  1. Can you play any of the files on your minidisc through your computer speakers when your minidisc is connected in sonicstage? Have you tried reinstalling sonicstage?? Other than this I dont know what else to suggest, sorry I cant be of more help! Matt
  2. Yup I have this problem too. I had the same problem with my N910 aswell, which I sent to sony to be repaired. This took a couple of months as the first time they replaced the remote control instead! I dont want to send my RH10 away for this length of time, so if anyone has a DIY solution please share.
  3. Try reformating the discs, both in sonicstage and from the unit itself. make sure windows explorer is not open as it may be causing a conflict.
  4. Welcome to the forums It may be best to re rip all the CD's in sonicstage 3.3 as this version allows you to rip CD's without copyright protection, this means that if you upgrade in the future you wont have this problem again as they can be copied much the same as mp3's. Songs ripped in sonicstage 2.3 have copyright protection, so they are almost impossible to transfer to another computer. Hope this helps, matt
  5. It sounds like the batteries are dead, or maybe the recharge circuit in the unit has gone. The unit should charge using the AC adaptor without the need for a cradle. You could buy a wall charger for gumstick batteries, try ebay for these.
  6. I encoded a CD on my dads computer (AMD athlon XP 2400 (2Ghz)) to transfer to my minidisc and it took over twice as long to encode the files as my 1.6 pentium M. Both computers have 1Gb of RAM. I realise the pentium M is equivelent of about 2.4Ghz destop processor, but there is a huge difference in encoding times. Is the Pentium M a good processor to encode media files, or is there a better processor for this? Let me know your experiences. Matt
  7. I have created many minidiscs with VBR mp3 files on and have yet to encounter a file which will not play. The player will even tell you the average bitrate of the file as a whole, a nice touch I thought.
  8. I'll leave that one to you sparky as I do not have any units that can record SP anymore (the record function broke). Hopefully sonicstage 3.4 can transfer true SP, then I would be able to test.
  9. Thanks for everyone who voted on this, it seems that most people can tell the difference between the two. I've noticed that 352 sounds alot better with music with lots of treble (e.g. dance music). But whether its worth the extra space is another matter. I personally dont like too many albums on one disc as I forget whats on there, so I have used 352 alot. Matt
  10. Yes I've noticed this, I've also noticed that if you transfer a CD to MD as one, the trackmarks are ~1/4 of a second before the trackmarks of the original CD. This doesnt occur if I transfer the CD to my MD 1 track at a time, odd!
  11. To reach higher capacitys, the recorders would most likely have to drop support for current minidiscs. 2nd gen HiMD's cant record directly to minidiscs in the old legacy mode, signs than sony is dropping old MD support and moving to larger capacity discs maybe??
  12. Thanks for your review Kurisu, did you have a good time? I am interested in what Sonys plans to open up atrac are. I assume you mean SP and not atracplus? Do you think it is likely we could see atrac software encoders apperaring in 2006?, this would be great news for the Net MD owners as it would likely mean that true SP could be imported and transfered by sonicstage! More updates for sonicstage is also good news, as I can now see a point when this will become an excellent music management program with all bugs ironed out of it. As this is the case, I dont think it is as important at this stage if connect supports minidiscs (obviously when this program becomes as mature as sonicstage then it would be nice!) Matt
  13. Greatings Volta, I havent read any law books or anything, but going on what has been said on other threads I have read, I believe this to be the case. Im sorry I dont know the links to them, so I wouldnt take this as the definite truth. The best way to test this would be to find someone who has a minidisc unit in Switzerland (Outside the EU, but geographically in Europe). If it has crippled volume, then Sony is making a bog standard European model. If it does not, it would be relatively safe to assume that it is a European union law, and volume limits are only applied to minidisc units in member countries. Matt
  14. The volume limitation is only required by french law (gibbons), but sony dont want / cant be bothered to make seperate french minidisc players, so the whole of europe gets lumbered with these reduced output machines.
  15. It is kinda pointless really, I was just wondering what other people had done. Replaced your normal MD's with HiMD's or reformat your normal discs, or mabye keep them in netmd mode?
  16. Welcome to the forums Bruno Sounds like the record head has broke or misaligned. I have this problem on one of my old units. Not much you can do except take it to a repair shop, or buy another from eBay.
  17. Anyone else feel the need to throw away all their normal minidiscs and replace them with himd's! I keep buying more, i mean why carry around 4 discs when you can have just one!
  18. Really useful stuff thanks greenmachine, have set my eq lower now. Just wondered what volume level you tested it at, as it seems that the top ~3 notches before maxium volume increase the treble but not the bass (in my personal opinion). Most likely to prevent distortion due to excessive bass.
  19. What is the weight difference between these two like?
  20. Does anyone know if you can get the remote backlight permanently on for a European RH10, i.e. service menu hack?
  21. I sometimes record vinyl at 352kb/s atrac. You cant record this bitrate directly from the unit but if you.. 1) Record your mix in PCM quality 2) Upload the files to sonicstage 3) Transfer the files back to a minidisc, selecting atrac3plus 352 kb/s (note you need sonicstage 3.3 for this option to be available for minidisc)
  22. how many Hi MD recorders do you need, 1, 2? how about 14! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Job-Lot-14-Sony-Hi-M...1QQcmdZViewItem Worth reselling on maybe, biddings only at £200 with a day and a bit left? RRP £1850

    Mp3's

It may be a corrupt mp3 file, i sometimes get that, and i solve it by converting the mp3 to .wav then copying it to atrac. (then delete the .wav file). If you still have the original CD it will be better quality if you rip that straight to atrac in sonicstage (you can deleate the files from your hard drive after you have transfered if you want to save space).
  24. I have a optical out on my PC and recently tryed to record some music via media player and winamp, however I got a message saying "No Digital Copy". Is there any way to disable this copyright protection without resorting to analogue? I didnt have this problem when I used to copy CD's from my stereo digitally.
  25. After reading this thread I feel I need to invest in some more units!
