  1. Hi all, Let me start by stating that this site is invaluable in my learning about my MZ-RH10 features (that I bought a year ago)... It is basically one stop shopping for info on it! I learned of the latest Sonic Stage and now can imagine you guys drooling over the newest Hi-Md to be released!!! Just spectacular work. Anyway, forgive me if this is basic knowledge, but I could not find it in a search or in the MZ-RH10's manual: Can one turn off automatic track markings (when the machine decides it is "silent")? It is handy during gigs, but I use the recorder mainly for our rehearsals, and the music is quite silent in parts, and just when things are getting nice and moody, the MZ-RH10 decides it's time for a new track. Also, it would be nice for a firmware upgrade to eliminate having to put the thing in manual level recordings for heaven's sake... As well as those missing letters on the titling. But I could not live as comfily as I do without my shiny, scratched MZ-RH10. Thanks.
  2. Sorry.. Didn't know the issue was known as "tilting," I did look it up before I asked. Hmm...
  3. I got my MZ-RH10 last week and it works great. However, I have noticed that the title, track, group alphabet inputs are missing K,L,M and X,Y,Z in both capital and lowercase letters. When you press the cursor button to the left or right, it "feels" them, but they are not visible (you click 3 times from J thru N).. I am not sure if all the international letters below them are included, but would be happy with merely all of the Anglo Saxon ones.
  4. WOW! Fast and lengthy reply! Sorry, I meant this one by Reactive. And by using it I thought that one of the mics could take care of the ambient (while talking) and the other could be for my voice... so no "backless" sound... Their demo sounds quite ok! At one time I borrowed a friend's 1st gen MD and tried recording (speech and ambient train sounds from inside a train) with a Shure SM58 and had a hard time getting good levels.... Now that I am getting the new model, I want to get the right mic for it. Thanks a load!
  5. Well, if the gig isn't too formal , you could always wear a mesh baseball cap (turned backwards with the mesh in front during the gig) and put your mic up there pointed in the "forward position" let the wire go down your back (GW Bush style) to your new recorder. That model mic is pretty small, so it might look okay, if the hat is nice and roomy up top. Good luck.
  6. Hi Minidiscers! This is my first post here, and have been drawing much useful information from it. One of the first pieces of info I have gleaned from here is all the hype about the new MZ-RH10 coming out. I have never owned a MiniDisc, but feel that this model will be the one that pushes me to do it. I am a musician/podcaster/talker and will be using my new MD accordingly... I will probably be recording most gigs via a mixing console... so that is not relevant to this question. What I would like to know is what is a good all-round (stereo) mic for MD "field recording" (i.e.: soundscapes, sound effects like city streets, nature etc) of natural sounds and then also good to use as a vocal mic for talking/ audio journal for my podcasts? Also, as I have been looking thru the HUGE PILE of stereo mics out there, some manufacturers recommend battery powered mics for MDs that don't have "mic power" fed to the microphones... Do I need to have a powered mic for the MZ-RH10 ? I have been interested in the stereo lavalier mics featured on these pages: Reactive Sounds. Argh. So much information! I have perused these pages for hours now, but cannot find a good FAQ on mics for the newer models.. apologies if I have missed them somehow. Thanks! SI
