  1. Tried it, no dice. I'll test a few other things now...
  2. No, the player IS NOT dead!!! I just can't use MP3FM anymore. I used ml_sony and winamp and it works. I just tried SonicStage (which is not half as bad as everybody makes it - no problems for me here at all) and this also works. Just MP3FM imported songs don't play anymore but they did!
  3. None, I did format it by the function the player offers NOT windows. And I never used SonicStage. Read! Live and learn eh?
  4. Well it worked for me many months ago. But I have not used my player since. And when I try to do it again now it only gives me that error. The MP3FM DID WORK hoever. So its not that it would be impossible. ATM I'm moving stuff over with ml_sony and winamp, which is just a big plaque as SS
  5. Hi there I wanted to fill my old NW-A608 with music for my wife because I got a new player. I formatted the NW-A608 and used to MP3FM to drag and drop MP3s onto the player. No matter what I do though the player does not play any of those files. I always get the error "CANNOT PLAY". Anybody has an idea what I can do???
  6. Oh, it does. Just did that with my NW-A608. Installed that exe and ran the copytool, it notices the players as drive k: (in my case) and installs the manager to both without a problem. It doesn't seem to make a difference. Maybe the harddisk based A models are different here, don't know.
  7. Isn't the mp3 manager copied to the device via its own copy routine? When you install the mp3 manager you can find it in your programs/sony dir and there you can find the copytool.exe file, start it and it will copy the manager over to the device if the device can handle it. Get the installer here: http://www.sonydigital-link.com/DNA/downlo...t=NWF&f=MP3FM20
  8. Yes, that's what I thought but what's that MP3_PA_Driver.exe for than anyway if Windows already knows the NW-E and NW-A??? I plugged them into my laptop without that driver installed and they're detected as mass storage. So what does that driver actually do???
  9. Ok, I tested our devices a little more. I took the same two tracks, same headphones and same volume settings and they both sound pretty much identical. I also plugged them both into the Line-In of my soundcard and recorded the same sample with both devices and no amplification and the waveforms are pretty much the same with only very minor differences. The volume was set to the same level and the loudness in the waveforms is the same too from both devices. The only difference I could find is that the max with activated AVLS on the Asian-Pacific NW-E507 is 16 (out of 31) while the max with activated AVLS on the European NW-A608 is 19 (out of 31) so the max volume allowed by AVLS is different. But 16 (or any other setting) on the Asien-Pacific 507 is the same as on the European 608 from what I can hear and the waveform recordings show. The volume on both appears to be pretty much the same. I turned the AVLS off and must say that even with the included headphones I find 22 and up too loud and nearly uncomfortable for my ears. Those test were made at home with no other noises present so on the road that might be different but I can't image turning mine (the the one of my wife for that matter) higher than 25 anywhere. And when using in-ear-headphones like the Sharp MD33S you need to lower that volume even more. Even on the road I find 15 to pretty much ok and way loud enough. That leaves 16 to go before reaching the max. So I don't think they are too silent at all, they seem more silent then other mp3 players (like the Yepp) from the max setting but I'm never coming close to that anyway.
  10. Thank you, for 1 it doesn't matter much because the "enhancements" aren't that important. For 2, I leave the folders already there alone for sure just making a new one for my files. But I wasn't sure if that would result in problems with the MP3Manager or something. That leads me to another question. There's a driver (together with the MP3Manager) for those player so that they are recognized. What happenes if you plug them in without drivers installed? I'm asking because the PCs at work don't have those drivers and we're not allowed to install them for sure. This may affect the MP3 transfer stuff but this is unimportant. Does the lack of driver means they may not be recognized and therefor are unusable as mass storage?
  11. Thanks for the warm welcome. The 608 was bought in Europe, the 507 was bought on a trip to Singapore and it seems to me both are pretty much the same from the volume settings and max volume. I agree that with "normal" headphones the sound tends to be a little too silent if using AVLS (max is 16 then) but even here a setting of around 20 (AVLS off) is way enough for my ears. When using in-ear-headphones like the Sharp MD33S (they sound better than anything else I've heard) 12-15 is way enough most of the time. So I hardly use 50% of the volume. Can't imagine other models beeing much more silent.
  12. WHAT??? Far too quite??? I've mine running on 12-15, that's not even half the max volume. What's the matter with you guys??? Time to get some good in-ear-headphones, I find 15 too be nearly too loud with my Sharp MD33S from Japan. Player is European though.
  13. Hi, I bought a NW-E507 for my wife and a NW-A608 for me So far, I like both pretty much. I use MP3Manager for both even if it means sacrificing some 608 features but I can't stand that shitty Sony software. Both are working well and sound great esp. with the Sharp MD33S in-ear-headphones I ordered from Japan because they are the best to be had. Two questions though: 1.) I flashed my 608 to firmware 2.0 no problem but the 507 can't be flashed, error like "system info can't be found" pops up. I used the right 507 flasher (even tried the slightly different 200 and 201 thingies) but won't work. This is no biggie though since the changes are hardly worth the hassle. Any ideas? 2.) Can those devices be used as a USB data stick too??? I mean, they are notices as mass storage devices and both my wife and me use about 50% for music on each so we'd like to use the other 50% for documents and other stuff we need to transfer from and to work. We did that with our old Samsung Yepp but that is a little small with 256MB now. I'd like to create a folder on the devices and put docs, jpgs etc in there. Can this be done safetly or will it screw up the music data or the device itself? Thanks for your help.
