  1. Ok, since he is attempting to both libel and possibly defraud me, I feel obligated to respond here due to the first: 1) I never had this problem, and I have a recording with an alternate source archived on CD in unedited form to back it up. It should be easy to hear the problem without comparing it to another source however, because if it is off by as much as he claims, it would be readily apparent without comparison or analysis. If in doubt, you could even strum along with a standard concert-tuned guitar and tell that it doesn't match up. 2) He e-mails me one day out of the blue threatening to report me to paypal before attempting me to let me resolve the issue. I respond in less than 26 hours later asking for more details, and he provided me (slightly over 28 hours later) with a lot of technical information and demands that I let him return the item, but that I must refund his money first and to a paypal account using a completely different e-mail address (on a free email server instead of the e-mail address through his own website that he sent the payment from and has been emailing me through; though his website seems to be a front as well as he has no information about his "business" there other than an e-mail link and a small thumbnail of a house). Slightly less than 18 hours later, I got the paypal dispute notice in my e-mail; that's assuming there's no delay between a buyer filing it and the seller receiving notification. Even worse is that his last e-mail was sent at about 2:30pm my time, and I work 11:30am - 8pm and don't have access to my home e-mail from work. I stay up late doing work for my online college class, so I definitely was not even awake by 8:15am the next day when I received the dispute. 3) More detail pertaining to #1...he says it's off by 4 minutes per half hour (8 minutes per hour), which is a HUGE difference of 13.3% if fast or 11.8% if slow. However, his story keeps changing, because his e-mail says it's not a consistent amount, indicating via e-mail that another 30 minute track was off by 1 minute 47 seconds. It changed again in this post, because if it was really off by 4 minutes per half hour, a time stretching program would need to be set to 86.7% (fast) or 88.2% (slow), not 83%. I should add that he indicating it is slow, meaning a 30 minute, umm, "performance" nets a 34 minute file upon transfer. If you want to see how bad this is, take any soundfile you have and stretch it by 13.3% in your sound editor of choice...it will sound horrendously slow! Since he is taking it to the forums and filed a dispute with paypal, I will respond to him here with the same resolution I will propose to paypal once I am advised on how to do that, as I have closed my paypal account after his hasty warning (see http://www.paypalsucks.com to see what happens to your bank accounts when a seller has a dispute filed, whether valid or no...I can't afford to have money in my bank account frozen as I sold this unit from a position of financial hardship in the first place)...we did not agree on any sort of return policy, I believe the unit is functioning properly and within accepted tolerances (the unit is an NHF-800 and is therefore not a pro deck with timecode, if such an animal in the Hi-MD world exists) and am unmoved by his claims that the unit is faulty, and further I sold it to him in good faith that this is the case. He did not ask for any test recordings before the sale, though I would have provided if asked. Him asking for a return on this is akin to trying to return clothes to a garage sale the next day, doesn't work that way. Nevertheless, if he is willing to send it in to a Sony authorized technician and it is found to be faulty, I will reimburse him for the costs associated with shipment and repair if official invoices are provided, not copies. This was not sold as a "new in box" unit, and the price charged definitely reflects that (far below even the clearance prices charged for this unit when factoring in the number of used and new regular and Hi-MD disks included), therefore there is no warranty through me in reality or implied. If that is not acceptable, then he can try to sell it to someone else whose needs may not be as discerning as his.
  2. Again, if you read the top, I'm taking any offers. Somebody told me to post a price, so I did. If you are interested in buying, feel free and make me an offer. If you're not, kindly take your advice elsewhere, thanks.
  3. Ok then...they're going for about $190 shipped brand new, I've only used mine about 10x and more than half of that is transfers to the PC, I'm including tons of extra stuff...how about $190 shipped for the whole package?
  4. *bump* Nobody even wants to make an OFFER? I mean, serious and reasonable offers only, but I haven't even had ONE bite...come one guys.
  5. I'm selling my NHF-800 Hi-MD unit. It's been used about 10x for taping and transferring. I will include all of my Hi-MD's (I'm counting 5 Hi-MD and at least 15 regular MD's), as well for you to have my masters or erase for your own use, whatever you please. Bands taped include Built to Spill (+all opening acts), Local H x3, Weezer (9/3/00 @ Metro, Chicago). Make your best offer at twoheadedboy@stonepool.com.
  6. Would it be possible to power the unit through the USB w/o the lithium battery in place with something like this: http://www.bixnet.com/usbbatterybox.html (I know it's not available there anymore, but there are other similar units out there, this was the first pic I could find). If I can, I'll get one. If not, I won't.
  7. You can power the microtracker through the USB port, as I understand. Many companies make a 4xAA battery pack that plugs into the USB jack. CF is more expensive, but I would bet it's much more reliable for rewrites and I KNOW it's much quicker for erasing than Hi-MD. 6 GB @ 24/96, Hi-MD cannot compare here for high fidelity recording. If only Sony would make this unit 2GB, I'd use it as my "everyday" 44.1/16-bit unit (3+ hrs PCM per disc) and then pick up a microtracker if I needed/wanted higher fidelity. As it stands, I will have to think long and hard before I pick this unit up to replace my NHF-800, which has AA built-in (which I like a lot). Hmm....
  8. I have an NHF-800 that I use for live taping, from the analog line-in jack. I had a USB 1 cable and was experiencing super-slow transfers (obviously), but I'm starting to think that maybe that wasn't the problem. I have a USB 2.0 cable now and while transfers TO the unit are speedy, transfers FROM the unit are still incredibly slow (same speed as the old cable). If anything, I would think it would be the other way around! Also, it takes FOREVER for Sonic Stage to recognize that my unit is connected. I'm in Win XP pro, I get the chime that the computer recognizes it's connected, says PC>MD on the MD screen, but nothing in Sonic Stage. Then, approx 15 minutes later, it's up there. Also, is there a way to transfer stuff from Hi-MD to computer without deleting it off the Hi-MD disk? I've been transferring it, converting to .wav, and transferring the file back, since I want to keep my masters intact. Seems like wasted effort though. Any help appreciated. Thank you. Chris
  9. If you're going to spend $250, I'd recommend something with Audio Technica caps from www.soundprofessionals.com . I thought when you said "expensive mics" you'd be talking about Schoeps, hahaha
  10. MD has far better analog input quality, so unless you have a digital pre-amp, this is very important. JB3 has much more recording capacity (20GB or 40GB vs. 1GB per disc for MD). JB3 does "sorta" have a mic in with the newer firmware...it's just a setting to allow you to add more gain. Sounds terrible. JB3 is easier to transfer, as it has a firewire connection and everything is in .wav or .mp3 format.
  11. Thought you guys might be interested in this. Taped with NHF-800 and Sonic Studios microphones. Torrent and more information available here: http://www.easytree.org/torrents-details.php?id=33433
