  1. It sounds surprisingly good compared to the source as well, only some high frequency is lacking compared to the original in your test file - and on my computer speakers that's not audible. Had to play the samples on my hi-fi system...
  2. What M$ wants with Vista, DRM and video/audio is/seems to be this: * A user should be able to upload a CD, DVD or HD-DVD to a Media Server running Vista. DRM should make it impossible (hard) to copy that stuff to another location/media. * A network of display devices like TV sets, wireless tablet PCs, projectors, "music boxes"... should be able to "tap" the information from the server in any room of the house. * One copy of a CD/DVD should (probably) be allowed, but that copy would be "uncopyable".
  3. There's nothing special with a charger, doesn't have to be a Sony charger. It need to fit your sockets, use your voltage, deliver 6V, have the same radius of the plug, (many universal chargers come with a set of plugs) have the same polarity (often switchable for universal units).
  4. I guess my 940 deck also has optical out, not sure though...
  5. The NH1 is Magnesium, you can't order international at the moment but that may change when they get the time to handle it due to the extra worrk and cost caused by sending the batteries separately. Though I still wonder why they say there is no signed-for Airmail, only courier, when Australia Post says there is (insured too)...
  6. ...the second way is to go into the service menu and change it from European to some other destination code. It's described in the forum, but it's a bit dangerous since you may make it unusable.
  7. The source of the confusion is this: You don't need to use a 1GB disc, usually called a Hi-MD disc. But you need to use a Hi-MD formatted disc, which could be either a standard "74 min"/"80 min" disc or a 1GB disc. A standard disc, when formatted for Hi-MD, holds almost twice as much as when formatted for a standard MD player.
  8. Well, if you have a WAV file and select it to be transferred "as is" it will of course be transverred "as is" and become a PCM recording on the Hi-MD. What you have set as the fallback bitrate doesn't matter.

    Help!

What OS do you have, what Service Pack?
  10. Yes, they should be getting more in the beginning of December.
  11. No, you don't have any ATRAC3+ at 1411kbps - it's uncompressed PCM. 352kbps is ATRAC3+, but not lossless. You may be thinking of the new lossless variants that has two parts, each file has a lossless and a lossy part. The lossy part gives the name to the codec, and it's the lossy part that is transferred to your Hi-MD. The lossless part is (mainly) used for playing music on your computer.
  12. If you have made a digital recording you should have a look at Hi-MD Renderer.
  13. If we were starting with insults a similar comment about brains seems to fit... You don't differentiate between "data compression" and "audio compression" - you differentiate between "lossy compression" and "lossless compression". Examples of lossy compression: JPEG for pictures MP3 and ATRAC for audio MPEG (1/2/4) for video Examples of lossless compression: ZIP and RAR for computer files (usually data files, but not necessary) FLAC, APE and WAVPACK for CD-Audio (and other audio) MLP for DVD-Audio RLE for B/W pictures
  14. DUH to you, you really seem to be totally uneducationable. And, of course playback devices that play FLAC files start with decompress them. Simple example: The string "33333333333333333333" can (using a VERY simple algorithm) be compressed to "~20*3". If the same algoritm is run backwards it will be decompressed to "33333333333333333333".
  15. As already reported in this thread, it doesn't help much.
  16. If you already have installed using the 3.3 web installer the full installer gives you nothing new. It's for people not having internet connection on the machine they are going to install SS3.3 on, handy to have the full installer taking a small part of a Hi-MD disc so you can install it on any machine you get your Hi-MD recorder to.
  17. As already answered a couple of times in this thread, no, but a new one is cheap. Though international orders are closed at the moment.
  18. Haven't tried Easy CD Creator, but sometimes vendors just give a different name to an .iso file (like the .img "format") so make one try change the extension of the image to .iso and see what happens.
  19. Well, those are "Sony Copy-protected CD's" anyway - wouldn't put them into anything you care for anyway... When it comes to eventually open up for International Orders again, I'm pretty sure they're waiting for two things: * The general workload on them to lessen, so they can handle the extra work. * All positive reports from us "Early Buyers", that the extra package with the batteries arrived Safe & Sound. If they have the extra hassle of repackaging the batteries and then people (regardless if they tell the truth or not) say they "didn't get the batteries - send new ones!" I would think they wouldn't reopen international shipping for players. BTW, I got Spiderman, Delta Goodren and Beyonce - it was a lose - lose with those CD's all along...
  20. BTW, Sony also has a 1750 mAh gumstick battery: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...Y_BIN_Stores_IT
  21. Without testing them an educated guess would be that the difference in time is proportional to the difference in mAh (1350 compared to 900). That would mean 50% longer time for NH-14WM.
  22. You are correct, but I bought two NH1 and one NH900 - so I have use for the NH-14WM in the NH900. The NH1's have to wait for batteries.
  23. I think the main thing with a player-only unit is that it's usually thinner and lighter, gets used more often that way. For me now it's just to wait for the LIP-4WM's to arrive by airmail, good thing I have a charged NH-14WM from my MZ-N910 to put in the NH900
