  1. They don't seem especially cheap, the 10-pack of Hi-MD blanks is much more expensive than in shop here in Sweden, including 25% added VAT...
  2. It's maybe also possible that they will have optical out in Japan but not in other countries...
  3. Well, do you have Windows 98 or Windows 98SE (Second Edition)?
  4. I also read in the FAQ that SP2 is a must for XP, I wonder why? It's not just a pain in the neck...
  5. Yes, I know about the preamps and how expensive they are considering my need to mainly record speech... I thought that there were something somewhat cheaper with lower audiophile standards... If I want to use one of the NetMD's as a preamp, do I need it to record to a disc at the same time or will it always send a monitoring signal out on the headphone output?
  6. For uninstall: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=8071
  7. I will - I think it's reboot time tomorrow...
  8. Contact the shop and say that you will buy one when the yget it with the new FW...
  9. So the problem with the Line In is the extra track marks, nothing else (apart from needing a power source)? We are recording mainly speech (my wife reads affirmations and other stuff which she then listens to when at vacation, some ambient music can be played in the background so there will be no track marks). I'm looking for a cheap, but usable, mic that can be used for Line In. We have a normal mic that has been used for our N710/N910, but now that I have bought NH600 with only Line In we need a new mic so that we will not have to record to the old MD's and then copy to Hi-MD... I first thought that something like this would be usable: Powered Mic ...but then I read in the description that it's not really sensitive enough for use with Line In. Aren't there any mics at this reasonable price suitable for Line In? Remember, it's for speech and not live concerts...
  10. Yes, I believe you and it will be SB then. I have some programs running so I do not want to reboot my machine. When they are done I will complete the deinstall of everything SonicStage/OpenMG and try to install SS3.2 (I guess it won't be any problem (more than usual...) with a European NH600 and the downloadable SS3.2 here?
  11. Thanks for the info, so maybe I should go the SS3.2 route anyway. In what way is SB less work (haven't used it, but thought I should try now that I upgraded to a Hi-MD unit)? I will always encode from CD records, nothing from HD, no MP3, and want nothing or as little as possible left on the HD afterwards.
  12. It's for connecting to the optical in on your reciever/amplifier, if that's on par with or better than your MD deck. Or if, like in my system, it's just about all digital (Meridian).
  13. This can be somewhat risky, files may be shared with other Sony programs. While one of course would want to delete all programs Sony has been involved in, having a Sony Ericsson phone that might not be the best thing to do. Better rename the directory and delete it another time if nothing bad has happened to any program. Can someone give a directory list of what files SonicStage/OpenMG put there? I have AVLib, OpenMG, StopMusicServer, PD & Visualizer. Looking closer, it sure looks like these all must be Minidisc related... I have a directory, "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM", is that also involved with SonicStage/OpenMG? It's a hidden dir, with the files drmv2.lic, drmstore.hds, v2ks.sec, v2ks.bla, drmv2.sst and drmv2.lic. I had both a "Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/SonicStage" and a "Documents and Settings/All Users/SonicStage" dir... OpenMG drivers can't be uninstalled without a mandatory reboot - you don't get the choice of "Restart Now"/"Restart Later" as "real" programs gives...
  14. If I had only three 1GB disks I would take the time and extra work and go the straight path from CD->MD. Going through one lossy format and an extra encode/decode and end up in another lossy format isn't good for sound quality.
  15. But I thought you had to hack the unit to get any volume increase above 25? Or do you then get volume increase without compression, or what?
  16. What do you mean by "layer 1"? MP3 is "MPEG-1, layer 3"...
  17. My Hi-MD MZ-NH600 I bought cheap here in Sweden little over a week ago is said in the manual to have 3mW++3mW as European models should (and it has remote port+line in as European models have), yet the volume clearly increases all the way up to 30...? I thought all European models were crippled by making volume increase only work up to 25?
  18. ...or if you have a DVD-Audio player you could store a lot more of those 16/44,1 on one DVD using this free program: http://dvd-audio.sourceforge.net/ (could of course also be used for 24-bit recordings)
  19. There are always those "Headphone mics" you place on your head, looks like normal headphones but are pure mics.
  20. OK, proprietary parts are never good pricewise for consumers... ...but "LIP-4WM" indicates it's a Lithium-polymere battery, they are still pretty expensive everywhere. It has gone from NiCd-->MiMh-->LiIon-->LiPol, Lithium Polymere batteries can be made very small...
  21. There are now batteries like the Varta IC-3, 2000 mAh, that in their special charger can be recharged in fifteen minutes... At the moment quite steep price here in Sweden, though. Which battery cost $59? Not the Sony NH-14WM? It cost $20 here in Sweden, so it can't cost $59 anywhere in the world...
  22. These cables are decent radio antennas, so if you are close to a radio station you could need the clamps on. They could also be useful riding an electrical-powered tram...
  23. ...and of course there are those that break the rules... MZ-DN430PS doesn't have the "D" at the end (because it's "so PSYC cool"...) and neither has MZ-DH10P. Is the "D" still denoting "Download only" in these models? MZ-NH520D is (was) not a Hi-MD player. Any more "Bad Eggs" when it comes to model names?
  24. In "the old days" I think SonicStage had a deal with the HD manufacturers. I was pleasantly surprised, for once, when I after an upgrade of SonicStage saw that it had just made a pointer to the original file.
  25. Actually, if you ask them, several music publishers will exchange your copy protected CD for an unprotected one.
