Importing my MP3s into SS3.3 corrupts the mp3s!
Ascariss replied to Bewarethefoxxx's topic in Software
Hmm, what size was your E107? Next, a highly recommend staying away from Atrac 64 or 48 no matter how desperate you are. Never go below atrac 132, that is the best compromise with the codec. Reason being once you start compressing the files at such low bitrates, the sound quality goes out of the window. Only use the low bitrates for voice data, not music. So the easiest way out of this would have been to determine what bitrate you were using, and not anything to do with your sound card, since that is rarely the case, since if that was the case, the mp3s in WMP would also sound bad. Bewarethefoxxx find the library that SS made, they are someplace, optomized files or something like that. remove them from the library in SS, and then via windows explorer find the optomized files and delete them for good. With 20 gigs at your hands, compression is no longer a worry. Install SS3.3 if it's not already, open it up, find the options for it, Change it so that the files are not converted to anything at all when transferred to the device. Or if you want to convert it to the lowest possible bitrate with the best quality, ie atrac3 @ 132, almost equal to 192 mp3. Then transfer the songs onto the A3000 and check for sound quality. If they still sound like crap, press the option button, then the up arrow twice and select detailed information and see what type of file is there. In the end, I would highly recommend getting rid of windows ME, since that is the worst garbage microsoft ever released, heck even 98 is better than ME for me. Shame you can't upgrade to XP, much more stable and user friendly. -

That's because the units do not support WMA yet, SS converted them to atrac before transfer. -

Not sure the new units support WMA yet, will soon though. Why use SS, when CP works fine and allows you to take advantage of all the players functions. -

Small update on my end, downloaded version 1.12, and hooked up the A3000. Note, i don't have SS nor the mp3 manager installed. all files now are appearing as mp3 in the window below which is a good sign indeed, but downloading files still doesn't work, empty folders sadly. Looking forward to newer versions in the future. btw, how hard would it be to create a program that just uploads the mp3s to the player and ads OMG encryption to the files? -
Welcome to the forums. I wouldn't recommend keeping it hooked up to the PC, with just the USB, even though it does recharge the player, according to Sony, but it takes a full 7 hours. Use the AC adapter, 3 hours and its full charged, depending on the amount left in the battery. The library is actually stored in the documents and settings part of windows. First when you open windows explorer, make all hidden files visible. Go to drive C (assuming windows is installed there), >>>>documents and settings >>>>All Users >>>>Application Data >>>>Sony Corporation >>>>Library once you go into teh library, you will see some folders, delete all of these in there once you have uninstalled CP. Remember to reboot then. When you open CP and connect the A1000, the small A1000 doesn't appear? Try clicking on the transfer button that is in the top right hand corner, it looks like a small gameboy. Once the window is open, it should start reading the info from the A1000 library and checking it versus the library on the PC. If it is doing that, then that means you can transfer music, it shouldn't take long, depending on the amount of files you have, takes about 5 minutes on my pc with around 550 files on both the A1000 and A3000.

Great, only sony can come up with something like this. I really don't need the artist link, as long as history and fav shuffle work, I am happy. Thanks for looking into it though, Much appreciated. This will def go into the FAQ.

interesting, i've ripped a few of my cds, so I will give it a try tonight.

NW-A1000 and NW-A3000: Initial Impressions
Ascariss replied to Ascariss's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
If you edit the id tags in the connect player, it will add the info to the id tags of course, like artist, year and etc. -
Hmm, I won't doubt you though, but 200 bucks for a A1000 or A3000 is quite cheap and I would say be careful who you deal with on ebay, if that is where you are getting it from. If you get it for that price, congrats, but if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
-
Going from the bean to the A3000 is huge step up in size, do check the A1000 out as well, perhaps 6 gig is enough.
-
Can't you buy the unit in the UK? unless it is cheaper when buying it from japan.

NW-A1000 and NW-A3000: Initial Impressions
Ascariss replied to Ascariss's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
Only thing that it changes in the files is the ID tags, activating IDtag version 1 as well with version 2, which is annoying. Next, whoever told you what you wrote doesn't have the player. Since last I checked, all my mp3s which were imported are still in their respectful folders and areas, the files are still mp3s, none get renamed, not sure how you would do that via CP. sizes are still the same. They are saved as OMG on the player when transferred, but it is still a MP3 files, since the OMG is just copyright that is wrapped around the mp3 file to prevent it being transferred back to another pc. -
It's not all bad, importing files now is easy and stable for me, and tranfers are fine. Plus all the feature (except artist link) are working on my player. Wouldn't be so if I used SS.

Welcome eu9ene, the reason I was getting such low battery life was due to the fact that it was still new. I did a battery test almost 2 weeks ago on the A1000 and you can find the info here: http://www.atraclife.com/index.php?showtopic=511&st=20 I haven't done any testing on the A3000 per se, but from regular use at home, it has outlasted the A1000 initially. But I did just get it last week tuesday, so I haven't had much time to test the battery on it fully. I only use high bitrate mp3s, since I don't want to change my entire library to atrac.
-
That's what i meant, SS keeps checking for the new files o whatever. It's a bit different on CP since I am used to that. Perhaps there is somedthing in the options in SS that you can turn off? For example, making SS not sync right away with the HD3 or something along those lines? you're going to have to excuse my ignorance with SS, since I only used it for my MD and no any HDD based players.
-
Not format one, since that erases all the data, there is a reset button on the A series, I would assume there is one on the HD3 as well, It restores the factory presets without deleting the data on the player. Interesting problem. So if there are no files on it, SS tries ot export the tracks. Uhm does this just go on and on? if you left it say for 10 minutes same problem?
-
Indeed, I have yet to figure out myself how to do this, and yes it is a problem. the strange thing is when you get the product, the hold switch is turned on from factory, so perhaps there is a method. So perhaps this is one method to get the hold switch to work: when you are done listening, pause the player, and press the hold button until it says hold, then let the player turn off, and then see what happens when you press a button, since my assumption the hold screen will come on and then the player will turn off.
-
Would the reset button on the HD3 do anything perhaps?
-
Hahaha, I thought he said meant instructions manual. Hmm, any idea how much they cost?
-
That's why he said *cough in his post.
-
Isn't the manual available for download via the european sony site? just like the A1000 and so on.
-
He is pointing out, my assumption, that one it is a flash player and 2, there is no hard drive in it, so why would it need G protection.
-
When you start the player, go to the main menu and select the intelligent shuffle area, top right hand corner, then select shuffle all. I also have shuffle turned on in my play mode.
