defdex
Hey wonderful knowledgable people!! I've recently bought a NH700 HiMD player/recorder.. I'm totally in love with it, enjoyin just about everything on it at the moment, and lovin the 1gb discs (even if they are in short supply in the UK).. ANYWAY.... My only gripe is that after handing over £200 of my hard earned cash, i find out that this super-dooper model, not only lacks a backlit screen on the main unit, but also comes with a no-display remote control. So I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of an LCD Backlit replacement? The only thing is, i'm after someone who's ALREADY done it, and attached it to the MZ-NH700, just so i don't go buying somethin that doesn't work when it arrives. I have found this remote, over at audiocubes: http://www.audiocubes.com/product_info.php...261648abce43bd7 Which says: Corresponds with all Hi-MD walkman: MZ-NH1/NH3D/EH1 But... I don't understand the way they've listed the models... Does the MZNH700 fit into that description? or could this have been written before the 700 was released? I'm very confused by it all. I just wanna be able to use my MD in the dark! Thanks in advance for any info people! Defdex.
Christopher
Welcome to the forums. That remote will indeed work with the NH700, but I cannot guarentee that all functions will work properly.
mutant1345
i heard that it works with all i-md units but you might as wellget the 33el remote unless three lines are vital cause what they mean by the listed models probly means that recording function and things like that are only supported on the remote when its plugged into the player im not even sure if all three lines are used when you use it with an earlier model...... defdex
ok, that's cool, thanks for the info so far ppl... but is there anyway i can find a list of what functions work and don't on that remote? the three-line's aren't essential, but i'm more than happy to pay the extra to get them... and let's be honest... it's SOOOO much sexier than the 33EL. anyway, there must be SOMEONE out there that's bought a UK version of the MZ-NH700, and tried it out with one of those swanky 3line remotes?? anyone??? p.s. thanks for the welcome Kurisu, so far i'm pretty damned impressed, a very nice little forum!! defdex
Here's the same model using the funky remote: http://mp3.zol.com.cn/2004/0901/117299.shtml But sadly, my chinese reading skills are somewhat lacking.
defdex
So, sorry to hark on about this... But... Has anyone with a UK NH700, managed to try the 3line remote control on their setup... and if so, what functions/buttons work? Else I'll have to grab one of those 33EL remotes offa eBay. martin_il
I own two HI MD players : the NHF 600 and the NHF 800 (which has Its original remote tuner), but I bought the backlit (3 line) remote from Audio Cubes Inc. and It works perfectly with Both. At least, with the products That I bought (In the USA). I have No problems at All. Greetings from Chicago.
defdex
okay martin, thanks for that, that gets me ones step closer... just can't beleive that there's no UK bought NH700's out there, that've had AudioCubes 40ELK remote tried with them... I asked the useless staff in my local Sony shop if i could try a remote from the NH1 in my NH700, and they almost had a heart attack... "no, sorry, there's no way we can do that!". i emailed sony support, and they didn't even seem to think that it'd be possible to get the 11EL or 33EL to work with my model, which i know it does, because i've heard from people who've done it. i'm on the verge of giving up, and just getting a 33EL, but i know someone'll post the answer five minutes after i've bought it! *grumble* anyone? RichM
My only gripe is that after handing over £200 of my hard earned cash, i find out that this super-dooper model, not only lacks a backlit screen on the main unit, but also comes with a no-display remote control. If you want frills like a backlit 1-line or 3-line remote, you have to buy the top of the line model. Omitting some features keeps the price of the low end models down, and also adds an incentive for buying the high-end models. The only Sony MD portable with a back-lit main display was the MZ-S1 'sports' portable. I could wrong here though, but generally not even the high-end models have a back-lit main display. Another thing is, a wise consumer always researches prospective purchases so as to limit unpleasant surprises. I have found this remote, over at audiocubes: http://www.audiocubes.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=6&products_id=981&osCsid=6d9c33f8ddcd79c90261648abce43bd7 Which says: Corresponds with all Hi-MD walkman: MZ-NH1/NH3D/EH1 Woah, overkill. Why didn't you get an NH1 in the first place? Getting remotes aftermarket is incredibly pricey. Wouldn't a MC33EL or MC35ELK from Audiocubes do instead. But... I don't understand the way they've listed the models... Does the MZNH700 fit into that description? or could this have been written before the 700 was released? I'm very confused by it all. I just wanna be able to use my MD in the dark! These are the models that this remote is supplied with (usually). As for compatibility amongst MD units and remotes, my MC40ELK works fine on my hopeless N10, which is the previous generation Sony high-end model. It'll almost certainly work to some degree on yours it's just a question of how much. Don't bother asking Sony Centre staff anything, they're just there to hover round custumers and try and flog stuff to them at rediculous prices. Hmmm well, I thinks it's best if you get a MC33EL or a MC35ELK, to minimize your risk, plus these I find are superior ergonomically to the otherwise superior MC40EL(K). But this is my personal opinion.
