What do you guys think? DR77 or NH1 for recording?

Hi guys, I'm in the market for a new minidisc recorder and I'm here to decide whether to go with the Sharp MD-DR77 or the new Sony NH1. I like the recording features and quality of the sharp much better than that of the sony (particularly the speed control, I don't mind the pitch change - I'd rather preserve the sound quality and transpose), however I don't know if the ability to upload digitally gives sony the big advantage. I'm going to be recording concerts, instrumental rehersals and performances, and any other stray events as a trombone major - mostly for my own private use - but putting recordings on cd and archiving my computer is definetly something I'll be doing. So I guess my question is, does Sharp's legendary recording quality and reputation still make it the better choice considering I'll have to upload to my computer via analog? Also I will be doing my fair share of playing on the recorder too, but putting the songs on the unit in real time isn't that big of a deal to me. Thanks alot guys for your opinions.

-Mitch

Hello and welcome to the forums......

well i would say that if you have no problem with uploading via analog then sharp would be better seeing as how the wuality by most iopinions is better and uploading through sonicstage is not the most fruity way of doing the upload

so my choice would be the sharp only if you really dont need to upload or need higher storage capaccity, or uncompressed music.

MAX rcording time on regular md = 5 houres

MAX time on Hi-MD (that can be recorded live) = 34 houres

capacity is also an issue here.........

Quite a bit, I'd say, at least in principle. The Sharp upload will have to be an analogue recording of compressed data. The Sony upload will be digital and (potentially) uncompressed. I'm also not too keen on the Sharp's 'Line' output via it's Auvi amp - the output voltage has been halved compared to earlier Sharp MD units and there's a 4-3 pole conversion stage. Of course you could copy digitally if you had a suitable deck...
