than 10 years now, used at least 500 blanks of all brands, and I had never ran into a defective disc. I dont know why my concert recording has been deleted except the 1st track after inserting a track mark, maybe just a coincidence, and the disc was defective but hadnt died yet.

Yeah it was a wonderful concert of London Baroque with Emma Kirkby... all GONE!
-
It appears that the MD was defective... but not when I used it today for the first time.... or NH1 caused something... I dont know, but I think I was happier with NetMD. My old N1 never caused any problem. I recorded my lectures with it, made interviews, etc... I will be very uneasy in using this one from now on.

It finally came out. I was surprised to see the metal moving part was not there. I searched the ground to see if I had dropped it. NO! Then I realised it was still on the disc but slided down and never came up when I took it out. Probably thats why I had difficulty in taking it out. I placed another MD and it played well. So I think that was a defective 1 gig MD bought from Minidisco. So what do I do? But a bit releived to see the NH1 was not defective. Horrible night!

I am MAD! Going berserk! Tonight I was at a beautiful concert, and made my first recording with my NH1. Everything went well, and on my return I noticed 3 groups were created but there were nothing in the 3d group. I hadnt used track marks at the 1st part of the concert, so I tried to put a track mark while I was listening to the beautiful music. I had made a PCM recording on a 1gig MD. Track mark is created, then suddenly I noticed a sudden activity, the red lighy went berserk as I am now, and I read the message, somethin like error creating file, and everything disapeared. After the concert the remainig space was 8MB, now it is 864MB free space. There is a bug with Sony Hi-MD, and I dont know what, but my recording has just been evaporated. Is this just a downloder, or a recorder. Shame on you Sony! Now I understand why Sharp was so cautious in going into Hi-MD business. Now Sony will go into 2d generation. Just learn to produce decent equipment. I will never buy a 1st generation from Sony anymore.

SS 2.3 I first thought that this error was happenning when it could not find the CD @ cddb, but then saw that whether it finds or not it returns this error. Then again it stopped reporting "this CD is not in the database" message, and goes on searching the CD forever. I know this because when I search cddb whitin SS it reports that the CD is not there. I will try to uninstall and reinstall SB.
-
Every time I try to burn with the new SB I receive mdrcreg.exe error, but the program is working. Has any of you encountered this error?

I have never had an Onkyo in my long history of High Fidelity. I was really provoked to see this deck, but missing USB support is a real minus. I dont think Sharp will release a Hi-MD deck... maybe some portable recorders. I am very hopeful of a Sony deck. I would like a Denon deck, but they have long left the technology. So I will be waiting a bit. I would like something with a large LCD screen remote for my old eyes.

Though I am mad at Sony's changing the tecnology so frequently, and though I am an Atrac man rather than mp3, and though I also own a HD1... I think I will go for a RH10, just to throw up my NH1 to the pile of older units starting with MZ-R3. GOD! How much I have invested on Minidiscs. I will have to have this unit, for I am a collector. Still I am waiting for a decent HiMD deck.
-
I had ordered 4 from minidisco, used 2 of them. During the past 10 years I've accumulated more than 500 MD's, some of them still in their original packages. So I have tons of 74/80 MD's waiting to be formatted to Hi-MD. Maybe it is time to go for the sparklings and Luminas waiting in their jackets.... still I dont know, maybe it's better to keep them untouched as a part of my collection
-
And what about charging over USB, without using the craddle? It says nothing on that. Will we be able to use it without the craddle?
-
I re-initialized that disc, and reloaded with goodies. Now it works fine. None of this happened with my other HI-MD discs. Maybe the TOC of that disc had lost its mind.
-
Nice find. Though your links expired I could find it with a bit of search. I made a machine translation, and I read LP2/LP4 cannot exist together with HISP/LP within the same disc. Is that specific to ONKYO? We know that you can record LP2/4 on a HIMD formatted disc. I think the info they are giving is wrong. Still I am waiting for SHARP, they used to have wonderful mini MD systems. C'mon SHARP!

This is happenning for the first time. SS 2.3 says: "Cannot use this disc as an audio disc because it was initialized by a program other than SS / Check properties etc...." SB says: "Cannot continue because files on this disc are being used by another program" I open and close the NH1, or just read the contents without USB connection, then hook up again to the PC and it works OK. Whats going on? Has any1 experienced this?
-
unless the minidisc is formatted as HI-MD. You have to chose NetMD format.
-
I really wonder whether a firmware update would be enough. I think there will be a chip replacement too. I dont think firmware upgrade will let us use our hd1 without craddle, maybe only mp3 support. I would like my hd1 to be charged via USB like hd3, and it may need some physical changes, not only software.

I had this computer crash, and my Sony Albums folder was not recognized by SS. Thanx to himdrenderer I converted all my albums to wav and back to atrac. Sony's program cant and wont to that. I had some songs purchased from Connect that I couldnt move to another PC they were also converted to wav and back to atrac. SONY WONT DO THIS ESPECIALLY. Himd renderer rocks! Thanx Marcnet.

Kurisu, I will diagree on that, though you can use nh1's USB cable with hd1 (it fits) hd1 will ask for AC power adapter. Since it uses the only 1 place for connection it is unusable without power adapter. I bought this hd1 in september and hated it the moment I bought it. I wasnt able to wait for more for mz-nh1 and had bought that one. I am glad that I got a city protection plan. I will get rid of it soon. Since I dont live in the US I will have to wait until May to replace it with somethin else at Circuit City. What is the use of a HD player if you cant hook it directly to your PC? SONY is an idiot... but I love MD. Being using all kinds of it since 1996.
