Thanks for the replies everyone. Surprisingly, 4.3 seems to work fine on my pc, and i think the transfer to md is slightly faster than before. On a side note, is it possible to reduce the transfer time to md, as it seems so unneccessarily time consuming when I have got some new music to put on and listen to, but have to wait for the transfer time. Thanks again everyone.

Hi, its been a while since ive been here and would appreciate the help... I recently had to uninstall some programs from my pc, including sonicstage 3.4 [for use on my nh1], I have searched the forum for the same version and the link appears to be dead. So i have resorted to downloading 4.3. Im running Win2k SP3. Will i have any issues using ss4.3, including uploading right protection etc. If so, can someone point me the right direction for a link to download 3.4 again. Thanks

hi, not sure if this is the right place for q's about the mp3gain program, but does anyone know the best way to make the volume of tracks in album all the same and louder without getting poppin/crackling? I find this program a bit confusing as i dont really understand the options, i have tried playing around a bit, but would like the opinion of other users. is it best to: 1.Import and analyse the album. 2.Change the target (normal) volume to the highest volume as shown in the analysis. 3.Click the "album gain" button? Or is there a suggested target volume other users use to increase the volume? I plan to go with 99.5 db, is this too loud or can i go louder? considering most tracks ive analysed are between 97 to 99. thanks in advance

Hi, I was wondering how i can import audio files from a folder into my library without it putting some tracks in one or more different playlists. Im using ss3.4 For example, a folder will contain 10 tracks which are an album, but when i import them to ss my library, 7 tracks will be in the new playlist, with correct names etc, and 1 track will be in a new playlist in addition to the 7 track playlist and 2 tracks will be in another playlist seperate to the other two already created. All i want to do is import a folder with the album as is, for transfer to my himd. As far as i can remember the old ss2 didnt do anything like this. any help on how to import without it putting tracks in different playlists??

Im am using the original headphones for normal use, and in the car its line in

Ok, im glad for your opinions and am surprised at the responses. Well to elaborate on my choices, the main thing for me initially was normal use of the md player, therefore i was just using relatively low bitrates to pack as many CDs onto the discs. After experimenting with the bitrates, hi and low, i found little difference in SQ when playing through the headphones, but could only tell a difference when playing through line out. But then my situation changed as my cd changer in my car packed up. The cost of replacing it was more than buying an adapter to use my md in the car. So i opted to go the md route. Since my situation changed i was just curious as to whether there would be a big difference if i used a hi bitrate through playback in the car and would like to know if anyone else uses there md as i do for their car stereos, if so which bitrate do they use? Thanks again for the replies

Thanks again for the responses, but just to mention, as i said the volume did increase, but im not talking a huge increase in output. And another point could be the eq curves that people are using. If they have maximum bass, then as the volume increases then the bass tones could be causing distortion and this could be reducing the amount of loudness that people are hearing after performing the hack

ok, i understand now. thanks for the help, but in regards to normal encoding, what is the difference between a normal bitrate, eg 64kbps and an 64atrac3 bitrate? also as most of the music i put on the md is mp3, usually 128 or 192kpbs, would this mean if i was using low bitrate i would not hear much degredation in sound quality over converting an mp3 @ 96 or 64kpbs at high bitrate?

Hi, I have recently upgraded from ss2 to ss3.4, and was wondering which bitrate to choose from. In ss3.4 I am pleased to find a better selection of bitrates compared to ss2. Anyway, in ss2 I would simply transfer my mp3 files at 64kpbs Atrac3plus. But since i have a greater variety to choose from in ss3.4 i am a bit confused which rate to use. Should I use the normal 64kpbs or 66kpbs Atrac? I playback through my car stereo and sometimes find the volume of encoded tracks on the md low, even if the volume is at 24. So another part to this question is, if i use a higher bitrate, say 132 Atrac or 192, will my encoded tracks playback louder as they are better quality? The final part to this is, if i use a higher bitrate such as 132 Atrac or 192, is there a large difference in the amount of space the files on the disc be that much larger? ie, better quality = larger files. If so how much larger? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me

Hey, Ive managed to hack the volume and can say that there is a definate increase in the volume from 24 onwards. Id just like to say thanks to those who replied to my post. THANKS Another question, are there any other hacks worth doing on the nh1? If so, can somebody point me in the right direction in this forum. Thanks again

hi thanks for the replies. But i noticed when i enter service mode, and perform these button actions: VOL+ | 0 Manual FWD | 100 MT FWD | 110 NV FWD | 111 xxxSCC (xxx values counting up...) FWD | 112 NoClock FWD | 113 xxxS25 (xxx values counting up...) my value for 113 is xxxS84 should i just press vol + or - until i reach 25? when i press vol+ the numbers increase, but am confused because in the posts you recommended me to read, somebodys value for 113 was AO as standard. Also my value for 112 was ClokOK. thanks for your help
