Hi, the NH1 is a tough son of a b****. The magnesium case is very sturdy and it really feels strong. I've used mine 2-3h a day for 3 years and it works like a charm. It's the strongest walkman I ever had (and that includes several CD, tape, MD and MP3 players). As theblueraja said you have to be careful not to open the player in a dusty environment. You should also consider a case. I bought off ebay a neoprene soft case wich protects very well and would prevent most dust from getting in the walkman.
