  1. I'm a little late replying on the subject of the MD transfer 2.0 for Mac...it isn't working out at all. As the instructions go, I deleted the ver. 1.0 and downloaded 2.0. It works sort of, but only to download to the Mac and nothing else. Meanwhile, I want to compress the sound files to mpegs rather than wav so I can email them. Apparently this requires additional software than comes with my version of OSX 10.4.11. Being barely literate computer-wise, I would be thankful for some suggestions. The purpose behind this effort is to share some recordings with a friend who is blind. She lives on a small island and to share the sounds available here in the USA as well as elsewhere I have travelled would open her world. One thing I have in mind is to make more binaural recordings. I have an old JVC set that I put a 1/8 miniplug on to attach to the mic input--not the greatest but it is fun, as it has a headphone so when you are using it, and play it back, it's just about impossible to tell if you are recording or hearing what is going on around you in real time. Like, is that a train going by now, or did it already? Kind of digressing here. Anyway if I could have some advice as to what I need, it would be great. thanks
  2. I use my MD MZ RH1 to record practice sessions (cello, viole da gamba). I sometimes record the bass line of a duet piece and then listen to it from the MD to practice the melody, or have a partner record one or the other parts for my use. This is a tremendously helpful use of this machine. Oftentimes, the recordings are made at different times and become spread out across multiple groups and finding them is not always easy to do. It can be very inconvenient to shuffle the tracks around with the RH1's editing facility. I would like to be able to download these tracks to the Mac, rename them, and remix them to either the same disk or another one to make these recordings more useful and practical. I have tried to upload tracks to the MD but have not been able to do so. It would be great to be able to make playlists as well of pieces of music to listen to for enjoyment as well without having to use the time-consuming analog method, besides which, being able to easily build playlists would make the device much more versatile and enjoyable. Is there software to accomplish this--or have I just been unable to find it in the Mac SonicStage?
  3. I must not understand something basic. I have this notion that I could set up groups by entering a titles for them in advance, then add tracks to the groups without having to name each track's group name again, just the track titles. So if I wanted to record a bunch of something or other, they'd all be together in a prenamed group, and later, when I get to another type of sound to record, I'd simply fill tracks to that group, and so on. That seems like such a more organized way to work than trying to remember which group number has which category of recording in it, then go through a laborious ordeal of adding group names and track titles later on, sorting them all out, even on a computer. If there was a way to set up a structure in the computer that could be downloaded onto a disk that I want to record to, that of course would do away with all the button-pushing on the remote. But I don't know at all how to do that. Maybe I don't need to do it anyway, since I could just do what I used to do before my cassette recorder finally gave up the ghost (pencil and paper). Any suggestions, opinions, comments etc. are welcome. It's all part of the fun of learning.
  4. Well, using a keyboard would be faster if I had one with me, and thanks for the tip, but I'd still like to be able to do it on those occasions when carrying a computer would not be desireable, such as on a trip somewhere. Also, I'd just like to try it out for fun, to learn more about the machine, and then see if it would be useful to me in practice.
  5. Just got the RH 1 and read through the manual, which kind of explains how to enter track titles (I managed to do it somehow). But how to enter group names and artist? I think I tried pressing all the buttons, twisting the volume control on the remote, etc in all sorts of random combinations. I'm new to the MD format and the machinery, which I think I'm going to like a lot once I get the hang of it. Thanks
