after a year and a few months of being a happy owner of an RH10, it has stopped functioning properly. The battery does not fully charge (replaced the battery) and the slightes tap to it while it is playing will completely turn the power off. Upon resuming, it picks up from random spots on the disc as oppossed to where it left off playing. Also when i connect it to my cpu via usb, i get an error message (access error) i checked on sony's site, and since it is out of warranty, i have to pay a flat rate fee of approx $180.00for exchange to a refurb unit. For this price I may as well get the other half and buy a new RH1. Not only that, but i'm a little concerned about owning these units again since this unit died just from a year of real good use. i have only dropped it once or twice over the course of the year, and i havent dropped it in the past 8 or 9 months. pretty wierd that all of a sudden things start going haywire. i do have a question though. What are my chances of getting over on sony by sending in the unit to have the alphabet/labeling problem corrected? does anyone know if they are really correctly programming these units or just swapping them out with working units? just curious..doesnt hurt to try either way, but before i go through the hassle of sending this one back in for nothing, it would be nice to have an idea.

i'm interested in knowing what effect (if any) this has on the "crippled" mp3 playback issue of the generation 2 units. Since this is the closest thing to drag and drop, shouldnt there be a difference in the sound of mp3's as compared to those transferred from sonicstage, or was it deduced that the players were actually doing the crippling, not sonicstage?

Confirmed Third Generation Hi-MD Release Date For USA
Abbstrack replied to Christopher's topic in News
hi I'm hoping to get clarification on this issue. Ive checked and it doesnt seem like i've seen a final answer, so perhaps someone has it. as a pc and a mac user, and someone who owns 2 md players/recorders and is only considering purchasing the rh1 for its suppossed mac capabilities (the other 2 md's i own are not mac compatible), will i be able to both upload and download tracks to/from my md player using a mac? (either with existing software or forthcoming software that someone may be aware of at this point). -
maybe a dumb question, but have you tried pulling out and reinserting the battery as a reset option? my rh10 froze on me last thursday while on the subway, just went into a completely paused/loading state, and no button pushed would work (even ejected the disk and reinserted with no success), until i took out the battery and put it back in, and everything was fine

if it were only so easy. if i have an mp3 @ 192kbps, sonicstage will not allow me to put it into atrac @ 256kbps..it will only allow me to convert to 132 or less...so its a double whammy..because not only do i have to forfeit my mp3 capability, i'm also forfeiting atrac @ its top quality... i'd say this is reason enough to be upset as a consumer.

hm..i wonder what would happen someone were to contact sony as a tech support issue b/c of the less than stellar mp3 playback. i mean if sony is advertising these units as native mp3 playback units, and at the same time degrading the playback sound of the mp3's, i would think as consumers there should be some sort of recourse, esp. if enough people call looking to exercise their warranties on these units. or am i dreaming?

Has anyone tested the 2nd Gen Hi-Md's to see if the algorithms were fixed in order to ensure true shuffle playback? unfortunately i dont have the time (or know how) to conduct this kind of test based on different hypothesis, but i do remember the thread about the 1st gen Hi-Md, and with my nhf800 i remember plenty of times putting the unit on shuffle only to hear the same songs repeated throughout the playback. im listening to my rh10 on shuffle now, and ive been shuffling since this morning with no repeats, but im hesitant to use 1 trial as proof positive that it has been fixed.

it's no more complicated than what you just described. thats all you gotta do. the simplicity and complexity of md, all in one fell swoop. gotta love it.

can you trick it? what happens if you're playing a song that is not 1 on the disc, and then you put your player into shuffle? or will it just revert to the 1st song once the song you're listening to ends?

when i purchased my nf810ck from the sonystyle website, it came with a car kit (tape adapter), as well as a cigarrette lighter charger. i now use both with my nhf800.

my simpleburner also allows for PCM transfers...and im in the US. however i am not on my home cpu so i cant verify which version i have. sorry homies.

thansk dex, i'll have to keep that in mind, though i dont recall reading that sort of warning in the manual, but its likely i skimmed and completely missed that. at any rate, that is certainly a drawback, although not a big one, esp. considering as you said this being a 1st gen unit.

hello.. i have an nhf800, and when i record, i can hear the sound of moving parts, almost like a clicking noise (perhaps it the disc turning?) I am wondering if this is an issue thats specific to my player, or all md's..quite honestly i dont recall that noise on my former recorder (nf810ck) it also seems this would defeat any purpose if i tried recording my plugging my mic directly into my md without any extension cord. just curious.

my manual makes no mention of it being used as a charger either. and it does not come with a rechargeable battery, at least the US version that I purchased a week before this past monday...so the part about not charging any battery other than what it came wth is moot for US users.
