  1. if i were you i would keep it for parts and just find one on the interwebs. they are on fleabay all the time. i bought the mz1 when they became available and have had quite a few units.. decks, CD/MD cmobos, the last gen 1gb discs.. but i keep coming back to the SCMS free MZ-1. ive got two of them. both play just as they did on launch day, unless you have the calibrating equipment required i would say its not worth the time to repair.
  2. Changer worked well when installed. I am in Atlanta GA 30303. $50.00 plus shipping. There is a disc I left inside so consider it a bonus . I have sold the MD unit it was connected to which is why its still there.
  3. ALL, looking for information on this car unit, Pioneer (Carrozzeria) FH-P520MD CD MD MP3 player. everything i see is basically in Japanese. has any one ever heard of this unit? pros? cons? cheers to all.... marc.
  4. all, thanks for the heads up. as stated earlier on this fourm, i am no newbie to MD.. being on board since 1992. i still use my MZ-1s as daily drivers due to their heft and heavy duty construction. i use the gold nh1 just for kicks, airplane rides, etc. i DO like to keep up with the latest MD player and will go for the RH1 since its the top of the line other then the m2 which i dont need an additional mic or headphones. as for diaplay, i have the 35ELK or 40 ELK.. whatever the model number is.. its the bigger remote display other then the 'tootsie roll' looking display, so im good on that end...
  5. correct me if im wrong, but since this is the rhi in sheeps clothing, and other than getting the mic and earbuds (i already have the 35elk remote), is there any other reason(s) to get the m200? the sony guy in the video mentioned some small features to the m2 (true overload marks, etc), are these not present on the rh1?
  6. again, thanks.. so the m200 just includes a mic and phones? haa.. ill look into the rh1... again thanks...
  7. TO keep the thread going, i just snapped some quick photos of the MD units i have left and a shot of one of the DCC decks i have. i also h ave the original sampler disk that came with the MZ-1. also, notice the 60 minute and 74 minute MDs.. anything different between them besides the design? ;-)
  8. thx for the link... and thanks for the intel on the RH1. i dont see much info on the M200... do you have a direct link to it?
  9. nice thread! i have 2 mz-1's and bought my first on in may 1992. I also have 3 phillips DCC 900 machines (anyone remember those??) the MZ-1 is a joy to have. i paid a little over $1,000.00 dollars (US) for it and the store only had one. the store owner was shocked that this young black guy (i was around 20 years old then) could afford and even knew about such a device! i bought another one shortly thereafter. i actually had 3 units but one of them, the transport stopped reading discs. also, it would take a 60 minute MD and act like it was a 74 minute MD. at the time, the 60 and early 74 minute MDs were the EXACT same disc, but the 60 minute MD was coded to only show enuff storage space for 60 minutes.i still have a couple 60 minute MDs that still work after alal thee years... anyway, i have had a few other MD drives over the years but i still use my mz-1 in the studio. i have MD headunits in both of my cars and i have the wx-5900 md japaaneese headunit http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_WX-5900MD.html . that thing is beautiful and matches my VW blue interior well. i still use the MZ'nh1 (gold). its tiny but i still love the MZ-1 MD will be around until I am dead... DCC is still living as long as i have media and machines... :-) nice thread.....
  10. jaylen, thanks for the reply. bascially im interested in the one thats the latest and has the majority of features. im old school MD user since 1992 and i still have 2 MZ-1's mint. Sony is cranking out so many MD units.. its hard to see the latest one. anyway, appreciate the reply.
  11. Gents, so what is the top of the line then? im only interested in the to of the line MD flagship model. i have the mz nh-1 (gold) and have had it since they were available on audiocubes, but i like to have the latest. i have nto been on this fourm in ages so im out of the loop. so which one is the top? MZ-RH1 ? MZ-M100 ? MZ-NH910 ? thanks for the info and apologies for intercepting this thread....
  12. All, I just purchased the above deck for the car and the manual is of course in Japan. i want to know if anyone here knows if this deck is compatible with the Mobile ES Sony XT-40V Tuner? My sony MD deck this unit replaced had the unilink and i was able to use the MODE button on the old unit to switch between DVD and CD changer. now i dont have that option on the new deck. it has a MODE button but will not switch between the two inputs. as for the display, it displays the CD/ radio text info. when i adjust volume, it would show up on the dispplay and then go off after about 2 seconds or so. now with the new unit it just stays there. Also in MD mode the time does not advance.. it changes the titles when a song changes but the time is not updated. im thinking the unit is not fully compatible but just wanted to see if anayone here had any additional info. there is NO discussion of this radio here so any info is appreciated. any websites with MORE info on the unit other than the japan sony site is appreciated. i can use bablefish to translate... thx...
  13. the MD format died years ago. it went the way of the DCC.DCC was supposed to replace the cassete, but due to high cost of the media and the units and lack of promotion, it fell on deaf ears. the same was tru about MD. it never caught on. then a few years ago right around the xplod debut, sony tried to revamp the MD for the newest money spending generation. it did catch on a little to the early adopters but it never really caught on. again, due to the late promotion and short scarce supply of the media and high cost. people just didnt get it. the DAT was also in the same boat. I have 3 DCC units... paid $900 USD for 2 back in 1993 and 99 dollars USD for one when phillips discontinued it and J and R music world were getting rid of them. i have 2 DAT recorders and enuff media to pass it on to my son.. the same for DCC and MD. my point: regardless if the manufacturer drops the ball on a piece of equipment, that doesnt mean the format is DEAD. as long as someone is still using it it wont die. how many people here by a show of hands usee DCC and have an ample supply of media? i have tons of media for it and head cleaners. the format is still going strong as i see it. anybody here have a old antique car. like a 57 chevy or thereabout??? the manufacturer of said car stop making it years ago but someone out there is still rocking one. just drive down your street to see an old antique car. is that dead? nope. the three stooges died years ago. i am probably the biggest fan having everything they have produced on disc and psp. as long as *I* remember them and play their works... they will never die... knowhatimsayin'?
  14. hmm i dont see a vote for the mz-1... THATs the best hands down.... both of mine are still going strong 13 years later... lets see if these candy pants hi md units make it that long....
  15. yeah thats how much the first gen player cost back in 1992 when it debuted.... in all fairness to sony, they had a new product that was so ahead of the times.. they had to recoup their R and D somehow...
