Thanks, I checked it out, but it doesn't mention anything about setting record volume, I assume then this is automatic, that it will record at the same volume regardless if I put the volume to 30 or 1 while recording?

Now that I got a mic that can be used with my MD, what settings are best for recording? I have an MZ-R500 and just got a boosteroo mic, I've been messing around with it ,but can't find which settings are good for recording a lecture/group discussion. I know, I should place the mic in the middle of the group, but what vol settings? can the record volume be changed? how? I'd read my manual, but I don't have one now. thanks in advance! :-)

Yeah, considering this I am also looking to buy a new recorder. Any recommendations for price/functionality? Also, are there alternatives to MD recorders for portable quality recording?

Hi, I own an MZ-R500 from a few years ago. At that time I think I remember that I was able to record my voice using a cheap mic that came with a minicassette recorder, but after a few years I tried to record voice by using a mic to connect directly to the MD player, but it didn't work... after searching for a long time, I found this forum and this thread. So will this mic work with the MZ-R500? Any one have experience with this mic or MD player? Sony ECM-MS907 http://www.minidisco.com/ecm-ms907.html My main goal for recording is to record lectures, and perhaps piano and guitar music.
