  1. I realize this topic has not been replied to for a while but i have questions hoping that someone will reply . There is talk in this thread about recording and sensitivity levels on your MD unit but i was wondering what the preference would be as to a high or low sensitivity mic. I recently bought a SP PSM 5 from Sound Pros(which is, coincidentally, the same as the PSM 6 w/o the altoids box, and yes go ahead and make fun, i thought it was a good idea at the time) but i bought a high sensitivity model bc i figured i could just turn the mic sens to low on the unit if i am recording louder music and it would be ok. Unfortunately i have not had time to play with the mic and settings and i have to send it back bc there is a very audible buzz in the left mic. However, i was wondering if this was a good idea or not in everyone's opinion. Thanx everyone ahead of time. ps. IMO you might be able to get away w/ rec the second act of an opera w/ PCM bc usu(not always) it is 2 hours, a break and then another hour but i would not do so for the first act, but you probably already realize that .

    Ex71s Hurt

Thanks very much everyone:). I did test them w/o the music and it did not hurt(bummer) so i am in the process of burning them in, hoping that that will fix the problem becuase i would rather not waste the money but i dunno... I also think that foamies would be better b/c i have used earplugs like that and don't have any problem. If this doesn't work i look into those two pairs so thanks again:).

    Ex71s Hurt

just recieved Sony Ex71s and i have to admit that i love them. I kinda like the bass heaviness of them and clarity is much better than what i had. I also enjoy the case that they come with and the extra cord windup thingy, but, let's cut to the chase....They hurt my ears. I have tried them for a few days and find that shortly after i try to use them my ears and my head hurts. I believe that it might have been that i had the volume up too loud(i have a NH900 and the volume was at 15 at the time) because my gf tried them and thought they were too loud and hurt her ears. Unfortunately, I tried them again just now with the volume at 3-5 and they still hurt. I am listening to mostly classical music. i don't think that it is that i have sensitive ears b/c i usu listen to my music loud whether it's Stravinsky or Deftones and i am a percussionist and am used to loud noisy stuff:). I think that I am getting a cold and am also wondering if that would affect ny ears and such ??? I have one more "test" to do which is to try them for a time w/o music to see if it's just that they are hurting my ears and not the music but i would appreciate any feed back anyone could give on any aspect of what i mentioned in the meantime. I say this because i just read in the newly pinned phones FAQ that one pair hurt aeriyn's ears but stopped after a while( that thread was awesome btw). Thank you everyone in advance, I know you will be helpfull, as always.(sorry it's so long but this is driving me NUTS!)
  4. An MD a compiled w/: Scherhazade-Rimsky-Korsekov Bolero,Alborada del Graciosa,La Valse Daphnis et Chloe-Ravel Fantasy on Japanese Wood Prints(marimba and piano reduction)-Hovhaness Hary Janos Suite-Kodaly I use my HMD for mostly classical, as you can see:)
  5. I would have to agree w/ A440 in that you probably won't need a powered mic for that situation but i would say that if you are planning to or decide to do some recording of something louder(you might as well, you have the recorder, right?) then it would be nice to already have it. I just prefer these models because you don't have to lug around a battery module also, but that's just me. I have played for some suzuki concerts so i know that they have percussion occasionally and big(ger) ensambles which i don't know consititutes a "loud" situation but i just thought you should keep that in mind. Maybe A440 can help on that one. Also, you don't have to use the battery if you don't want to.
  6. Hi zero, i think that this is a great idea but, unfortunately, i don't know too much about such things as to be of any help, sorry:(. I also do not have any problems w/ SS or SB except for one: After i installed both i only used SS for a while and then thought it would be a lot easier going right from my CD>MD but when i tried to open SB it would not open, no matter what shortcut or method I tried. I finally had to uninstall all of it and reinstall it. It has worked fine ever since. Don't know if this helps or why it happened, it's just my experience.
  7. Thanx NTN yeah i wasn't sure if, because the battery is 1750mAh, the unit would charge it for the same amount of time as a normal battery(therefore not be fully charged) or charge for longer, which is what it sounds like it does. Also, it's nice to hear you're pleased with it, being that it's coming all the way from China and all .
  8. Hello, i play classical percussion and frequently record myself with my NH900 as well as some classical concerts. I just recieved a SP-PSM-5( click here to view) but i have not yet recorded with it. Earlier recordings i have made have been with the ecm 907( which i believe also only goes down to 80Hz) so i am anxious to compare the two and i will let you know how it goes when i get to. I thought that the compactness of this model, as well as the having the battery already included worked the best for me for "stealth" situations. The same mic can be found here: SP-PSM-6 but w/o the altoids box which, i have to say, i enjoyed although the cord does not seem to be very long so you might want to opt for the other model b/c you can pick the cord length, i believe.
  9. i didn't think so but the manual for the car remote said "do not use with other units" so i just wanted to make sure, thanks.
  10. i would love a 5G disk!!! i mainly use my MD for PCM recording and 1 1/2 hours is not enough. esp if i'm recording a four hour jazz gig or even most classical concerts.
  11. while we're on the subject, i was wondering if it's ok to use a car remote that i recieved w/ my CD player(DNE306) with my NH900. It works well but i wanted to make sure it wouldn't screw anything up in the long run. Along the same lines, my NH900 remote works with my CD player but doesn't show info on the screen. Let me know if anyone has had problems or would think this would create a problem, thanks.
  12. worst impulse buy: Sony ECM 907 my buddy had it and i thought it would do but while researching after i bought it(doh!) i realized this was not the case. oh well, my Sound Pro PSM-5 is on the way! Woohoo!
  13. ok, so i bought it(couldn't resist) and i read your thread kurisu(thanks to u and Ishiyoshi btw) but i'm still not sure whether the MD will charge it to full. You said in your thread that it might get hot while charging and if gets too hot obviously i will have to look for a charger but would rather not if i don't have to. You also stated that you need to check the charging time to make sure it charged: How do you know what the charging time is and/or if it is fully charged or not?
  14. i purchased the q55s recently and i love the sound for the money...of course, that's if i'm not moving and the ambient noise is nil. I have been largely listening to classical music and jazz and would like i pair of hps that sound as good but have much better isolation. Based on suggestions on the forum, I was looking at the Sony mdr-ex71s and thought that might be a good choice but if anyone would have a suggestion as to something else in about that price range i would really appreciate it
