The Sharp has a real nice, warm sound. Smooth base (set to Bass 2) and spacious highs/treble. Still using the 3-pole Koss KS-35's and no problem yet.
-
Well, I did it. The Sharp IM-DR80 came in the mail today and after I charged it I plugged in my 3-pole phones and guess what?... it sounds fantastic! The unit isn't getting hot or malfunctioning in any way. So I guess using the 3-pole phones is pretty harmless... at least for now. I'll continue to use it a lot throughout this week and I'll let you all know if anything changes. Not surprising, the 3-pole Koss KS-35's that I'm using sound better than the 4-pole phones that can with the unit. All in all its a pretty slick little machine.
-
So, what it sounds like to me is that I can use 3-pole phones without damaging the unit. All that will happen is I will be sacrificing sound quality. Is that a safe assessment?
-
Uh-Oh... conflicting reports. Does anyone know for sure? I read the manual for the DR80 and it doesn't say that you can't use the 3-pole phones with it... but then again it doesn't say you can either. Sinus, how long have you had/have you been using your DS70 with the 3-pole phones?
-
Thanks for the info. Guess I'll be sending it back unopened. Too bad. Looks like a great unit.

Hey All, I just ordered a Sharp IM-DR80 from Minidisc Access. It state that it has a 4-pole headphone connector. Do I have to use the 4-pole connector only or will the usual 3-pole also work... I'm hoping yes since 4-pole arephones are pretty hard to come by. By the way, Minidisc Access is a great company to do biz with. Thanks. Carlie

What the heck?... I I've been using SonicStage for years and have NEVER had a problem converting and transferring files to MD. Today when I try transfer some MP3's to MD via SonicStage I get the following message: "Error Report Transfers not allowed" What gives? It doesn't even convert the files but goes right to the error report. I've uninstalled and reinstalled SS and rebooted numerous times. Anyone care to take a stab at solving this one? Many thanks.

I would love to bring this forum back to life. Does anybody else have any new sites that stream or where you can (legally) download music. Here's another trance site... www.crystalclouds.com Free registration allows you hundreds of legal DJ downloads.

I'm game... let's do it! I lost count at 22 units!

I just picked up a pair of Klipsch Image earbuds... http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/image.aspx I have never heard such amazing sound from any phones I've ever used. They're incredible!

Hey All, Well, it finally happened... RealPlayer made me update from v8 to v11. v8 just wouldn't open anymore without the prompt to upgrade. So I did upgrade. Now, streams play back with a click or pop sound. I never had this problem with v8. Honestly, it reminds me of the sound you get when playing a vinyl LP... pop, pop, pop, click, click, pop. Quite simply stated, how do I stop this? Thanks.

A440... Thanks for the thorough reply. Some of the streams that I record are actually from friends of mine in the "biz" and because the sets are sometimes 3 to 5 hours plus I like to record them for later playback and give them my full attention. No resale or distribution... just me listening and in most cases erasing the sets once they have been heard and I’ve given my feedback. I also record interviews in my research for work. Again, to listen in its entirety when I have the time to do so. Another thing, recording onto MD and listening while laying in bed or even out doors in the park is far more enjoyable, not to mention more comfortable than sitting at my PC at my desk and listening on my tiny speakers. So, time shifting it is. By the way guys, I had no problem getting to the "Total Recorder" website. Maybe should try, you think? Thanks again A440!

What particular question of mine is your answer of "yes" referring to? What particular question of mine is your answer of "yes" referring to?

Can Audacity, or any of the other programs be used to "record" streams onto a pc's hard drive while it is being played? This would be so that they can be burned onto a CD and listened to at another time... for those of us that are not at the computer long enough to listen to an entire stream and would like an alternative. Also, would this be considered "illegal copying"? I wouldn't want to do that.

I have 3 RH1's... 1 silver and 2 black. C
-
That’s what it says on the Sound Professionals Website. I called Minidisco the other day and the guy I spoke with said that Sony has stopped production of the RH1 and they will not be getting more in stock. Without any announcement of new HI-MD models coming out from Sony this truly looks like the end. I’m very happy I bought my 2 RH1’s when I had the chance!
-
Actually, I have 4 of these that I purchased from Minidisc Access and I absolutely LOVE them. I personally don't consider $33 high at all for such a great product, they're quite solid and I have to tell you that I think Minidisc Access has some of the best customer service that I have ever experienced. These seem to be very hard to come by so MD Access was perfect for my needs. I'm going to throw away all of my Case Logic soft cases now that I have these. The case logics took up way too much space. The drawers take up hardly any space. For long-term storage I'd go with the one-touch drawers. Just my 2 cents.
-
Please disregard... I figured it out. The RH1 sounds amazing!
-
Now, is this MZ-RH1 the same model as the US models being sold say from Minidisco or Minidisc Access or is an AC adapter required to use it in the US? If it's the same US model I'm gonna git me one!
-
I may be wrong so please forgive but didn't I read somewhere that you can use an external battery/power source that plugs into the usb of the RH1?

Is Sony Missing a Beat By Not Offering Hi-MD Options?
carlie7 replied to Christopher's topic in News
I would most definaetly buy a home deck. Actually the reason I haven't gotten into HI-MD yet is because there is no deck. I love me portables... and I have many but, I absolutely love to put a disc into a deck attached to my system. It's the only way to go. So yes, if Sony manufactures a deck I will not only buy it but the RH1 as well. As for a car deck most likely not. I simply don't drive much. Perhaps if I did I would consider a deck. -
Defying Expectations, Third Generation Hi-MD Unit Surfaces?
carlie7 replied to Christopher's topic in News
I think this new unit is gorgeous and I'm done speculating about the demise of MD. It seems for the last several years or so that the subject continues to rear it's head and yet Sony continues to manufacture MD and honestly, it just seems to keep getting better. I think, with an end to DAT HI-MD has a better chance than ever of survival. With this particular model I would like it to be able to record optical/line in in legacy formats SP, LP2 & LP4. Although that is highly doubtful based on 2nd gen units limitation to record live in legacy it is my wish that I will be able to at the very least playback my old legacy discs on this unit. Anyone care to speculate on this? -
Honestly, the only way I think 3rd gen HI-MD will truly succeed in the current market is if it is a combination HI-MD/cell phone unit with satellite radio, internal memory, at least a 3meg camera and 4 gig discs. Let's not forget it must be indestructable, work with a Mac and have a battery life of 100 hrs., give or take. That should make it a contender.

Sonicstage 3.4 Debuts With Stunning New Functionality
carlie7 replied to Christopher's topic in News
Actually, I'm quite happy with the changes to SS but you are not forgiven by me for the rootkit issue since, thanks to you Sony I still have it on my system as well as a Trojan that neither Windows Update nor McAfee is able to remove. -
Sonicstage 3.4 Debuts With Stunning New Functionality
carlie7 replied to Christopher's topic in News
I believe this was mentioned earlier in the thread but... I think this is amazing news for the future of MD/HI-MD. If sony had any intention of letting this technology die or just plain disappear I can't imagine for a minute that that would be developing such amazing changes to SS. Let's face it; if 2nd gen HI-MD were the last Sony intended to produce I'm sure they would cease with the R&D of SS as well. Revenue-wise it just wouldn't make for good business. With this more "user-friendly" version of SS there must be a hardward follow-up in the form of 3rd gen HI-MD. It just would not make sense to go through all the trouble of creating and releasing SS 3.4 and then discontinue manufacturing MD/HI-MD altogether. Agreed? Sony, bring on 3rg gen! I can hardly wait! Thanks for listening to your loyal consumer base. Keep up the good work!
