Hello jim, thanks mate, where are you based? I'm thinkinung if you can have a look at my r900??, p.s did you get my pm to you about my 333es?? Thanks Aaron

Hello Stephen, correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the battery connections could cause the problems I'm having, ie how could that make the buttons on the front panel do each others functions and make the machine randomly jump, so I have to gently tap it to make it go again ( it almost sounds like it losses track or focus on the disc), these faults also have when on either internal battery, external AA or mains power, I'm written to Jim a few times about this and my 333es and thus far no reply, thanks Aaron

Hello I have an mz-r900 it works fine most of the time but every now and then whilst playing it will skip and I can hear the laser moving back and forth and I have to gently tap the machine to get it to work, so I'm not sure if the laser is out of alignment or so or starting to be faulty, but the main issue is also this happens every now and then too, all the buttons on the front panel seem to make the machine do random things and the buttons often do each others functions, ie u press vol+ and it will skip tracks, record mode will write a track mark, skip track will pause and so on, what could this be?, it's 9 years old who would have parts or could help me fix my mz-r900, thanks p.s finally is there any know cheats or hacks for it that will allow extra functions?? Thanks Aaron

Hello Stephen, how do I get into service mode of the machine just to have a look at settings; do you know what the laser output setting should be etc.., and do you know where I can get a copy of the service manual for a 333es from?, do you have a copy I could down load etc.... Thanks Aaron

Thanks Steven, no none get hot, they ever slightly get warm though, just from the heat of the rest of the machine, even when recording they are still quite warm, never hot, this applys to all my machines, thanks again Aaron

Thanks Steven, I still await jims reply, btw the cleaning discs are both Sony ones, that work in all my machines and even 333es before it's new parts went in.....odd. Thanks again Aaron

U must get paid crap money in USA if you think $900 is expensive!, I got a mds-ja333es for $900 AUD actually, but in Australia the RRP for the 333es was $3999!!!! Let alone the 555es!!!!! Btw what is the difference between the two other than the fact the 555es can't do mdlp??? Aaron

Update: my machine all of the sudden now will play pre-mastered minidiscs but still won't play lense cleaner (pre mastered) nor will it play the head cleaner (recordable) so these two discs have reflective properties of both of the same nature of discs with music on them that the machine will play, so I don't think it's an issue about the power out put of the laser foe each type of disc since recordable and other pre mastered discs play fine, it seems to point that the two cleaning discs them selves are faulty.....except they both work in two other MD decks and portables I have, and they both worked on my machine before it broke down and had the record head and laser assy changed.. Please, any help, this is killing me, I don't want my 333es go to waste. Thanks Aaron

Hey thanks I emailed Jim got no response any one else u think might be able to help me? Thanks again Aaron

Hello all, I had a mds-ja333es that just has it's laser and record head replaced, the machine works great but it will not play/read any laser and or head cleaning discs, and every now and then won't play pre-mastered minidiscs, but ALL blanks/recordable discs work play/record fine, I took it back and the techs said they can not do any thing about it, they are not specialized in minidisc and there is one in my area that is, any help??, could it be allignment issue or it for what ever reason does not like pre-mastered discs due to the reflective surface is different; well this does not explain why a head cleaner, (to which you record) also does not work, any ideas??, thanks Aaron

What about the new MZR-H1? can it do Mp3 and what do you mean by these models handeling Mp3's natively or are compatible with Mp3? thank you, Aaron....

I was still wondering if there is any sort of hack or firmware upgrade available that can be done to my ES, MDS-JA333ES Minidisc deck, to remove SCMS so I can digitaly record other minidiscs? thank you, Aaron.....

It is the main control board in the player, I have an MZR-900 and it does the same thing, by the sounds of it, yours is a HiMD not just MD, so a new board will be easily found, I am going to get mine fixed too, most authorised Minidisc repairer places will have spare control boards from other machines that have been written off from other causes, or it may cost about $50 bucks for a new board, which will come off the fee to have the player looked at any way, yeah so it is or (would) be its main board, I don't know why some models do this, my brother had a MZN-10 that done the same thing...... my MZR-900 is an old 2001 model, running ATRAC 4.5, it still works grate, I had to put in a new laser because I sprayed the wrong cleaning sh*t into it and it stuffed the laser, but other than that when I skip tracks it will either: write a track mark, skip backwards, not skip nowhere, or restart the song I was at.....It can also be its matrix board????? your not alone mate, but its worth getting it fixed, because you will soon realise how much better a Minidisc player is compared to a poxy iPod......... Dexter.......

Hello, does any one know if it is possible to upgrade the ATRAC version on my MDS-JA333ES to type "S"? My MDS-JA333ES has type "R" and my MDS-JB980 has type "S", but I would like to know if I can get an ATRAC type "S" chip put into my MDS-JA333ES for better MDLP quality...... thank you, Aaron.....

mdowner2003, No you can't use HiMD's on your MZN-E410 you will be better off getting a HiMD recorder, it can use HiMD's and normal 180 Mb MD's. Aaron....

I was wondering if the Sony "ES" range minidiscs realy do give better sound or is it just a marketing thing??? are the discs physicaly different or is the disc physicaly the same as a normal sony Minidisc.......?? thank you, Aaron.....

Hey all, (This is not a "HiMD" related topic, it is "MD" bassed) I have the MDS-JA333ES MD deck and I would like to know if it is capable of changing it's bit length from 16 bits to 20 and 24 bits just like the MDS-JA555ES could, via the means of a hack or as firm ware or hard ware upgrade, is there any possible way it can be done???? and also is the any way to allow it to give out 20 bit sound aswell as the 16 and 24 bit it can all ready do like the MDS-JA555ES can also???? thank you, Aaron.....

The fact that the MZ-RH1 will have no external AA battery pack is down right pathetic, for that reason alone i may not get one now, sony has lost yet again another customer, because of sony's greed and stupidity look whats happend to Minidisc! there is or "was" so much potential with the format like MAC and MP3 compatibility from the start and to upload any music to 'and' from the MD and Computer and also HiMD could have existed years ago, because if DVD was possible so would of HiMD; similar technology MD=CD, HiMD=DVD...... and also a decent 8+ Magapixel camera that uses HiMD rather that a poxy 1.3 MP HiMD camera, "WHO WOULD WANT SUCH A HEAP OF CRAP" and why make it only 1.3 MP? because think about it, there are CD-R cameras so why not HiMD cameras because $7 for 1 GB disc is more than excellent opposed to $400 plus for a poxy 1 GB memory stick to save photos onto and think about if you lost that? all that money opposed to loosing a $7 HiMD disc?, its too late to save the format but there is still a change i believe though, if sony heeded my words.....but will they, course not, i am one person, sony's too big for me to speak too or for them to listen to me. The most simple features sony lets go of- like external battery pack, every thing uses AA, what happends if the rechargeable battery becomes obsolete because it's a "Minidisc" thing? 'your stuffed', if you could fall back on a AA you would be fine but thanks to sony you can't and all your left with is a rather expensive paper weight!, you can get AA's from anywhere what amazes me it older models had it so why remove such a simple and very useful feature? Just look what happend to Betamax and DTRS and Digital 8 and UMD and DVD+ format and DAT and now Minidisc these are all formats sony invented and hogged, so no other company was alowed to use them to sell and make a profit and get the formats out there until it was all too late!!!!!!!!!! Aaron.

Does the MZ-RH1 have an external "AA" batery pack to connect onto it? "Please tell me it does" And can it speed up and slow down like the MZ-R900, where the speed AND pitch changes, not just speed????
