  1. The specs in the manual are the same ones stuge posted. I would recommend heading down to the store with your MSI and a pair of headphones, and then testing both out side by side at the store. the player has 2 songs on it, so you can compare sound quality.
  2. Actually that is the point, the in ear canal phones provide some sound isolation from outside noise, allowing you to listen to music at a lower volume than with just in ear phones. Since they also provide the minor sound isolation, sometimes rather great, like the shure phones, which are expensive though, they provide a better overall sound quality than in ear phones. In addition for me, they fall out less and less than regular ear phones, are more comfortable and lighter in weight.
  3. Numbers are fine to go buy, but this is always on paper, you really can't make a 100% judgement with numbers, best to listen to them both. Is the A1000 available for sale where you are now?
  4. Well I listen mostly if not all house, trance and some hip hop, so the EX71s serve me very nicely. I have other phones, such as the E808s which actually are not that bad, fit better than the E931s from the A1000 and A3000, and are more comfortable. Sadly we don't get philips 'phones in canada so I can't comment on those, but have you looked at these panasonic ones? http://www.audiocubes.com/category/Headpho...t_Ear_pads.html There also some pioneer ones as well: http://www.audiocubes.com/category/Headpho...?sort=3a&page=2
  5. is there a reason why you need the exact value?
  6. If you want to know the sound quality of either unit, it is fine and above average, much better than my MZ-N10 I have. There is no distortion at high volume and using EX71's the sound is perfect. I've listened to many other mp3 players on the market, and this by far is the best of them all.

    D-NF400

Doesn't the D-NF400 has an equalizer? Perhaps try adjusting that to increase the volume. As well the player has something called "automatic volume distortion control" which I doubt is AVLS, but do check your manual for that, perhaps it might be causing the lower volume. Perhaps check the manual for more info on this.
  8. When you do go delete and uninstall the programs, it is always wise to remove the directories the programs created in windows, in the documents and settings area. And if possible delete any registry entries, but do back that it up before any deletions, just in case. SS3.3 should work fine on SP2 XP and shouldn't be giving you any problems.
  9. Even though the regular sony AC adapter is made in china as well, it looks solid. the stats on adapter are as follows: 5V input: AC100-240V ~ 50/60Hz 6Q ouput: DC5V 800mA Depends what you are charging actually, if you are planning on charging the smaller flash players, 500mA seems to be enough I would imagine, but do check the Hz frequency in england, since the one you picked up since to only offer 50, while the sony model does 50/60. Remember if something is too good to be true price wise it usually is.
  10. So far no news on release for the US, but if you can wait until CES 2006 in early january, perhaps sony US will announce something. Tiesto, battery performance should be rather good with the new players. I got 13 hours continuous playback on my A1000 @192kbps mp3, with some files ranging up to 320kbps as well. Remember sony claims up to 17 hours for mp3 @ 128, so 13 hours is a nice figure for 192.
  11. According to sony reps from australia, WMA support should be here soon. But back to the main point, the new A1000 will be available for sale on the sonystyle website in australia this coming monday, December 12th. All 4 colours will be offered, price is 379.00 including GST. Again not sure if that is with the gst included or you have the add it, since including GST means you would have to add the tax onto the price still. As well, no word on launch of the A3000 in australia, since sony Aus wanted to get the A series out before christmas. Sorry no info about lauch for the new playes in australia. As well, Sony China has also released the new players for sale in that country, all 3 actually, A600/A1000/A3000. I have no knowledge of prices though.
  12. You really can't compare prices in canada and the US now a days, since the exchange rate vs the US dollar has changed quite a bit, 64 cents vs 86 cents now. No doubt that the prices in the US will be cheaper, the market there is much larger than Canada, but then again we'll see. The A3000 won't be sold anytime soon at FS or BB, it almost seems as sony wants to keep its supply limited to their control so more people shop via the site or the sony store. Interesentingly, the Vaio Pocket 40 gig version is still on sale at amazon.com via online stores, price range 330 US or so. The HD5 starts from 280 US from a retailer, new. The HD3 ranges from 325 to 350 US. While at sonystyle.com the silver HD5 is 279.95 US, which at today's rate is 325 canadian. If you need 20 gigs, wait for A3000 at FS or BB, but it might never be sold there, and sony store rarely lowers the price of their products, except with the A3000, 30 dollar discount already compared to original price it went for. A1000 is available at BB or FS, so if you don't need the 20 gigs, I suggest getting that.
  13. Actually 349.99 canadian is competative with other players on the market, which look a bit boring and half a much shorter batter life, ie like the ipod, and iRiver models. Both the A3000 and A600 series are exclusive and highly unlikely other stores will get them. Best buy rep didn't even know that there was a 20 gig model arriving. Unlike the imported models, which have an extra colour black, the canadian models only come in violet and silver. But they do come with the english manual, which is no biggy but still helpful. So far only Sonystyle and the sony store carry the model. Don't hold your breath for FS and BB getting the larger flash player, since as you know flash is at a premium now a days.

    NW-A608 colors

Indeed, the frequency is only up to 90.1 I believe. 430 US for both is great deal, much cheaper than here in canada, although you would have to buy directly from japan somehow. Audiocubes doesn't carry the new A series yet at all. While on ebay, the winter packge for both units is a shocking 599 US plus 45 shipping, so at 644 US, each comes out to 322 US. Almost the price of the larger A3000 in canada. Of course no one else would have the silverish white model but you would have also a non english manual as well. Someone mentioned that with apple snatching up the bulk of the flash memory for their ipods, the high price of the new 2 gig models and limited availability most likely is connected to that problem. I am unaware from who sony buys their flash memory from. So for people in the US, there are 3 options: 1. wait until Sony US announces the new models, perhaps in the new year 2. order one from japan either via ebay or online retailer (ebay = 295 US with shipping) 3. order one from canada with the radio fully working on all freq (~255 US with shipping)
  15. Thought so, perhaps the Connect Player will also receive an upgrade before christmas just in time for the WMA support.
  16. The recommended LCD remote alhough nice, doesn't really suit the design of the player. I doubt all the options on the MC35 will work with the A3000 or the A1000 for that matter, and vice versa. I was originally planning on using a remote with my player since I wanted to keep it in my bag. But after looking at the A1000 and holding it in my hand, it would have been a shame to keep it hidden from view. I've become used to using it without a remote after having all my previous audio players, discman and minidisc) all with remotes. My older MC33 remote works with the player, but doesn't display track info very well. The title of the song isn't displayed sadly, and only the elapsed time is shown. volume works, as does skipping tracks back and forth. I can change the audio options via the remote, meaning the sound like custom 1 and 2, jazz and etc. The folder buttons can be used as well to skip forwards and backwards. Stop works as well and will stop the current track playing. One thing that is odd is that the remote will not always display anything even though the player is playing a song, and volume and volume can be adjusted without the remote lighting up or the player. Kind of good for saving battery power I guess. The LCD also doesn't light up sadly on mine, like it did with the MD. So I am disappointed with my old remoate and the unit but perhaps the 35 will have more functions and displays.
  17. Hmm no news of this on the Sony website, not sure if I should update my units now. Edit, I am guessing this is not the update referred to here: http://www.smarthouse.com.au/Entertainment...3/News/E9P4V6W3
  18. Beethovenian that is not what I meant, I meant creating folders on the new units themselves, the A1000 and the A3000. I've already ripped a few cds using connect and set up the folders and so on, but I wanted to transfer tracks onto the players into folders and not just all over the place.
  19. The difference is quite large, not a real surprise, but nonetheless, still nice to see some stats for preference. One thing that puzzles me is why sony left out folders from CP, I didn't use them on my MD, but now with almost 20 gigs at my disposal, folders would come in handy for albums and different genres. Until sony adds this, I don't think any of the older players and MD models will be supported. I would have thought sony learned a thing or two from SS, but not enough SS ease of use, stability and speed went into CP. Does sony even beta test software?
  20. I installed Mp3 manager 2.0, and it wasn't recognized at all, I will try first opening CP and then trying it via MP3 manager, but I doubt it will work.
  21. So far I haven't had my A1000 skip on me, even when running.
  22. Yes, Best buy bought futureshop sadly, pity too, since this leaves a and b sound as the only large canadian independent electronics store, unless you count london drugs. Although I think an american firm did buy out A&B sound or I may be mistaken. Oddly enough the FS near my house isn't that busy usually, so that is one reason why people there are eager to help, although not as much as the BB here. Doesn't matter, same snake body with 2 different heads.
  23. Interesting development on Sony's part here in canada. Why limit it to the sony store only? This will hurt sales in the long run, as not many people have a sony store near their house, seeing as futureshop is a lot more prevalent in Canada.
  24. I am getting an error: to run this application you must first install one of the following versions of .Net Framework v2.0.50727 I have .Net framework installed, but I am not sure what version it is, I downloaded it only 2 weeks ago.
  25. I don't think there will be anything along the lines of the HD-5 or HD-7, the new players are here to stay and the replacements for the HD-5. They are the walkman brand after all. Rumz, I can always get you a violet A608, will only charge the price with taxes and shipping, no profit taking here lol. There is oddly only one problem, when you go to install CP, there is no region for the US market, only Canada, Japan, Europe and Oceania. If a larger capacity player was going to be annonouced it might be at CES, or sony may not even venture above 20 gigs.
