Mz-nh-900 Problem With Cancel Button
The Low Volta replied to yup's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
this problem was already discussed... please read this thread first http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showt...t=0entry48909 as you will see, there isn't really a 'do it yourself'-solution glad to be of assistance -
sorry people for not keeping you up to date... I brought my NH900 back to the shop where I bought it. There were 2 technicians present... luckily, when I was showing the first one what happened (or didn't correctly happen) while pressing the buttons, my little wonderful machine acted 'as usual' (which means not!); but when the second guy walked in, he asked what the problem was and then he himself pushed some buttons and ...of course everything worked fine. If it hadn't been for the first technician, I would definately have been sent away, 'cause my problem was caused by me not being able to press buttons decently... As it was now, it got sent back to Sony and was repaired (not replaced, I checked the serial number)! Ok, it took 5 weeks, but up until now all buttons function as intended (knock on wood) and I have successfully used it to record interviews and lectures and (a little less successfully, due to my inferior mono mic) rock/metal concerts... but that's another thread. So I would say success... ...albeit I DO encounter some mysterious gaps (right in the middle of a song) during playback now and then... will the horror continue? eek, eek, eek

the problem with the menu button did occur pretty immediately... I only noticed the stop/pause button-problem after a couple of weeks... so I don't really know if a check in the shop is sufficient...sorry
-
well, I took my player back to the shop where I bought it: Electro Service (Selexion) in Hasselt, so I could show them what happened (or didn't happen ) but the reaction was quite similar... "what? this is the first HiMD we ever got in for repairs... are you sure something's wrong?" and even after I showed them, one of the guys there said I couldn't enter the menu 'cause I was bad at pushing the button, even though he admitted the stop/pause button was quircky!?! "see I got in the menu at the first try!" duh It could still be that they will just exchange it, but the shop wasn't allowed to make that decision by themselves, so now I'm waiting... hope that whatever they return (new or repaired player) works fine... but otherwise, I would suggest that we bundle forces and write a (paper) letter of complaint with both the stories and signatures to Sony Belgium or something that will teach them (lol)

well, that's the second mentioning of Belgium and faulty NH-900's...I bought mine in Hasselt (Belgium) and my serial number was 5034820 (how big IS a batch?) I've just returned my player to Sony (the shop wouldn't exchange it immediately ) so for now I'm Hi-MD-deprived and anxiously waiting for Sony's solution (will they 'repair' it or will I get an exchange like most of you??) I will keep you all posted on the progress and of the solution... update: I also sent a report with my remarks to Sony.be service centre: here's what they responded: "Gezien de aard van het probleem raden wij u aan om een Erkende Hersteldienst van Sony te contacteren." or in English (my own translation): "Due to the nature of the problem we advice you to contact a Sony Approved Repair Service Centre." ...well, that's some great help! Am I guessing wrong, or is this a very standard mail? By the way, they also included the adresses of two possible forementioned Service Centres and a small remark that this centre will also determine the price?!? (didn't I state in my report that my player is still under warranty? I'm very positive I did!) Well Sony makes brilliant players and in my modest oppinion invented a great medium (not so sure about the atrac-format or ss) but the service stinks a bit

asides from turning the volume up, it ignores alle eq settings... so you don't get distorted sound from double equalizers (MD and stereo), line out gives the clearest sound if you've got a decent stereo. Have noticed that with small boxes (without a real eq) 'headphone out' and the players eq work better. hope to have helped... by the way, I'll wait for the Sony reply about our problems (jenna's got them too) but if they don't come up with anything usefull soon, I'll be exchanging my player... it's way too nice and brilliant to piss me off in this irrational way :-)

hi there, know how you're feeling...I have exactly the same problem and even more (unable to enter the menu a lot of the time) with my (brand new 18/12/04) NH-900! We'd already started a thread in technical support aptly named 'Entered the NH-900 twilight zone?' but to no avail, even the alknowing ;-) kurisu didn't have a clue what to do with it... just for the record i'll post a resume of my former posts here... maybe someone pops up with a little advive after all: "In this next bit I'm talking about the buttons on the player... I haven't noticed any problems with the remote. But still, even with a functioning remote, I would like a functioning player too... so to recapitulate the problems: - pushing 'stop' on the player while playing a track resulted in jumping to the next track (and playing on) - pushing 'pause' on the player resulted in either jumping to the next track and playing on er did nothing at all these problems disappeared TEMPORARILY after I had repeatedly jumped forwards and backwards in between tracks using the intended ('<<' & '>>') buttons (on the player) My player was connected to my stereo (line out), so I couldn't use the remote later I also encountered the problem that entering the (basic) menu, by holding the 'navi/menu' button on the player down for two seconds, was impossible. I only got the 'navigation menu' or a 'cancel' message (or a rapid alternation of both). (these are the problems Jenna too encountered) so... I hope this more precise explenation gives you an idea of my problems... thank you for your attention and I hope you could help us" P.S.: and just to reassure you, it's still under warranty, so I won't be dissecting it (yet) ;-) P.P.S.: I've also posted my problems at the Sony Hi-MD helpdesk, wonder if they will have any suggestions (haven't heard anything yet)

What Are Your Favourite Albums In Your Collection?
The Low Volta replied to yamagatacamille's topic in The Loft
Well, like most people here choosing five is doing a lot of other records wrong, but here's my all time favourite list...at this moment ;-) The Mars Volta - Deloused in the comatorium Tool - AEnema Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley DJ Shadow - Endtroducing Godspeed You Black Emperor - Levez Vos Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven P.S.: Hooverphonic is OK for a Belgian band, but check out the likes of 'the Evil Superstars', 'dEUS' and 'Millionaire'... Belgium might be a shitty little country but it still has very good beer and a couple of brilliant bands!!! -
of course, '-> in record' was the button I meant, sorry for the mistake (I didn't check the program anymore before posting)... strange, even with CDR's of very bad quality (scratched and very old) 'record' seems to work for me... have you tried any other cd's (non cdR and definately not with self-recorded music on them?) just to eliminate possibilities. If these work fine, you could be quite sure it's a format incompatibility... but then again, I'm only a beginner myself who's only used SonicStage so I'm kinda unknowing and crappiness-numb ;-)

hi Darjama, Don't know about the samplitude stuff, but I've succesfully transferred CDR's to 'my library' with SonicStage... one of the first things everyone asks when it comes to SonicStage, have you got the latest version (2.3)? Then, as far as I know, to copy a cd to your library: just start SonicStage, insert the CD in your computer, go to 'music source' (the blue button on the top-left next to 'my library') and simply press transfer (after setting your preferred format and bitrate) I hope I could help (and that you hadn't already tried all this) but believe me, there is no shame in being unable to work with SonicStage right away... Sony makes good players but it's software is very doubtfull... (hope the renewed interest in SonicStage helps) although... before I forget, the players - and then I especially mean the NH-900 - can be a pain in the 'behind' too... if you don't know what I'm talking about, go see my thread 'entered the NH-900 twilight zone?' in the technical support area...

Have just tried the compressed air cleaning (about half a can!), but to no avail... still skips tracks in stead of stopping... this time I turned 'beep' on, and noticed that my little troublemaker squeels quite anxiously (beeps a few times, bee-ee-beep like) when it skips... I'm getting quite worried (and annoyed), I'd hate to find out that my hard earned and precious (still a student) money (about $270) has brought troubles instead of endless Hi-MD-joy ;-)

as I forgot to mention ofcourse (but then again, it was my first post ever), I'm talking about the buttons on the player... I haven't noticed any problems with the remote. But still, even with a functioning remote, I would like a functioning player too... so to recapitulate the problems: - pushing 'stop' on the player while playing a track resulted in jumping to the next track (and playing on) - pushing 'pause' on the player resulted in either jumping to the next track and playing on er did nothing at all these problems disappeared after I had repeatedly jumped forwards and backwards in between tracks using the intended ('<<' & '>>') buttons (on the player) My player was connected to my stereo (line out), so I couldn't use the remote later I also encountered the problem that entering the (basic) menu, by holding the 'navi/menu' button on the player down for two seconds, was impossible. I bought my player on 18/12/2004 in a shop from the Selexion Group in Hasselt, Belgium so very unlikely that it's from the same batch, unless you're Belgian too I guess that for now I too will wait with sending my player back to Sony (especially 'cause I don't like the idea of going without the brilliant thingy) Anyway, it's nice to know I'm not alone out there :-) so thank you! ...but I still hope one of the very experienced people on these fora could solve our problems with some 'magic' advice
-
well, it's time for NH900 twilight zone the sequel... I was just handling my Hi-MD-player (same as above) when I encountered problems with entering the (basic) menu on the player. The manual instructs to hold the button 'navi/menu' down for about two seconds, but when I tried it, the display rapidly switched between the navi-menu and a 'cancel' message, even when I held it down really firmly. This looks like some kind of bad contact, or I'm really lousy at holding buttons down... well, hope to hear from you all wether I'm the only one experiencing strange button behaviour and, if not, what I can do to cure my dear little machine thanxalot (far cousin of Lancelot) P.S.: sorry for the lousy pun

Hello, my first post on any forum ever, and it had to be this one... I'm the proud owner of a MZ-NH900: sounds fantastic and never even had SonicStage crashes ;-) but then again I very quickly updated to the newest version... "so what's the problem then?" I hear you asking... well... since a few days, my buttons don't function the way they used to... first a scetch of the situation: I was just playing a track on a Hi-MD disc my player was attached (line-out) to a stereo system so there was no remote attached and the anoying beep was turned off... (ah and my battery indicator only showed one block left) and then: I pressed 'stop' which resulted in my player jumping to the next track and playing on; when I pressed stop again and again, it just skipped to he next track again, but never stopped. 'pause' didn't react at all. when I deliberately jumped to the next track with the intended button, all problems diappeared (for now). 'stop' functioned as stop again and 'pause' had woken up. a few hours later I experienced this exact problem again. Can anyone tell me what happened? Was it the setup that caused problems? (I personnaly think not, but then again 'I knowa nothing' when it comes to technology issues.) The battery? If it's a technical fault in my player, can and should I try to fix it myself (with your help ofcourse) or should I let the store and Sony handle it, but then I would have to miss my player for god knows how long :-( allready eternally gratefull waiting THE answer to all
