watcher666
Hi I have recently purchased an MZ-N10 (to replace my R90). I also have an MDS-JB940 home deck which i think sound's fantastic  My question is, Which do you think is best for recording? The JB940 or N10? I only ever use "SP" and have no interest in "LP". I record in real-time optically from my CD player. The N10 is a newer unit, so im guessing it has a newer ATRAC, but i've heard and read in hi-fi magazine's that the MiniDisc Deck's (JB940) alway's have superior sound quality! Has anyone ever done any comparison's between portable's and home deck's in term's of recording/playback quality? Thanks
aeriyn
The N10 and the JB940 both support ATRAC Type-R recording for SP mode recordings. Some folk say there's no difference between portable and deck recordings as long as the ATRAC is equal... but I'm not so sure. If I were you, I'd use the JB940 for recording music, and the N10 for a paperweight. Or you can sell me your JB940... (Just kidding. )
watcher666
ahhh but it's the "UK tuned special edition" , So you wont like it!!! Ok, i'll use the JB940 for recording and the N10 for a paperwe.....erm playing! :rasp:

Im not sure either! The JB940 is VERY heavy, and when you look inside it's packed with tecnology, so all that must be doing something!!! Especially when you compare it to the tiny single PCB of most portables! Id like to read the result's of any listening test's that people have done! skyther
JB940 weight = power supply. UK tuned is good, because it uses better caps and components than the normal versions.
watcher666
UK tuned is good, because it uses better caps and components than the normal versions. ahhhhh, so all those better component's must produce better result's than those tiny and compacted surface mount component's on portable's? skyther
No, I'm talking about the UK tuned JB940 vs a standard JB940.
watcher666
yeah, so if sound's better because of the hiquer quality component's then it must sound better than a portable because the minature surface mount caps etc are not of that higher quality and don't last long!
