Hello, I have a Sony MD Walkman MZ-NH900 Hi-MD minidisc recorder. I have a 1GB Hi-MD minidisc with music I would like to transfer but have a problem. I have music I recorded through a microphone that I would like to transfer to my PC. The music plays fine when I play through the recorder in SonicStage 4.3. I tried to transfer everything about a week ago and only one folder transfered. When I attempt to transfer, the status bar says "Loading . . . " races to 100% and nothing happens. My walkman is rather beat up and old, hence it could be the walkman. Sometimes I get an error that says the disc is write protected when I try to transfer. Other times it just errors as mentioned above. Do these symptoms sound familiar? Does anyone know where I could get my unit fixed? Also, is there a cheap replacement/means to transfer my music? Thanks in advance!

Would something like the "Ractive Sounds Juice Box" at http://www.minidisc.org/part_Microphone_Accessories.html suffice?

Thanks! However, I swear I remember doing this before without a battery box. If I plug the mic into the preamp, the volume is even lower. Or are you referring to plugging them mic into the line input with the preamp? Thanks again!

Hi, My name is Chris. I have a Sony HIMD mz-nh900 minidisc recorder. I would like to record from the microphone input. I use a Sony ecmds70p microphone. I would like to lower the input volume so the microphone doesn't get overloaded. I tried a cable form Radio Shack at http://www.radioshack.com/product/inStoreAvail.jsp?productId=2102975. However, the volume seem to get reduced too much regardless of the volume level of the cable. I tried experimenting with and without the microphone on my PC and I get the same problem. It would appear that the cable cannot allow the full input volume and cuts the volume down too much. Does anyone have any suggestions? I recall using such a cable with this microphone years ago and not having such a problem. I am looking for a cheap solution if possible. Thanks in advance! Cheers, Chris

Free Data Recovery Service for Sony Hi-MD 1GB
VanJay011379 replied to carinou2005's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
How does this differ from the service offered at http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=19912 Also, do you have any email or phone contact for this Australia contact? I'd hate to just send a disc and get nothing back. -
I'm not recording in PCM but in the next mode. I am using standard minidiscs and can record about 2 hrs and 36 mins in the setting. I think it is HiMD setting.

Hi, I am using Sonic Stage 3.4 to copy files from my HiMD minidisc to my computer to burn to discs. However, I have a question about transferring the files. Before transferring, I looked at the properties box. In the advanced box, it has the opportunity for a bit rate choice. I transferred many at 64kbps. I bumped it up to 352 kbps and didn't notice a a large difference in the spectral view between the 64 kbps and 352 kbps wav files in Exact Audio Copy. Is there a difference in the kbps used? Cheers, Chris

That is what I feared. So SS 3.4 doesn't have this problem?

Hi, I was using Sonic Stage 2.? to upload some audio from my Hi-MD to my PC. The tracks were never moved into the library and are gone both off my computer and minidisc. Question #1) Is there any way to recover these tracks? Also, I noticed the following at http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=6330 Question #2) Does Sonic Stage 3.x still have this problem of trashed uploads? Cheers, Chris

Hi, I have a Sony Hi MD. I have a SONY ECM-DS70P Condenser Stereo Microphone I used for live recording of rock bands. I noticed when I often record, the volume bars are maxed out. I turn down the recording volume but this only seems to record the same input with less volume. I want to limit some of the input volume. I tend to get a scratchy noise when the vocals or guitars are too loud for the microphone. I was reading the tips at the following link. http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showt...amp;#entry49993 What products would anyone recommend to limit the volume and eliminate the scratchy noise? Cheers, Chris

Hi, I used to have a Sony NetMD. I recorded several shows on this device. Now I use a Sony Hi-MD, which I have recorded several shows as well. I was using the Soundforge software to extract some of my Hi-MD recorded recent shows. However, I cannot extract anything I recorded with my former NetMD. Is this expected? Also, what is the best way to extract music from a minidisc recorded with a NetMD?

I actually recorded these with a NetMD but now have a Sony MZ-NH700.

Hi, Is there any way to copy the left channel of a mono recording to the right side on a NetMD disc? I recorded a couple of shows with a mono microphone and I would like to copy the left speaker to the right side so I can listen in stereo (kinda). Any solutions? Cheers, Chris

Thanks! Can you use regular MDs on a HI-MD recorder? I may need to purchase one soon and I have a few extra regular MDs around. Also, I noticed an NH900 at http://tinyurl.com/mt7ok and approx 16 hours left. A NH700 is available at http://tinyurl.com/mcr45 with a bid of $41 and approx 16 hours left What makes the NH900 that much better? Finally, is it trustworthy to but from an eBay seller. The seller here says its new but is it trustworthy? The feedback would indicate the seller is ok. Thanks for everyone's help.

So I can just upload the songs from my recordings to PC without having to go through the sound card? I didn't know this feature was so readily available.
