Yesterday I retired an old friend of mine, one thats been there for me for 6 yrs, and has never let me down and is still rockin hard to this very day. My little Mini Disc player Its been around for six years going on seven now, and still playing as good & hard as the day i bought it. Its been dropped in snow, on sidewalks, and rocked everywhere from dusty warehouses & nightshifts to delivery vehicles where the roads were so bad it was literally bouncing off the dash and it NEVER missed a beat. It was for over a year known as IPK, 'the ipod killer'. It got this name working while working for the city, and through construction work, heavy labour and rain, snow and summer heat it soldiered on. Meanwhile i-pods were dropping like flies, and after about the 4th one died and my MD was already 5 yrs old and outlasting them all it got the nickname of the i-pod killer. All this and my little MD 600 is going strong to this day. And to be honest, i actually feel very guilty for putting it aside. Its never failed me, done me wrong or missed a beat or screwed up a song. So its with great pride, and a bit of guilt that i finally put it into its well earned retirement as a next gen-player takes its hoveled place. Farewell old friend. Enjoy your retirement. ..... That is.. if you dont out last my new one lol

Hi all My jog wheel finally gave out on me after 4 1/2 years of loyal service, and i was just wondering does anyone know if theres anyway to fix it? :| I'm thinking there probably isnt but i'm hoping cuase my MD's been with me kickn it hard for almost 5 yrs and i dont want to give up on it yet and the rest of it works as good as the day i bought it. So any suggestions would be great Peace!

It is an artform and something i dont mind, but when i'm driving at 120kmph on the highway with semi's and haul trucks coming at me i'd rather not have to do it lol.
-
lol well its exactly what it means in the title i'll explain I'm a VERY firm believer in the age old adeage 'if its not broke DONT FIX IT'! And i've had my NHZ-600 for 3 yrs? 4? I think 4 now, its been that long, and and i drive for a living, at least for the summer so far. And i LOVE my little MD to death i really do. The only tiny thing that bugs me is switching disc's, other then that i love the ole girl! But when your own the road driving and switching disc's at the same time you tend to let out that sigh and think 'God i wish i didnt have to switch disc's.' And i've been heavily thinking about a ZUNE lately, but then then i almost feel like i'm betraying my old faithful little MD as it obliviously and happily pumps out the tunes into my cube truck and happily comes along on my adventures. Since day 1 of people wanting it to being nicknamed IPK for (the i-pod killer) at the city cuase people hated it cuase 5 i-pods broke that summer, to being dropped in snow, and surviving friends kids, and God knows what else i am not remembering, and then i cant do it. I cant buy a ZUNE when my MD works perfectly well. I know its a sick deprived thought that i think in the back of my mind and never speak out loud but i almost wish it might give out on me just so i'd feel guiltless about buying a ZUNE or something lol! Its like wishing death upon your worst enemy and not really meaning it hahaha. I think it will pass....i'm probably only going to be driving for the summer and once thats over my immense need for music will be at and end and it'll be back to normal.... but if i ever wanted to buy something else i have too wait for my MD to give out first. I feel like i owe it that much lol. Its been kickn hardcore for like 4 yrs and never given me a single hic-up of trouble and i cant justify putting her on the backshelf in closet for giving me all those good years trouble free. So its a love hate thing, i never want it to break and never want to stop using it but i want something with more capacity then 1gig per disc but i dont think its ever going to break and i love my MD to much lol. Just a wierd paradox story i thought i'd share Peace all!

Thankyou very much i appreciate the help I've owned it for about 3 or 4 yrs? And lost the manual about 3 days after i owned it lol. Appreciate the reply! Peace

I've owned my nhz 600 for years now and love it Theres 2 things that allude me tho.. 1. The 'download' button. How does this work? Connect it between a cd player and it with USB and it downloads whats playing?? Or? ... And how does it work? Do you play the cd and THEN start the md and hit 'download or ? .... 2. Ok this is something thats annoyed me for awhile. lol. HOW do you get the MD to shuffle the ENTIRE disc?? Not just a group or artist but the whole disc??? I've done it a few times but i think by pure fluke and ALOT of frustration hehe. Do you go2 shuffle when the disc loads before selecting anything at all??? I"ve tried this and sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. Any help would be great. Thanx, peace all (btw not sure if this shouldve gone here but i thought so? ....)

Either way its pretty cool & retro i'll give it that lol!

Cool I live in Canada and i'm toting my MD around on a reg basis in weather up to -35 degree's celcius (not sure what that is in farhenheit if your American) But i just have it inside my jacket, and because of bodyheat alone it never gets cold at all. If u leave it in the car or something i'd definately let it warm up for at least a good 20 min depending on how cold it is. Its gonna be just like a vehicle, try to make things move when they're frozen solid and somethings gonna give lol. Ya dude carrying case is been the key to everything from me, from dropping it and not dmging it, 2 no scratches and looking brand new. If it wasnt for my carrying case between a few little falls and dust in the summer i'm sure my MD would be toast by now haha. GL with the cases. The best ones i found are soft cases that have firm linings. Kinda like not a solid outside shell but one thats really padded. The padding absorbs the cold better and shock then a hard shell. Peace

Hey Karl Well the carrying case i found was in 'the source' (aka Radio Shack) made by BodyGlove. I dont see the exact one i have but i found a link to some for you http://www.minidiscaccess.com/item.html?PRID=1312398 <-- this ones close to mine and is good and sturdy. (the AMD MiniDisc Player Bag - Black one) 7.99 i also found this link for the mainpage they have a ton of cases here and all kinds of neat stuff http://www.minidiscaccess.com/generic.html?pid=20 <--- (minidiscaccess.com) Great page! http://www.amazon.com/Duracell-Rechargeabl...0/dp/B000255IUA <--link to Duracell rechargeables A few tips i stuck by thats made my MD stay alive for 3 yrs... 1. if its cold outside (i live in Canada) and you left your MD in the car or something..let it warm up for a bit. 2. ALWAYS carry it in the carrying case. Prevents damage, and especially dust from getting into the MD, and absorbs shock etc. 3.Get a carrying case with a belt clip. ALOT harder to fall off belt then out of pocket & onto the road etc. 4.Carrying case, i cant stress that enough, mines 'always' in its carrying case and it literally looks brand new still. People dont believe its 3 yrs old. The case alone will probably save your MD from just about everything if its decent. Shock, breaking, dust, water, snow etc lol. Other then that if u have an older MD like me get rechargeable batteries. I bought 4 rechargeable batteries, DURACELL rechargables, and it came with the charger for only 29.99. That way u can tote your MD around and even have a spare batter in yur pocket just in case and no more wasting money on batteries. Mine lasts for about 8 hours on one rechargeable Duracell. Hopefully this helps. Its just what i do so it might not work for everyone but hopefully this and that link above helps. Just google 'MD carrying cases' if u want to find more. Peace

Well, to give a brief overview and start this off, i've had my MD-1600mhz (think thats what its called) for 3 yrs now, and its been on roads so rough it was literally 'bouncing' off the dashboard, its been through -40 degree's CELCIUS winters (i just have it inside my jacket and its just happy as can be) and 'ive dropped it in snow, and God knows what else, and its LIVES ON This is the same MD from one of my other threads 'the IPK (ipod killer, about my MD during summer job when 3 i-pods broke and my MD chugged on all summer long in outdoor work and irritated people lol) All i can say is well, damn. My little MD's been through hell and back and is still rockin as hard as they day i got it 3 yrs ago. All it takes is a little common sense and a good carrying case and these things can survive anything short of a nuclear fallout lol. Thats the only reason i never have and will get an i-pod, everyone i know thats ever owned an i-pod is on there SECOND or THIRD i-pod. No thanx. I dont know if they'll ever make a higher capacity MD, but until they do, i'll be just fine jammin away with the one i got And if they dont, oh well, 1gig per disc is just fine with me cuase i have one in it and 2 in my carrying case so 3gig's of music compressed at 92k rate per song is between 450-500 songs per disc for me, and thats plenty for me! Peace

Hi all, was just wondering if anyone had heard anything from Sony regarding a possilbe MD BlueRay player? The have talked briefly about it and i have to find the link again but they speculate that one BRMD disc would hold 12.5gig per disc IF made So imagine if they do that and dual layer them? That'd be 25 gig a disc! lol But anyways... Does anyone know if they're actually even seriously considering making a BRMD? I hope so I still love my little MD 1600hz to Death and its still truckin and kickn for over 3 yrs now and i cant stand i-pods cuase they brake to easily. If anyones heard anything it'd be great to know either way peace!

Ok, hey guys before i get into this i need to do a little intro. I MYSELF hated ICP for over 10 yrs till a few weeks ago when i actually started listening to them. I myself am a thorough metalhead in my late 20's and to even listen to RAP is...well my friends are baffled. lol. I Listen to Hatebreed, Slayer, Lamb of God, Threat Signal etc, but anyways on to the thread here.. I started listening to ICP a few weeks ago and i dont even remember why. Now ya soon after i re-discovered how many people 'hate' ICP. And ya thats all good i'm all about free opinions and expression but what i really dont understand is why? I mean sure i could see if ICP were serious, but i mean come on, they dont even take themselves seriously lol. I believe Violent J put it best when he said "How can anyone think we're serious when i'm up on stage singing with fukn clown make-up all over my face?" and LOL thats true. I asked a guy at work, who is a complete moron why he didnt like ICP, and he said becuase the lyric's were crap, and derogitory. OK, yes granted they are, but again who takes it seriously? And theres been MUCH worse rapped and sung then ICP has ever done. Altho they are a great band which i loved RATM was far more dangerous then ICP becuase they're lyrics were supporting political movements etc. They're fan base? Juggalo's as they're called, have actually gotten a bad rap. Jacob D. Robida was a self proclaimed Juggalo that went on a killing spree but he was also a neo-nazi, ICP promptly tho dencounced this action and violence and racism. They are serious when they have to be be. Article is here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_D._Robida And the six joker cards actually are lessons. A few explanations of a few etc. are as follows. THE GREAT MILENKO: Is someone that forces someone to look at someones inner illusions of themselves that justify the bad actions they take. THE JECKEL BROTHERS: Jack Jeckel juggles one ball for every one of someones sins while Jake throws in ones that are commited their after, thus the balance of the soul. Each card actually has a positive meaning behind all the BS in the albums. Me myself i dont like rap but i find they rap SLOWER and i can understand ICP and the big part is i get a laff out of them? So just asking why so many people hate on such a harmless band? Thats all.

Pata: Yes with a little common sense and a good carrying case i find my MD's taken the beats over the course of 3 entire years. My rides been so rough at work its literally 'bouncing' off the dash in its case but it never skips a beat and still works like the day i bought it

Is there ANY disc's out there that hold more then 1 gig??? i'm almost 100% positive theres not But what sparked a little hope deep down inside me is that i have seen 5gig disc's that are the same size that were for camera's or something??? Not sure exactly what they were for but they were mini-disc's and they were 5gig capacity so i was hoping and praying that maybe they might actually put out higher density MD?? Btw anyone heard any word on if Sony is even thinking about making an MD blue-ray player?? I've read its possible and they're thinking about it but thats all i've heard.
