  1. 's an auction. Depends how much people bid More seriously though, I reckon it will go for between £120-150, possibly even a little more given that MD prices on eBay seem to have been rising recently. I'm keeping it on eBay as it's the easiest way to ensure I get the money.
  2. I'm finally letting go of the excellent piece of kit that is my MZ-RH10. I really wanted to hang on to it in case my RH1 ever dies, but I need the money to move house. I'm selling it worldwide so you're all invited. It's on eBay here or just search for "RH10". My eBay username is the same as on these boards "richthebeard". I'm sure you all know what it is, so I won't go on about the spec etc., besides which it's all in the listing. I'm sure it'll make whoever buys it very happy. All accessories included.
  3. Thanks for the quick, comprehensive and helpful responses guys. @A440: The group is a Pat Metheny tribute group (the samples being of Have You Heard and First Circle). Sadly I've never heard of Hermeto Pascoal or Milton Nascimento, but I'll look them up! That recording sample you sent was fantastic - it sounds like an amazing venue and that must certainly help add to the recording quality. I think i'll definitely look at getting a new mic. Could you make any more specific recommendation based on the following? $200 is my top limit for the mic (I'm in the UK, so it'll actually be about £100), but if i could get away with spending less that would be greatSize isn't too much of an issue, but I really need it to be one unit rather than left and right on separate leadsI don't mind it being a studio mic etc, as long as it sounds good! You'll probably hate me for this, but it would be great if it could cope with recordings as diverse as being sat on top of my bass amp and 200ft away at the back of the venueSomething freestanding (or mounted on a small stand) is a mustI play mostly jazz, so the recordings I attached are about as loud as it gets (ok, maybe this is: http://www.jazzupmyevent.co.uk/sample3.mp3 )Greenmachine's battery box seems so neat (and I'm an electronics student) that i'd probably knock one of those up if needed. Could you advise whether I'd need it for any mic you recommend? Do you think i'd be better off going in through the line input? @greenmachine Thanks for the reply. In terms of the settings are you talking a mic-in level or line? I am definitely fine with leaving headroom as I can always bring the level up later. Listening closer, I can really hear the AGC adjusting the level, making for a slightly uncomfortable listening experience (the loud bits almost seem to get quieter). Thanks for the battery box design! If I end up making one I might try making a board and surface mounting the components to see how small I can get it. @boojum: Yet again, thanks for the reply. How much difference will using PCM make? I only ask because I would like to avoid it unless it will make a significant difference. I tend to like to keep my collection of recordings on the MDs themselves and PCM would use up a lot more discs and battery, especially for 5-hour rehearsals! @All: What difference does the "Mic Sens" setting of the RH1 make? I have it set low, but is that unnecessarily attenuating my input, especially if i manually set the record level lower? Mic recommendations (based on the above) gratefully received.
  4. Hi there, I was wondering whether you guys could take a listen to some recordings I made recently of a band I play in and help me to improve them. You can find the recordings at: http://www.jazzupmyevent.co.uk/sample1.mp3 http://www.jazzupmyevent.co.uk/sample2.mp3 To my ears, they seem very muffled and clipped (or compressed?) - could this be due to the microphone, or maybe the settings on the recorder? I did try it with AGC set to "For Music" but this seemed to cause a lot more clipping as the band is very loud - does that observation seem reasonable? Could you suggest settings to use in future for clearer recordings? Due to the nature of the sessions I don't have time to adjust settings for each track, so suggestions for a "best compromise" solution would be gratefully received. Obviously the quieter tracks will turn out quieter on the recordings, but I don't mind this as long as they're clear! Do I have to bite the bullet and buy a new mic? The process used was: 1) Microphone Sony ECM-DS70P Stereo "T" Mic 2) Recorder MZ-RH1 Rec Mode: Hi-SPMic Sens: LowMic AGC: StandardRec Level: Auto (AGC)3) Import and convert to WAV with SonicStage 4.2.02.110204) Convert to 128Kbps 44.1kHz stereo mp3* *I realise this compression isn't ideal, but the lack of clarity and clipping occur before compression
  5. I seem to recall from the MDcenter review that it was possible to upload write-protected discs to SonicStage with the RH1. When I try to upload a write-protected self-recorded (analogue) Hi-MD recording SS tells me that I can't do it without de-protecting the disc. Is this how it should work? Will this be the same for all discs? If not, any suggestions (I think i'm using the latest SonicStage)? Thanks
  6. Hi there, finally got myself a RH10, great piece of kit. I recorded my jazz quintet on Wednesday, 2 sets, HiMDLP, one group per set, one long track per set. I cut up the tracks that night on the unit with track marks. I titled a couple using SonicStage, but realised that i had missed a mark on one of the tracks in the first group. I tried to add a mark on the unit, but got the error "CANNOT EDIT", getting the same error for any track in that group. The strange thing is that i can still mark the tracks in the second group (even those i have titled with SS) I hadn't imported any tracks. The tracks are a few minutes each and all in the same format, using mic recording. I can now record, mark, title (with SS), mark to my heart content with any new recordings, just not that one. Any ideas? R
  7. Hi there, I have been researching Hi-MD players on this forum for quite a while, but have some questions about the RH range that, although they may be answered somewhere here, I can't seem to find definitive answers for. Feel free to point me to relevant posts if i've been stupid. Background I currently own a MZ-N1 which is a great little player but has a few flaws: - Transferring recorded tracks to PC is a pain - Having to convert .mp3s to upload them - Having to have music from CDs in .omg format (if i want to avoid the last problem) So I am looking at selling the MZ-N1 and buying a Hi-MD recorder. I initially liked the NH1, but although it seems like good pieces of kit I am leaning towards the RH range for battery life and mp3 compatability (questions on those later). I need a mic in, so that lead me ot either the RH910 or RH10. Questions on the RH10 and RH910 (in order of significance) 1) Can I drag-and-drop mp3s? or do i have to go through SonicStage? Could you point me to somewhere with a Hi-MD mp3 overview? 2) Are uploads from analogue sources on Hi-MD to PC restricted to once only? Does the original file on the Hi-MD get deleted? 3) I have read that mp3 playback only works with MPEG1 encoding. Obviously you don't know my mp3 collection, but what is the likeleyhood of having to re-encode? What happens with mp3s encoded with MPEG2 etc? 4) Is a standard USB connector used? Can I connect and download/upload mp3s etc. to other PCs without drivers? 5) I only have USB 1 available. Is that a problem (besides "it'll be slower")? 6) I know there are dimensions and weights online, but could someone who has experienced a MZ-N1 and/or the RH910/10 let me know the physical differences in laymans terms (i.e. "it's a bit lighter / fatter / heavier / thinner / more spiky") 7) Do they both use gumstick batteries and come with external AA battery pack like my MZ-N1? 8) Can I play MDs through my PC speakers via USB (i.e. if i try playing tracks on my MZ-N1 using SonicStage, audio only comes through the MD player, not the computer)? If so, is this possible for standard-format MDs or just Hi-MD formatted MDs? Is this clear enough, or entirely incomprehensible? 9) Is the difference between the RH910 and RH10 purely aesthetic and supplied battery? 10) Is it worth upgrading? 11) Strategy - I'm not worried about buying a second-hand player, but would the best place to buy be ebay? If so, should I bag a pre-christmas bargain or wait for those unwanted xmas gifts? Thanks very much for any help, the forum in general has also been extremely useful. Rich
