  1. I think if you press 'pause' first - and then hit f/f, it will go a LOT faster.

To the topic starter, no, that is one of the main weaknesses of the jog dial walkman. And to "juli", no, if you do that you'll skip the song. You're referring to the players after the S70x series.

  2. Same here on my A808 and A829.

I guess Sony assumed we wouldn't want to check free space without hooking up to a pc first!

And the same can be said for the S61x series (I have the S616F). No free space information on the unit.

  3. Well, yeah, you've kind of reassured me, so hopefully everything IS okay with my mp3 player. I doubt that they'd exchange the mp3 player just because it says 80% there, though. Oh, do you perhaps have any experiences with exchangin/buying the new battery, when the old one starts to lose it's efectiveness?

No, my old E507 which is about 3 years old still works like a charm and the battery still lasts as advertised in 2005.

  4. Oh, OK then. Mine says 80% through the whole charging process, even when it says full on the player, so I kind of figured that that indicator may be indicating the battery's overall condition and not the current fullness of the battery.

Well if you feel like it could be malfunctioning you can always change it at the store. I for one never used Properties on Windows to check up the battery so this was something new for me, but I'm sure your player's okay.

  5. Thanks for the fast reply. Could you check, when you have the time, though, what does it say when you right click on properties (where it says 80% for mine), since I have this strange feeling regarding the battery. And I tried charging the battery to full and it was "full" in about 2 hours, when it says it should be 3hrs for full and 1,5hrs for 80%. So yeah, there's all kinds of conclusions running in my head due to these 2 "coincidences".

Mine says 100% cuz...well I charged it through the PS3 while copying songs to the dap (and don't trust Windows, trust the player's indicator, that's why it's there). Those are approximate times to charge the battery and can also vary due to humidity, temperature and that stuff. I'm sure your unit isn't malfunctioning.

  6. Hi!

The first one is this. When I plug in my mp3 player, everything works like it should, the problem is, though, it doesn't show in that green arrow icon, that's used for "safe removing" and pops up, when you plug in a USB device. So there's no way to safely remove my mp3 player.

And the second question regards the battery.I kind of have a feeling all isn't as it should be, since the battery shown on the player falls on 3/4 really quickly, much quicker than it need to fall from there to 1/2 or from there to 1/4.

Maybe I am overworried, but I would still be grateful for any feedback.

Oh, and what benefits do I have from registering as a user on Sony's website?

I have the S616 version and yep you are overworried. You can unplug the player safely as long as it doesn't say "Don't Disconnect" message on the screen so no worries there. About the battery...that can vary. It depends on the bit rate, which audio format is used, brightness setting, if equalizer, clear stereo/bass, dynamic normalizer, DSEE...and if other stuff are used or not. The battery is very good in my opinion but I grew used to the 50 hour battery of Sony's past MP3 players (such as E505 and S705F) so I miss that feature. Relax and enjoy the great battery/sound your dap is providing to you. About the registering benefits I don't know because I've never registered mine lol.

  7. I may have to take mine back anyway. When I had Vista on my PC, it worked perfectly. It still works perfectly on my wife's PC and our PS3, BUT it will connect to my PC for about 10 seconds and then disconnect. I bought a USB 2.0 card thinking it was my PC's internal USB ports...no dice. Something is going on with XP and I have no clue what to do....grrrr.

I once had some issues with my NWZ-S616F player, didn't want to connect at all through USB. I suspected it was something related to Windows Media Player 11 so I downloaded it again and re-installed it and the player worked again. Try reinstalling WMP11 from microsoft.com, hope this helps.

  8. My recommended settings are: CB+3 (or 2) 10113 (or 20113). I'm using the first one on my EX90SL earphones, very clear, detailed sound with a booming bass.

Edit: I listen to Rock and Industrial music.

  9. *sigh* I still keep hearing more and more issues with the S70x series. Mine began by not outputting any sound on the right channel unless you played a bit with the headphone jack.....weeks later the left channel was dead (now with no sound at all) and I do take good care of my stuff. Something tells me these series are just plagued with issues (not all of em I know). I just bought the NWZ-S616F (black) and haven't looked back...well...sort of, I just miss the recording function along with Noise Canceling (although the last one can be solved).

  10. Thanks,

Is the quality that much improved over an HD5 or NW-E507? I would bet the headphones would almost make it worth the price. Especially since I use Shures. I could sell the headphones to cover half the cost. :D

Being an owner of both the E507 and the S705F, I can say it is a big improvement in the soundstage. The sound's clearer, warmer and fuller. The earbuds that the player comes with are very good (they have a punchy bass) but I prefer the clarity of the EX90 earbuds (although these don't have the punchy bass pretty much).

  11. 1/ There has not been an update for SonicStage for ages (6 months+)

As a bonus, I would finally be able to plug my NW-A300 into my PS3, and play the music from it. Why can't I at the moment? As the left arm at Sony does not talk to the right Arm. That sucks.

Well that's true, even the Connect website says "New SonicStage 4.3". About the PS3, like Max said earlier in this thread, enable ATRAC on Settings. My PS3 can play music from my NW-S705F like a charm.

  12. NW-00x series have very noticable hiss. However, you might find on sale quite cheap. 1 biggest annoyance is that the unit lost resume position after charging with an AC adaptor.

So true, even more so than the S70x series which is leagues better sound-wise in my opinion.

  13. Are you sure about the NW-E700 series being discontinued. I know that the NW-E600 series is no longer sold in most parts of the world, however the 700 is still available. Oh well that is life.

True, yesterday I went to the Sony Store here in Puerto Rico and both the S600 and S700 series are available for sale which means they are not yet being discontinued (at least not here).

  14. Phew! That also happened to me using the original earphones, in less than 2 months one night the left channel's volume lowered while the right channel was fine. Unplugged the thing, reset the player and then the same problem was still there until 3 minutes later. The LC (left channel) hasn't given me any problems after that night. It fixed by itself....I think lol.

  15. I think it's the way Sony MP3 players organize music and because of the DRM on it. But you know, I think Sony can fix this with a firmware update that lets the PS3 access Walkman's (and every other Sony DAP) files...so who knows, guess we'll have to wait. Please note that I don't have a PS3 (maybe it already plays Walkman files I don't know), but I intend to get one this month if everything goes alright. Another nice thing would be if the PS3 would play ATRAC Advanced Lossless files.
