  1. Actually I've just purchased the MZ-RH1. I was hoping the MZ-S1 could be easily fixed but I'm not willing to spend much, certainly not $100. Anyways I find if I slide the write-protect tab over the discs seem to be safe....for now anyways. thanks.
  2. This is a strange one. I have had an MD Walkman MZ-S1, sport model for several years now. It has a multi-function joystick type operation. Well for some unknown reason when I move the joystick to "play" I now get a "blank disc" message. I've put the disc in my MD deck and sure enough it is blank! For some reason the unit is malfunctioning and erasing full discs when I go into play mode. Anyone heard of this problem before? I have dropped the unit a few times in its history which might have contributed to its possible demise. Can the firmware be reprogrammed to normal working status? Any suggestions? thanks, Walt
  3. I'm almost ready to purchase a Sony MZ-R1 but there may be one last hangup. I thank everyone for previous replies related to transferring recorded radio programs to my Mac. I record a 4 hr. late-nite radio program on my Sony MDS JB940 Deck and I add track marks as I listen to these programs to eventually delete out commercials. My question is: can I add track marks to an MD recorded disc on a Sony MZ-R1? Thankyou!

Yes. I meant the radio programs. One more question. I am recording the radio programs with my MDS-JB940 Deck (which works with a timer) onto MD media. If I'm playing the MD disc on ...say the MZ-RH1 do I still have editing capabilities. I input trac marks frequently as bookmarks. This is important to know.

    Hi-MD + Mac

Thanks for the info! Currently my Mac is an older G4 but next year I'm hoping to upgrade to one of the new Intel Chip Macs. If I had one of the new Intel chip Macs could I then "boot" the computer in "windows" OS and upload the MD files? Would the audio programs then be available when I boot in the normal "Mac" OS? Realtime dubbing is so time consuming.

    Hi-MD + Mac

Hi. New member with a question I’m hoping someone can answer. I’m sure someone at Sony support can answer this but finding that person or persons may not be easy. So I’m posting this to the “real” users. I currently have a Sony MDS-JB940 Minidisc deck which I use every nite to record a late nite radio show as well as music. I also have a Sony MD walkman MZ-S1 which I use for portable playback primarily. I have a library of MD’s that I would like to upload to my Mac computer so as to keep a digital archive of these radio shows on my Mac. My MZ-S1 cannot upload. From what I’m reading about the Hi-MD units is that I can upload files from an Hi-MD portable unit to my Mac ONLY if they are recorded in Hi mode. So my question is can I dub my MD recorded radio shows from my MDS-JB940 Deck to one of the Hi-MD portable units such as the MZ-RH1 and have the new recording in Hi mode so that I can then upload to my Mac? If so which Hi models will do this for me? I’d rather not have to buy the top of the line unit if I don’t have to. After all the files are recorded from talk radio and I don’t have a need to upload music to my computer from my walkman. Thanks, Walt
