  1. Thanks for the link - neat photo. I would have been suprised if no one else had made one - it's easy, but I didn't see it in my search. BTW, I think Sony's 50 hour playback technology from a single AA cell is just phenomenal. Nylo
  2. Thanks for the replies. It'll be the feature that gets me to finally upgrade, perhaps, and try HiMD. The longer I wait, the more the technology matures. I bought my '98 Ford Expedition second hand, and was delighted to discover the compression feature in the factory CD player. I leave the portable on the desk at work, with an adaptor cord connecting the headphone output to the AUX RCA inputs of my desktop stereo system. So you see, I'm not wearing the player around. Also, I have a homebrew external battery pack connected to it. A 2 D cell gizmo. See a recent message in the Technical Tips forum on this and how to build it. Someone else has also posted pics of one they built. Regards, Nylo
  3. Hello All, I attempted to search the forums for audio playback compression - forgive me if this has been covered. Are there any portable MD players offering this feature? I'm still using my old but trusty MZ-N505 NetMD Walkman, which does not have it. My car CD player has a compression option, which is terrific for maintaining consistent audio levels throughout loud and soft passages in the music. This is especially helpful when you have background noise. In addition, I listen to music at work every day. I don't want to annoy coworkers when loud passages come on, and I move around enough to make wearing earphones impractical. Thanks, Nylo
  4. Hello All, I'm a minidisk user for several years and new to the forums. I have been using an old MZ-M505 Net MD walkman on my desk at work for several years. I want to share a tip for making a super long-lasting external battery pack. Forgive me if this has been covered.. I didn't see this in previous topics of the technical tips forum. This pack works for portable players having a 3VDC DC IN jack (normally for the charger). This pack has been powering my player for 10 months, avg about 3 hrs per workday (M-F), one the SAME set of batteries. From Radio shack, purchase: 2 D cell plastic battery holder Male coaxial power plug that fits the DC IN jack of your player. 2 D-size alkaline batteries One AA alkaline battery (for your player) This holder is designed to connect the batteries in series, creating a portable 3V DC source. Wire up the coaxial plug to the holder with a suitable length of wire, taking care to route the red + lead to the center hole of the plug, as illustrated on the side of your player. Check it with a meter! Install the batteries, plug it up, and enjoy an absolutely amazingly l o n g playback time! Happy Building! Nylo
