I understand. Thanks for the precision. I just sent you the report with HIMDRenderer. Hope this helps. You still did a lot !!! Don't be sorry ! Thanks for your work.

Thanks for this advice. Unfortunately, it doesn't work too. I have converted the file, choosing the same bitrate, the conversion is OK, the file converted is the exact copy of the original one, but I still can't play the converted one, or convert it to WAV file... And strange thing, I can't convert the original file to another bitrate anymore, SonicStage tells me a conversion error occured while I was trying to convert file(s)...Strange...Same thing if I try to convert the converted file...But I checked with a valid file, it works perfectly. I have to try something else...Is Marc (from HIMDRenderer) looking at this forum ? I would really like to ask him for a debug version of HIMDRenderer, or to submit him my OMA file if it is possible to read it on another PC than mine...
-
Nope, not at all. When I play the file in SonicStage, the hourglass cursor appears, and...nothing. It comes back to pointer cursor after a few seconds...But the file is not played. There is something wrong in the OMA file, I need a tool to analyze it...
-
Thanks for your answer raintheory. But as I mentionned in my two previous posts, I have already tried to convert my file with HIMDRenderer, and the result is the same as SS : a 1Ko WAV file... That's why I was asking for a HIMDRenderer version with debug mode, which would allow me to see where the conversion crashes...
-
This is the problem. With SS, I can't convert the OMA file to WAV file. When I try to convert the track, the save dialog appears, I choose the place where I want to save my converted file, click Save, and then, the conversion progression windows appears for a few secondes, and close. When I look to the converted file, it is a 1Ko one !!! (the source OMA file is a 192Mo one !!!). When I open this file with Winamp, I see the file has a lenght of 0 minutes, 0 secondes (0:00)...So the WAV conversion doesn't work. I try the conversion with HIMDRenderer, which gives exactly the same thing. I have to fix the OMA file. Is there any way to see what is in OMA file, and to find errors ? I think HIMDRenderer is able to analyze and convert such files, so that my guess is it is possible to know through this process where the problem happens. Using a debug mode of HIMDRenderer, it should be possible to identify the problem no ? And maybe to fix it. Would an hex decoder be of any help ? Thanks for any help.

Thanks a lot for your answer Avrin, even if you don't tell me good news !!! Just a precision, the recording was fine, it crashes just when I edited it (pushing the "back" button for a while)...I'm pretty sure it's possible to do something, even if there is no solution today...And I'm lucky with a point, I've been able to upload the damaged track, so that I have it on my PC as an OMA file, not linked to hardware specificities...And it is complete !!! (192Mo)...I will try to work on it. I won't give up !

Hi, I have recorded a live session with a microphone Sony-ECM719 and my Hi-MD Sony MZ-RH10. While I was editing the tracks directly on the unit after the session, something went wrong. I remember I was pushing the "back" button to get fast previous from a few seconds in the song I was edited; that is when the problem occurred, the track was then unreadable, playing fast forward...It's readable with the MZ-RH10, but I can't hear anything, it plays very fast, with strange noises... I have used SonicStageCP 4.2.02.11020 to upload all the tracks of my disc, the upload worked fine. I was surprised it worked with the damage track too. I have tried to export all these files in WAV format, it worked for each of them, except the damaged one...Problem is, this is the last track of my disc, and a big one, ther must be one hour of the session in it ! I have to get it back. When I try to read the damaged uploaded file with SS, the hourglass cursor come, the track is not played... When I try to copy the files of the disc directly on my PC, I get an error of cycling redundancy, it must be int the HMA file with all the recording data...I think there is only one error, like one byte, which crach everything. I read lots of posts about it, and this is often the case. I tried to convert my damaged file with HIMDRenderer 0.54, the conversion worked fine, but the output file was only a 1Ko one ! Seems the software couldn't convert it too because of the error...I was full of hope :-) The idea would be to make a chkdsk /f on the disc. But I know this can't work on Hi-MD discs, because they are special discs, not like classical harddrives...So I was wondering if there were a tool to make the same thing on the Hi-MD discs ? It's really getting on my nerves that Sony doesn't propose any support and fix tools to its customers. I've been in touch with a recovery service in Austria, which apparently know how to do, but doesn't give any tools !!! This could be so helpful for many of us, to have a tool to fix our damaged recordings...Or at least a recovery service... I have thought many times to develop my omn software to extract directly from the HMA files my audio data...Not for piracy purpose, DRM/copyright violation or else, but just to have a way to fix problems, and must of all, to recover MY data ! I've started doing something, like HIMDLister for the moment, to get the "spirit" of HiMD programming...But I didn't get any further...Maybe it would be possible to create a community project no ? I think there are lots of people on forums.minidisc.org, mdfr.com and other forums who could give a hand to create such a project. I'm ready to get involved in it. I don't know if it's possible... Well. First of all, if someone know how I can fix my damaged track, I'm listening ! Thanks for any information concerning my request.

Free Data Recovery Service for Sony Hi-MD 1GB
gwel replied to carinou2005's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Does anobody know if this service work ? I have three or four Hi-MD which I can't read anymore (TOC problem, Disc error)...I would like to know if this service is really good. But that's a shame Sony doesn't give its customers the softwares to recover their data, though they can be damaged by their own products (SonicStage...) Thanks for any information about recovery. -
Hi, I have exactly the same problem, with the RH910 unit. I've just sent an e-mail to Sony asking them for a tool which could extract the audio files from the HMA files. My data are still there, I know it, I just need something to extract them ! I asked Sony twice before, they always answered "sorry, we have no such tools, it's not possible to recover your data". I can't believe that. As you say " Its a matter of going deep into SONY technical support to the people who made Sonic Stage." The problem is "where art these people ??? how to contact them ? will they do something for this problem ?". Anything else, if you find the german web site you were talking of, please let me know, I will check it. And tell us if you get an answer from Sony. I'll let you know if my request gives something too. I hope so, I really want to get my recordings back ! Thanks.

Well I think you're right, but I will have a try...One will see... Sure, it could be a solution. I thought about it. But I'm a bit afraid of what they can do with it, like "OK now we've got this disc, we format it, we wait for months telling this guy we are working on it, and we send it him back, telling we were not able to do anything...." Don't know, I will ask this question with Sony technical support, and see if I feel them OK to do that...But that sounds like a dream, I can't imagine them making such support with a lonely user... Well if I can't find any solution, maybe I will choose this option. I understand the security tools Sony wants to preserve...But it causes many flexibility problems for end-users. People now agree with the idea of using another software to save their data before using SS, because it often crashes...Where are we ??? We pay for a device, including software (because there are no alternative software to get files, thanks to Sony's own format...)...It's really strange to me... And maybe that makes Hi-MD less popular in Europe than I-Pod or others walkman (even if Hi-MD have a special functionnality compare to them, the recording !)...That's a long debate...I close the parenthesis. Thanks a lot for your explanations. TR sounds to be great (lossless, and quite low-cost for such performances), I will have a look...

Well thank you for your answer Syrius. But that's the point !! I can't read my files through SS !!! Even if they are listed correctly, with names, length, good properties (I made another check this morning, all datas seem to be OK). When I ask for disc properties, I have the good size of used space and free space...But when I click on "Play", nothing happens (I tried with others discs, it's ok). And when I try to import non imported files, the progression bar loads very quickly, becomes green, and then I got the message "an internal error occurred"...Because of the error on the disk... That's why I'ms sure there is a possibility to recover these files...Something like a scandisk for Hi-MD to fix the problem...Sony doesn't want to give me more info because they don't have it...I will write them again to tell them I dont' believe them, they are just trying to protect their security choices, which is understandable...But which not satisfied me as client and user !!! I will search until I find a solution (there's one)... For Total Recorder...After this first bad experience with SS3, I choose to make a "safe copy" of my records before uploading, as you say. But I use Audacity, which is free and good for me for the moment. I don't know if TotalRecorder has more functionnalities... Well, 'keep looking, I'll tell you when I'll find the solution !

Hi, I am new to this forum. Well, I bought recently a Sony RH-10. I owned a MZ-N710 before, I was really happy with lots of improvements which have been made on the last Hi-MD generation. The first time I used it was for live recording of my band. I put the good configuration, tested the recording, everything was perfect. After playing, I got a nice record... When I went back home, I have made editing directly on the recorder, setting divisions, song titles, etc...I stopped it to make it register the changes and edit the sytem file. Then I plugged the RH-10 to my laptop, to import files and create CD for me and my band. I opened SS3.0 (delivered with my Hi-MD), selected all the files on the Hi-MD (that was my mistake)...And I run the import...Everything went fine for the 5 first tracks...And then, the famous "omgjbox.exe" error, with report sending to Microsoft... Problem is, I was uploading while the error occurred...And apparently, SS3.0 writes on the Hi-MD while transferring. Here it was blocked. I turned off SS3.0, restart my computer...Try to get back to SS3.0. But couldn't import anymore my other tracks !!!! When I unplugged my RH-10, it tells me on the OLED screen to format my Hi-MD, which was bad format (because of the crash, data were not saved...). After #&%$* against Sony, I decided to plug again the RH-10 to my laptop and to open SS3.0. I was very surprised to see my files on the right side on the screen, in the Hi-MD explorer !!! SS3.0 list them correctly, with the titles, the length, the properties when I right-clicked one, ...But when I try to import non-imported files, an error occurs (message : "an internal error occured"). I checked in the properties, they are not listed as "still imported", I should be able to upload them...When I want to play a track through SS3.0, same thing, nothing happens...But files are here !!!!!!!!!!!!! I wrote to Sony France for technical help. I should have guessed their answer..."Well, sorry for this error....blablabla...Sony's engineers don't know any way to recover data on Hi-MD...blablabla....Here are some possible reasons for SS3.0 disfunctionment, etc, etc..." Of course I don't believe them, they have solutions, but they can't give people softwares that could break their security technologies... I've read the posts about "omgjbox" here...I saw this error could occur because of lots of conditions...For info, I have Win XP + SP2 (I didn't install the patch mentionned in lots of post yet), SS3.0, DirectX9, S3 Graphics Twister K as video card,... But my main problem is : is there a way to get back my data from my Hi-MD ? Tracks are still on it !! I don't know, something like a scandisc to fix possible errors, or specific Hi-MD softwares... This record is really important to me, I have to get it back !!! So I'm looking for any software which could give me a chance to do that.... Or is it possible to develop a software which could be SS-like, without bugs !! Are there such projects somewhere ? I could give a hand. Thanks for any information you can provide to me.
