  1. I think there is a problem with MSI (Microsoft Windows Installer) Try this (found on the Web) : "This is an InstallShield error which can be caused by mismatched versions of InstallShield. The PC has one version installed and the product you are installing is using another version. - Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield - Take the contents of the folder and move them into a temporary folder - The InstallShield folder itself should NOT be moved - Now run the product install again - After the product is installed, you may move those folders back" or try to reinstall MSI package.
  2. Have you add your device with "Tools /Add a new device" menu ? If your device is still not detected after that, maybe it is not supported by Real Player.
  3. DEP protection works all the time ,not only when installing software, so the problem could be in a service or a dll. SP2 can be desinstalled , and you can download it from Microsoft Download Center if you have not it on yours Windows CDs. try "Add /Remove Programs" first, if it doesn't work, see Microsoft support center for others ways to do that. But since your PC came with SP2 pre-installed, I can't guarantee the results, or tell it is safe ( I made that on a PC upgraded from SP1).
  4. it is safe to disable DEP (though you will not longer get DEP protection); you can try it and restore your boot.ini file after. What are exactly the errors ? I had problems when upgrading to SP2 (I had to re-register MDAC and JET, but only SS was crashing, not the entire system).
  5. With Simple Burner : make a virtual CD containing your files ( delete the image file after transfering on your device if you want to free disk space).
  6. To check if DEP is completly disabled, go to "Configuration Panel/ System/Advanced/ Performances/Data Execution Prevention " : the two settings must be unavailable Older Intel processors may have not hardware DEP, but Windows may use software DEP. You may have to change boot.ini access rights to be able to modify it.
  7. Try to carefully check Windows events watcher (and possibly Dr Watson logs) , and describe your error message. [EDIT] I have seen on your screenshot that "Write debugging information" is checked, take a look at that too ( I think informations are written in "%SystemRoot%/Minidump") For a complete memory dump, select "Complete Dump" (but the process take much more time). To know what your "SystemRoot" environnement variable is : open a DOS window ("Start/Execute/cmd") then type "set SystemRoot" , or do "Start/Execute/ and type %SystemRoot%" to open file explorer on this directory (generally , it points to "C:\Windows") .
  8. Yes, I'm French What you have changed is the behavior in case of system failure, not in case of service failure. You will find the services in "Démarrer/Panneau de configuration/Outils d'administration/Services" (select a service then look at the "Récupération" tab). btw, the infamous Sasser worm made the RPC service fail , default failure behavior for this service is to reboot the computer.
  9. This error occurs when a program tries to access memory out of allowed bounds , or when physical memory has a failure (either broken or misconfigured). The first case is more likely , it could be a virus : run a good anti-virus software. For the second case : run a memory test (you will find several free programs on the web) Check also logs in Windows "Events watcher" (or something like that). in French : "Démarrer/ Panneau de Configuration / Outils d'administration/ Observateur d'événements " Can you tell which service you have prevented to reboot the computer, and the complete description of error message ?
  10. Maybe some service has a problem , and is set to reboot the computer in this case; some services , like "Plug And Play", reboot always the computer after a failure. (see Windows services configuration panel)
  11. I have Cyberlink Power DVD / Virtual CD / Nero Image Drive installed on my PC (Windows XP Pro /SP2) : SS 3.0 / SS 3.1 / SB 2.0 have no problem with them. What I can suggest you is to re-register MDAC / JET (search the forum for the links) and reinstall / repair .NET (see Microsoft Support Center).
  12. Downloading music with SS 3.0 (US version) from Connect Center Europe works too, though the verification process complains about it can't find the SonicStage version (the provided link attemps to download SS 2.3).
  13. Thanks you very much indeego and JoRuediger ! installing this add-on has finally solved my problem : importing CDs in Sonicstage 3.0 did not work , and the "CD Importing Format" was completly blank; burning with SB 2.0 did not work too. Maybe my old add-on was not properly installed, though I have tried many times. btw, I had the update database problem in SS 3.0 too, solved by re-registering MDAC and JET. With this add-on , all is working fine now in SS 3.0 and SB 2.0 (desktop : Windows XP Pro /SP2, laptop: Sony VGN-A115B Windows XP Home / SP1) Thanks again.
  14. I have posted the following on another thread, I think this one is more appropriate try to re-register mdac and jet with the MDAC repair tool found here : http://www.macropool.com/en/download/mdac.html For reinstalling MDAC 2.81 on SP2 , see also : http://www.macropool.com/en/download/mdac_xp_sp2.html
  15. I use Windows XP SP2 (upgraded from SP1a) on an Intel P4 3,2 G processor (with HT enabled) I have completly disabled DEP in boot.ini (/noexecute=AlwaysOff) I have installed and run SS /SB under an administrator privileges account. I have tried with stopping my anti-virus software, and I don't use SP2 security stuff at all. I don't think the problem is audio codecs related (I have no codecs packs) , since I can import and transfer individual wav or mp3 files. Searching on the web, it seems that the errors found in SS are related to security policy (unknown security policy).
