Hey Smokey, The MZ-E(?) series are players only , The MZ-E620 or 7** series have GREAT battery life ( they are also MDLP compatible ) But I even have an old MZ-E33 that matches the Blue of my MZ-R50 , SP only mode units , I completely understand the CD Straight to MD thing , over half of my collection is exactly that . The NH1 , continues to impress me , Playing thru my Digital monitors now , Line out setting , I can hear certain things , that I wasnt paying attention to before . I Really like how the NH1 feels

If you record using the Optical out of your Macbook , you will have this problem ::: Optical out on the Mac is seen as a steady stream , No Track breaks , No track info , just a Stream , so you wont get track marks in between your tracks If you record analouge out and your MD is set right , then in the Blank spaces between tracks a track mark will appear on the MD (Most of the time , the noise has to drop below a threshold , for a certain time period for it to do so , sometimes it misses) SP would be fine , The Way an MD records , will ( To my ears anyway ) help correct some of the " MP3 Syndrome " Anything in MP3 already has crap in it , it is just part of the compression of MP3 , it is much better now than what it USED to be . A few years ago MP3 was just the fascination of being ABLE to shrink a file and still listen to it , sound quality had very little to do with it . Now the Coding has gotten much better , but still .......... ATRAC will sort out its OWN frequency pattern when recording WHATEVER is coming into it , and a lot of related noise in an MP3 is seen as just that Noise , and ATRAC filters some of it out . ( I have had this experience on MANY occasions , where a not so great MP3 sounded a LOT better after I recorded it on my MD , Playing back thru my digital monitors A-> B comparison of both , I could here the difference ( we are talking 128 kbs mp3 here , your at 256 so dont worry about it)

In my New to Me MZ-NH1 ( I love the way this one feels in my hands ,I wish the RH1 was like this in design, just with a standard USB instead of the proprietary) The first disc Play through my new NH1 was "Earthsongs" a Narada Collection http://www.legalsounds.com/download-mp3/va...ngs/album_38978 A very nice audio journey ( Update : now morning , And have played the same discs 4 times , right now in my Digital monitors as the sun comes up and life starts , and .......A real nice way to start the morning ) I love this NH1 !!

They are starting to show up , here is a Sony Outlet down in Akasaka that had some MD stuff they are clearing out ( NH3D - and others , I didnt have time to write them down ,Wife was with me , she hates gadjets)

Ahh I get you now your Aussie arent you , Just a communication pattern , Specs on Sony stuff , are fairly accurate , even a bit conservative on the older stuff , they were understated . The Newer stuff tends to get blown out of proportion , so I know where your coming from . No Worries mate

Went to Hardoff today ......... Ya'll know what that means !!!!!! Found a pristine Technics SL1200 MK4 , ......... Now I just have to find someone to buy the dang thing ....... Also on my own side , found a very nice condition MZ-NH1 with all goodies , but no box . That almost completes the Sony Collection MZ-1 -> Mz-R50 -> MZ-N1 -> MZ-NH1 -> MZ-RH1 The First , The best , The first Net Md , The First HiMD , The Last HiMD .......... Cool ( I have others , but that is the lineup I want to keep)

If none of you have ever heard the SONY TC-D5M cassette deck ( yes I said Cassette) then you really do not have a true appreciation yet for " What has come before" MD is the Best consumer invention they ever made. Pro's use it even though it was made for the consumer , Where does the iPod fall in that catagorie ,...... It Doesnt , it is mearly another tool of Instant gratification , versus Quality of Production . Back to the TC -D5M ,...... Quality of Production ........ If you listren to NPR , or National Geographic , or PBS , or Battlefield News , Safari expeditions , many movie soundtracks , and the list goes way on and on and on , .......then you have heard this deck ....... TAPE , pure ANALOUGE , and Truely Amazing....... MD brought some of that to the consumer , Analouge inputs ,....... Analougish sound quality with no noise , Cant put your finger just exactly on why it sounds better , it just does , sound quality . It was from a time period before the Instant Gratification of Downloading whatever your heart desired . With MD it was MADE to SOUND GOOD , ......... It wasnt designed as a downloader , that was an afterthought ..........way after . You really need to hear the thunderstorm I recorded on my TC-D5m with my AT-822 Stereo Mic . But I am keeping that recording for myself !!!!!

Are you sure they were NEW discs ? if they werent sealed , they werent new , upon occasion the format error happens in HiMD mode , try reformatting the HiMD disc then record something on it , You go into the menu to do that

well the DMd-F100 , was 2001 , so quite likely it is a recent model Denon doesnt change models as fast as Panasonic or Kenwood ( oops ,I blinked WOW whats that ?) I would guess the 102 is probably 2006 or so maybe later

It isnt a connecting ribbon , It is a piece of Scotch Tape folded over with the screws inside . I had to look at it fairly closely but that is what it is A common practice , I do that myself when I am repairing something

well that says something about Vista doesn't it, SS had it's own inherent problems , but everyone was happy to work around them , along comes "Vista " Vista= "View " ........To see or Not to see ,..... That is the question .! I am on a Mac , but I know windows , and XP was fine , they shouldn't have messed with it , nor discontinued it . Sorry your having this issue . But now it sounds like driver corruption , and or Conflict , and that could take awhile to sort out

Yeah , if he recently Updated Windows , then the security settings of Vista may have changed the access protocol for SS , and Rich is right , you would have to add SS to the DEB to , "TELL " Vista that the prog is OK to use

Without the qualified equipment there isnt a way to fix it , if it isnt "Fixable" ....... If the seller has No source for Fixing , and Says it is Fixable , then it is a falsehood , if the seller just doesn't understand , then it is , then it is lack of common sense Take your pick
