  1. Well it worked for me using Sonicstage version 4.0 If you look at http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16088 you'll see how to do it. Cheers
  2. I had that same situation a month or so ago. The easiest way I found was to buy an external hard drive and transfer all my sonicstage files on to it,then simply plug it in to my new computer. Before I did that, I had to use the Sonic stage file conversion tool, and uncheck the 'add copy protection' box. Of course the beauty of keeping all the files on an external drive(with all copy protection removed) is that it'll work on any computer. External hard drives are so cheap to buy nowadays that I feel it is a worthwhile extra expense when you are buying your new computer.
  3. Yeah, The Volta, you are right on everytning. It just intrigues me how the sonicstage software will not perform all the functions that it is supposed to do. I started archiving on to Hi- MD before I had a large computer hard drive, so all my CDs are recorded on Hi- SP 256 kbps.I know that is not lossless, but I can't hear any difference with the source CD's. Since then, I have a 300g external hard drive where I keep all these atrac files, so changing to wma-lossless is not bringing me any benefit that I can see. Sometimes frineds want a copy of something in my collection and it just would be handier if I could burn audio CDs straight from Sonicstage. But it's not a huge deal -like you say, converting to wav files then burning with whatever program gets the same results. Thanks for all your useful input!
  4. Thanks for that, folks. I tried Cleantool on both machines, but it hasn't worked. I am really suprised that there are not other Sonicstage users out there experiencing the same problem. Surely loads of users have Sonicstage and Nero/Roxio /whatever running on the same computer. Very odd! Ah well, back to the drawing board........!
  5. Thanks for that info! Yeah, that's the only thing I can think of that could be the problem. So I uninstalled everything like nero and roxio, then reinstalled Sonicstage ,but it still will not recognize the CD drive. And yet Sonicstage works fine for UPloading CD's. It's only in the writing of CDs that there is a problem. It's just frustrating when a piece of software won't do everything it says it does on the tin! It's times like this when I start to feel treacherous and have a wee peak at the itunes software........but it would still be complete sacriledge to abandon minidiscs in favour of an ipod or whatever.....So the search for a solution goes on......
  6. Sorry to ask again,I posted this query earlier but although it atrracted 50 + viewers,no one was able to come up with a reply. I have two computers, completely independent of each other both running Sonicstage 4.0 under Windows XP. With both of them, when I click on Transfer - Create an Audio CD, I get a message in the centre of the right hand window, where it should say 'Insert a recordable CD', or words to that effect,I get a message saying 'Device/media not connected.' Also under the 'Controls' tab,the 'Create CD' is greyed out. Also in 'Controls' - 'Device/media' , 'Drive Selection' is greyed out. In 'Tools' -Options - Creating a CD' ,The boxes for 'Drive' and 'Writing Speed' are blank. I am racking my brains for a solution.....I thought that perhaps software like Nero might be 'taking over' so I removed it from one of the computers, but alas to no avail. Can someone confirm that they do NOT have this problem with Sonicstage 4.0 ? It seems very odd that I have this problem doubled on two separate computers with two different CD drives. Oh, I can burn CDs from other software like Nero.Windows Media player etc no problem -But I would appreciate the ease of being able to write CD's from atrac files within Sonic Stage, rather than having to go through each track I want to burn and exporting them individually as wav files so I can burn with a different program. I hope I'm making sense! Even if someone can confirm that it works on their computer fine for them, it'll be a little step forwards in finding the solution! Many thanks Colin
  7. Hi there! Yeah, I went down the same route a couple of months ago with a 300 Gig external hard drive. So now I have every single atrac file on that drive and it works perfectly! Just make sure you go to Tools -Options - General -Location to save imported tracks and change the location . Easy as that! Have fun! Cheers Colin
  8. Hi When I try to transfer atrac files on Sonic Stage to a CD-R, I get a message saying 'Device/media not connected'. The transfer and record buttons are greyed out. Yet uploading from a CD to Sonicstage works fine. I was wondering if anyone else came upon this problem, and if any one knew of a solution? I've looked at Tools-options- Creating a CD but the Drive and Writing speed boxes are also greyed out. Thanks Colin
  9. Thanks for that info! So how much faster is transfer speeds with a Sony mp3 player or an I-Pod?
  10. Thanks for that Roamer I have all my 6000+ files backed up on 50+ minidiscs so I will just have to transfer them all again.I was just wondering if there was an easier, quicker way because it takes absolutely ages to do! I thought the new computer with USB 2.0 would speed things up a little, but it is still taking about 45 minutes to transfer a 1 GB disc. I am using a NH- 900 - Would a RH-1 be any faster? Cheers Colin
  11. Hi! I keep all my atrac files on an external 300 gig hard drive. I bought a new computer yesterday and downloaded a fresh copy of Sonic Stage 4.0 and plugged in my hard drive thinking I'd be ready to go. But when i try to play files from my library in Sonic Stage, i get a message saying that I need to connect to the internet to download a license to play the tracks. But when I click on that, all I get is an error message. I was wondering if anyone knew what I need to do to get the files to play on my new PC? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance Colin
  12. I have had a MZ -NH 9OO since last February and it is easily the most used piece of audio hardware I have ever owned. I play in a band so I have many live recordings using the NH 900 both with mics and line in. I also use it to archive my entire CD collection -I currently have about 50 Hi- MD discs. There is no way that I would trust a computer hard drive to be completely safe long term with my music files, so minidisc is ideal for me as it is so durable. I've never yet had a single problem with any of my discs. I use it in the car , when I'm out and about walking -really the unit has had heavy every single day usage for over a year with no problems at all, apart from a slightly sticky menu button. Units like I-Pod don't even come close to minidsc for me in terms of duarabilty and long term archiving solutions. As soon as the new RH- 1 comes out, I'll be grabbing one as I also have hundreds of old style minidiscs just waiting to be archived. I have comitted heavily financially in to the whole minidisc deal so I will be looking to continue with this format for at least another 5 years. It really does blow all the alternatives out of the water -the new machine looks like it will be possibly the best MD yet, so I'll be first in the queue when they come out in the UK! Long live MD!!
  13. Hi -I'm new to this site. I've had a MZ900 for exactly one year now.I use it every single day either in the car, or out and about, or as the main player into my hifi using the line out. SS 3.4 is a big improvement - all these horrible DMR's have gone one and for all ( at least I hope so -havn't tested all the options yet!) Are the 2nd gen minidiscs any improvement over the 1st gens? They don't seem to have a line out on the new models. A minor drawback for me...Does mp3 playback work properly on the new models? Cheers!
