  1. First of all, both the NH1 and RH1 are great Hi-MD units. They both have the date-time stamp, ability to record SP & Hi-MD modes and use the same battery, LIP-4WM. As I've already mentioned, the NH1 can play all tracks in shuffle mode only once, even if you press stop in between. With the RH1 this only works with the repeat mode on (this according to the operating instructions of the European models, I don't know about the US model). They both have the Bookmark function, but only the NH1 has the extra Program Play function. If you mainly listen to tracks in normal mode, this pro of the NH1 is not that important. I prefer the RH1 as it uses a normal mini-USB cable and not the proprietary cable of the NH1, where I've alredy experienced some problems while unplugging it. Of course the new ability to upload old MDs with the RH1 is a big pro.
  2. A pro for the NH1: I own both units, the RH-1 since today! (30. June 2006) and I've found out that the NH1 plays all songs only once in shuffle mode (even if you press stop, it memorizes the songs already played). The RH1 can only play songs in shuffle mode with repeat function on and it also doesn't have program play mode, like the NH1. However, the ability to upload old MDs to PC makes the RH1 worth buying!
  3. I own the NH1 and it's an excellent unit, very small and light, very good sound quality and it almost has the same features as the RH1 (i.e. date time stamp, mic in, and recording mode in legacy SP, LP and the Hi-MD modes). The advancement of the RH1 is that is almost completely free of DRM restrictions, you can therefore upload your old MDs to PC. But if that's not so important for you, I would go with the NH1.
  4. I also have a RH1 and I can confirm that it plays the tracks in shuffle mode repeatedly. The only recorder that plays tracks in shuffle mode only once is the NH1. Cheers minidisc_fan
  5. I think the NH1 is very beautifully designed and it's currently the slimmest and lightest Hi-MD recorder around. A beautiful non Hi-MD unit is also the R900 in my opinion, with it's 4 available colours, nicely arranged buttons and the handy jog levers.
  6. Yes, it uses the LIP 4WM. Everything you need is supplied when you buy it, the NH1, headphones, the charging stand, the three line remote, USB cable, digital cable, carrying pouch, an adaptor, manuals, one blank GB disc, including one LIP 4WM battery. Depending on how much you will use the recorder, the battery will last approximately 3 years until the battery life becomes half of which it normally was. The NH1 comes with a charging stand, which does not have an USB port (a USB cable is supplied separately) and the recorder can only be charged using the battery charging stand, that is the NH1 doesn't have a DC plug on the device, like other models, so you need to take the charging stand with you when you travel. The USB port of the NH1 is also the port through which it charges when placed in the battery charging stand. I personally think, they could have made more out of the battery charging stand. However, I think the NH1 is the best Hi-MD recorder available. Check out this thread: Pictures of the NH1 it has some great pictures of the NH1.
  7. The NH1 uses a replacable lithium rechargeable battery Sony LIP 4WM. A replacement for 49 dollars can be ordered at Audiocubes here: Sony LIP 4WM. It's not an internal battery like in iPODs but one which can be easily removed and replaced when necessary.
  8. Very nice! I also own the MZ-R900 in red, except the docking station, mine came with the PC link. I have it since October 2001 and it still works fine.
  9. Check out these threads: MZ-NH1 against MZ-RH10 and RH10 vs NH1 to find out the differences between the MZ-NH1 and MZ-RH10. I personally prefer the NH1 it's slimmer and it can record an play both the standard MD and new Hi-MD modes whereas the RH10 can only record the new Hi-MD mode with opt in. The NH1 also includes a date-time stamp and comes with the three line remote RM-MC40ELK. The prices for the NH1 will fall as it's replaced by the RH10. Cheaper Hi-MD units are the MZ-NH 600, just don't get the 600D it lacks the line in and a DC in but of course the MZ-NH900 and MZ-NH1 have a much better sound quality and have an aluminium and magnesium body instead of plastic. Great non Hi-MD units are for example the MZ-R900 with MDLP function, as well as the MZ-R909, which includes the group function. But I would suggest you get yourself a Hi-MD unit for much more music! You use the format function to make a standard 80 min disc a Hi-MD disc with twice the storage and formatting a 1 GB Hi-MD disc will erase all the data you already have on the disc.
