  1. My Sennheiser PX-100's work well enough with my NH-900, just don't expect extra loud volumes. I finally broke down and got Shure E3's ($112 on an internet special) and they just blow me away, even while mowing the yard.
  2. I am using SS3. When transferring CD's to MD, I have been using Hi-Sp, without knowing the 256kps version would be kept in My Library instead of the PCM version. Fine, I can deal with that, I've only transferred 8-10 albums and can start over if need be. However, when I tried to do a sound comparison between 105 kps and 132 kps, I encountered a problem. First, it was no problem making a MD with the settings at 105 kps. However, when I next tired to make a 132 kps MD, by changing the settings to 132 kps, all the songs were transferred at the 105 kps rate. My Library still shows the songs stored at HiSp and will let me transfer at that rate if I do a same rate transfer in settings, but will not do a 132 kps. I then tired a transfer in Hi-LP which worked. So I guess if I had dome the 132 kps first and then the 105 kps transfer, it would have worked. So, now the real questions. What is the explanation? Does the program keep a converted file in memory? Can it be deleted? Is there anything I can do to keep this from happening again?
  3. I had a similar problem with drum distortion with Mic-in, low sensitivity. Sound Professionals recommended an inexpensive battery box that was around $45. I now use Line-in with the battery box and can turn the recording level up to about 22-24, even up to 27 if the volume is not real loud, without any distortion.
  4. With Line-in, using a battery box, I usually set the level to about 25. I only used 15-17 when I went Mic-in, low sensitivity.
  5. I recently (a month and a half ago) bought the 900 to record my daughters Christian rock band and have been very pleased so far. I bought my mirophone set from Sound Professionals for $109, not the most expensive but not cheap either. The sound has been very good, but I had to keep the manual volume setting low to avoid topping out. I just ordered a battery box to increase the SPL allowed by the mics. I plan to try both mic in and line it recording next at their practice on Monday and will post an update. About the batteries, someone posted on this site about a clearance sale on an upgrade rechargeable battery for $3.50 and I bought 3. With the new batteries, I haven't needed to use the AA addition for a 2 hour PCM recording session and for just playback, it lasts two days of moderate to heavy use without a recharge. Also with SS 2.3 and the new WCT, I haven't had any problems downloading and burning CD's.
  6. Thanks for the reply. But, I wasn't really worried about sound degradation from rerecording. I was more worried about Sonicstage's 1 time only downloading of tracks that I have seen people complain about. I just wondered if SS put this info on each downloaded track's info or on some TOC or such info regarding the disk itself. Any answers?
  7. I finally got a box of five 1 gig disks and plan to do live weekly PCM recordings of my daughter's Christian rock band. I plan to transfer the recordings to my computer and then use the WCT in order to make copies to CD. Once I was sure the procedure had worked, I planned to delete the files from the 1 gig disk and then start the whole process again next week. My question is, will Sonicstage leave some residual information on the disk, even though I have deleted all the tracks, that will prevent me from downloading next week's recording.
  8. So to be able to burn CDs, after I download the PCM files in Sonicstage, I have to convert them using the WCT? Of course, I knew I had to download them to make digital copies, I just didn't know I had to convert them before they could be burned to usable CDs. Thanks Dex.
  9. I know this sounds like a stupid question, as it seems logical that I would not. But I just wanted to be sure.
  10. I bought the SP-CMC-2A and have been very satisfied in my two recording sessions. I have not purchased a battery box yet as the two groups I will record most (at church) use electronic drums which have yet to really push the headroom. I'm still new to this game so I may end up with a batt. box at some point. Sound Professionals told me the matching box to my mics was around $60, which shouln't break the bank if the need arises..
  11. Just got three in last night. Charged them up and the first one played at least 3 hours today without the level meter budging. Mush better than the NH-10WM that came with my MZ-NH900. What a deal. Thanks for the tip.
  12. After spending two weeks pouring over interesting topics on this site, I took the plunge and ordered a MZ-NH900 and SP-CMC-2A mics from Sound Professionals to update my previous netMD. The main reason was to record my daughter's Christian rock band at church. It arrived Friday. Based on info gleaned here I set the mic to low sensitivity and manual volume to 16/30 as the electronic drums were not too loud. I was about 40 feet from the band and recorded in Hi-SP on an 80 minute disc. I then used a link on these pages to upgrade my SS to version 2.3 and then downloaded Sony's wave conversion tool. It was then easy to download my recording to my hard drive in SS, covert the file with the WCT and record a CD with my existing Windows XP media software. I think the result for a newbie was incredible and wish I knew how to set up a link to share my results. Thanks for all the help to those who pass on their valuable knowledge.
