That's the only reason why I would consider buying a 2nd gen Hi-MD unit, because an important part of the music I have is already encoded in mp3. Re-coding mp3->atract3plus must be done (IMHO) at maximun possible bitrate otherwise loss is important.

Hi. I have a NH700 and the reason beacause I would like MP3-playing is that when I get some music in mp3, let's say at 160kbps the loss is quite important (compressed-twice) unless you use Hi-SP. My feeling is that you're 'wasting' some space in order not to loose quality (or am I wrong?). If you've got all your audio CDs then ATRAC3Plus is wonderful.

Hi! I am quite new to this technology and have a question. I have a CD player with optical output and a NH700 Hi-MD unit. I wanted to know your opinion wether it would make any noticeable difference of quality using optical input instead of the PC and software included or not. Thanks!
