personally I like the idea and am for it, would make it easier to discuss the other topics as well in one forum than 3.

I grabbed it last day, so far so good, much faster than anything else I've used.

I've already deleted countless of spam posts in the past week or 2, the only way to solve it would be to change it so the lounge needs a user login in order to post, since all the posts are being made by guests, changing permissions of who can post should stop the spammer. juli, hit up the sony insider, that's where everyone is at now.

yes the new ones are the same as before MTP, but will work with other OS.

FM tuner is a gimmick, I hardly even listen to the crappy radio stations here, now if they made it so you could get online radio stations via wifi at hotspots, then I would support that. It is clear the newest players are in no way, shape or form the top of the line from sony, so that would mean something else is due. We can only guess it is some kind of successor to the A series. Design of this new top of the liner would have to be one of the things that stands out, otherwise the dap will get lost in a crowd of others. Second, price, if sony decides to price this into ridiculous territory, people won't buy it like they do with the apples and their expensive pricing (note itouch). finally features, of course open and free platform and plenty of new codec support!!! the other brands do it, why doesn't sony? Are they afraid? Don't be a chicken sony, try new things. I just hope sony isn't waiting for apple to release its own new daps before showing of their new one.

Well Anthony I am on your side, I was hoping for more and got less than what I expected from sony. 32 gb is a must now, too many other competitors have 32 gigs, and with sdhc cards dropping in prices and creative easily taking those, well 16 gigs just doesn't cut it anymore. sure the wmv support is welcomed, but where is divx? the other brands support it, and I am now leaning towards the new cowon s9 as my next mp3 player, unless sony delivers something else? Second, no widescreen in the new players, just seems like a rehatch of the older A800s with new bodies and front, perhaps sony ordered too many 2 inch LCDs and now needs to move them all. As for the new players being the thinnest models from the walkman brand, who cares when the players look like cell phones if I wanted a sony ericsson walkman cell, I would have bought one long ago. I agree, the sense me is not something I need, I will choose the music I want to listen to, and not some gimmick. I have no need for noise cancelling unless I am flying and even so my in ear headphones are good enough to isolate sound. If there is another else coming, be it one more unit, or others, sony better step up their game, because they are no where near the front when it comes to innovation in the mp3/dap player field.

I couldn't care less for atrac, the codec for me was a waste of time and resources and caused nothing but trouble for sony. Gapless can be achieved with AAC as you mentione and with mp3 as well, probably is sony doesn't seem to care to implement either or both, I thought they were an innovater in the music field, guess I was wrong.

hehe nice, get the same thing on my site, car manufacturers always visiting and reading what people have to say. anywho, hopefully they are reading the forums as well and not just the blog, since although I read the blog, I'd rather comment here. I just do hope sony delivers some good mp3 players and has some good products that can challange the best out there.

http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/25/cowons-...ay-impresses-k/ 3.3 inch AMOLED display, 16 million colors across 480 x 272 pixels, almost 16:9, technically its 30:17 500MHz dual-core CPU Bluetooth FM radio TV out G-Sensor accelerometer (guess for games?) 40 hours of music playback from a single charge gallary http://www.engadget.com/photos/cowons-s9-c...lls-with-style/ hopefully it comes in flash and 16 and 32 formats, and lots of codec support. If sony does not deliver on their new mp3 players, the A818 is my last sony for a while. more images here and some additional info http://product.cowon.com/product/IFA/product_page_1.php

hmm if nothing is shown at IFA, what about CEDIA? http://www.cedia.net/
-
hmm are we missing people from the old forums? Juli?
-
I agree, gapless playback and lossless support, but I guess sony doesn't care for such things.
-
this is why i still think there is plenty of room of improvements in the sony daps. like better playlist support, say from winamp, or even making a playlist on the player and as you mention deleting files off it.
-
huh, interesting, seems to be the same size as the older 8xx series, 2 4 and 8 gig varieties. It seems to be an E series. It looks good, like that is has FM on it. Perhaps it is just for asia? or new zealand?
-
the cowon is too big for me, I want something smaller, and no touchscreen is needed. As for sony taking their time, sure they can but why have old products on the shelf? It would be a shame if sony decided not to update this year.
-
So it is that time of the year again, september is soon upon us and apple is destined to reveal new ipods, and dell is apparently getting into the DAP game as well. But we don't really need to discuss ipods and dells. So I ask if anyone knows, or has seen or heard anything from the rumour mills or on the grape vein. IFA is coming up in late august but I don't think sony will introduce any players there? My 818 is serving me more than enough, but its been almost a year since I got it, and there are competitors out there that alread have been units on sale. I am unsure of the sales success of the newest units, haven't heard anything so I am guessing average sales for a sony. I do hope sony adds more video codec support to their devices, such as wmv, and divx and others, touchscreen, not really, prefer buttons, although who knows what will sony choose. I do hope they look more walkman like (older 800 series) rather than sony ericsson like. Anywho, curious to hear other people's opinion.

Finally the board is alive! now to add a link on the main page for the forums as well

Some great shots there Stuge, thanks for sharing.
-
I should have been clearer, pata thanks for clarifying.
-
yes it will work on a mac, all new sony's now are drag and drop. you can use itunes to sync it.
-
perhaps sonyinsider was not allowed by sony? I don't know, but news from sony seems hard to get before they actually send it out to websites.
-
I have xp with sp2 no errors such as you point out. I think the cradle can be used as lineout. a MP3 player shouldn't be used as a media device for the entire house, it is meant to be a portable personal player not for everyone's pleasure, but you can plug it into any IN on a stereo and it will work just fine. I've personally had issues with the albumart with wmp11, it sometimes replaces others with the same one, not sure why, I don't bother with album art anwyways. I've used larger sizes and just dragged them into wmp, it transferred them regardless, not sure if it resized them.
-
i use mp3 at 320, or wav if I am too lazy to convert a song to mp3
-
on the audio codec front sony is fine, it's their video codecs that I would like to see expended, especially, to wmv and divx.
-
the player is stereo for sure, I can hear the dffferences in sound in the headphones in song with sounds that seperate into the 2 different channels or pan from L to R.
