doclloyd
Now that I'm slowly entrenching myself into the world of Hi-MD, I'm thinking up ways the format can be improved and they can support it outside of the portable player/recorder. Obviously, the ideal would be a deck to hook up to your existing stereo system. Here's what my deck would have: * CD (5-CD ala the MXD-D5C I have)/MD combo deck - easy recording of CD's to MD without the need for a computer. Of course support MD and Hi-MD formats for recording. * Keyboard input for titling * Analog/Optical in & out * USB connection for those who would have this near his/her PC :-) Would make for easy uploading of recordings, even if they're recorded off a portable. Oh, and easy downloading too... * Video output to TV... here's my thought here and it would likely be useless to most everyone: Have a video output for basic, but fun, screen visualizations as the music plays. Or use the data portion of Hi-MD and let it play audio files (MP3, WAV, etc.) off the disc. (I wonder if this would confuse people...) Heck, maybe even play mpg's, avi's, etc. too! But wait, this deck is for audio mainly... ;-) I'm sure I could think of more... what else would you want in a Hi-MD deck? What would you improve on in my list? Kaotic
hmm, very interesting * encode and decode SACD, DVD-Audio. and on the data portion. maybe storing some movie clips from Blu-Ray DVD or HD-DVD, and backward compatibility to current DVD
KJ_Palmer
* Coaxial / optical digital inputs/outputs (& line in/out) Also (to match my current std MD setup): A truly high end MD only deck (a la MDS-JA555ES/JA333ES, or at least QS level, like JB940) A MD-MD deck (a la MDS-W1) for duplication/defragmentation... Oh well, we can all dream...
doclloyd
To dream is the beauty of this thread. I agree with having a Hi-MD pro deck only. I could definitely see the usefulness for studios, radio stations, etc. Plus, PCM level recording built into a stereo system would be sweet. highlandsun
Yeah, I'd be happy with a JB980-equivalent to replace my JB920. USB, etc...
jadeclaw
Like this one: Plus USB, plus PS/2 connector for a keyboard, minus the DRM/SCMS crap.
Christopher
The Hifidelio: With the ability to accept Hi-MD's, of course. [feature list of this AMAZING unit, here.]
doclloyd
Wow, that unit is impressive. Now, compatibility with SS (or just audio from a PC in general) would be sweet. It's a great-looking unit too. You don't actually have one of these, kurisu, do you?
skyther
Yeah, also note how it features AirTunes compatibility and has a GUI that looks so much like an, uh, iP**
Christopher
Now, compatibility with SS (or just audio from a PC in general) would be sweet. Re-read the feature list. It does everything you've mentioned, and much much more. Not too sure about SS compatibility, though. :whatever: The Hifidelio comes out in November. I'm buying one.
