  1. And I can tell you that it works very nicely. It is a touch slow - don't be expecting a 1gb card to be copied in seconds, it's more like minutes. You will also find that it chews up batteries rather quickly. But if you are in need of a virtually unlimited photo storage device that does not tie up your camera and has that added 'can hook up with my Hi-MD' factor, the flash reader is a great buy. ~Archivist~
  2. Sorry to pull up this older post, but I have a bit of experience with this kind of thing. I have done ambient nature recordings in country areas at night, to hear crickets and night birds and the like. I have used the Sharp DR480 and the SP-BMC-12's, which make for a very good combination. Going to a better set of mics definitely helps due to the lower mic-noise levels. I am also considering a good preamp and even better mics. Even so, I have made recordings of nature in Mono with a lapel microphone, and the narrower frequency response of the mic meant that the bird and insect sounds were more distinct, clearly audible in the relative silence of the recording. I did those with the MZ-R55 with the mic level on High. I must say that you're a bit brave to be leaving your gear in the middle of the forest overnight! Funnily, I, too, can hear the flanging. It is clearer in the second half of the track, sounding like a regular 'rasa rasa rasa' noise.
  3. A number of people use clear adhesive plastic designed for PDA's and camera LCD's to protect their MD displays. If I get an RH10 I may invest in some to cover the entire front of the unit. I have access to an NH1, but I am far more used to the timestamping function of my MZ-R55, which was a real boon. I currently use a DR480 which does not feature timestamping, but I do miss that. And of course, congratulations on the new unit! Please let us know how it goes with live recording! Archivist
