  1. Great post Matt C. I still do the mix 'tapes' and then the artwork and my kids look at me with incredulity. I explain everyone needs their little piece of escapism and md is mine. Long may it continue
  2. Many thanks for posting. I was a recent victim of SonicStage crashing on startup and after many attempts to get it going again, (reinstall, system restore, sweaty palpitations, etc) I came across this thread and tried the Safe Mode fix and it worked for me too. I can relate to the joy you experienced last year! Despite the obsolete issue I've been carrying on with MD/SS regardless as it does everything I want from a portable/music management solution. However, this issue with SS was a bit of a wakeup call. It's made me nervous - will SS continue to work forever or is it wise to plan for the future without it?
  3. 1. How old were you when you first 'bought into' the format? 42 in 2002 2. Do you still regularly use your very first player? No, it broke but I can't throw it away. I'd like to know why. 3. Do you regularly 'use' your items, or are some purely of interest as a 'collector'? User 4. Do you listen to 'new' music on your discs, or prefer to keep the format for music 'of the era'? I have MDs for old music & MDs for new music (all appropriately labelled) 5. Do you own more items than you can 'practically use'? Yes but this is purely insurance against breakages over the next 20 years or so. 6. Did you 'go away' from MiniDisc', only to return to it at a later date? No. 7. Do you associate use of your player with 'fond memories', or is it a purely 'practical' consideration? It's practical but my MDs always accompany me on journeys/holidays and I equate the music rather than the player to those times.
  4. Definitely worth giving SonicStage a go. I, like you, was apprehensive about using it due to the bad press I'd seen but I've been using SS 4.3 on both XP and Windows 7 for over a year without a sniff of a problem. I really like it. It sure beats the hell out of that Apple nonsense.
  5. Brilliant, thank you. Love this forum...and dare I say quite fond of SonicStage too! T
  6. When importing into SonicStage an album such as World Party's 'Bang' where the final track is 27MB because there is a 'hidden' track after 20 minutes or so of silence, is there anyway just to import the music and not the space that is occupied by silence?
  7. Yup, I'm in the UK (just updated my profile). Many thinks Stephen / Jim for the advice. Yes, my real worry was the problem quoted above. But now I know it's possible there will be more of a spring in my step in the search for the new car. I buy new and try and get a dozen years out of them so if I can get the MD unit in I see no reason why I shouldn't be still listening to my minidiscs until 2023....a very comforting thought
  8. The Vauxhall Zafira is about to reach the end of road. However, my CA790X minidisc unit in it is still playing as well as the day it was installed. I'm starting to look at new cars but they all seem to have integral CD/tuner units. Does anyone know if it's possible get an old unit into a new car or is it bye bye to md on the road?
  9. What about a deck? Some of my recent recordings made on my Marantz MD110 have been skipping when played back so I've been putting a Lens cleaner in (Sony MD-6L CL). Am I just making the problem worse?
  10. I've been using minidisc for a few years now but only just started recording using OpenMG & NetMD. My deck is a Sony JE780 and the process of checking out an album appears okay. However, when I play back the MD I notice that track mark is out of sync with the music i.e. track2 starts to play but the display still shows the name and time of track1. On LP2 & LP4 this is just an annoyance but on SP it means track2 pauses for a second whilst the display catches up. Also if you just want to play one track from an MD you miss the first couple of seconds. Hope I've explained that okay and if anyone knows whether it's me being stupid or whether it's faulty software/hardware then I'd love to know.
  11. I'd like to play......can do SP LP2 or LP4.
