LizM Posted October 29, 2004 Report Share Posted October 29, 2004 I'm having a weird issue with my Sony N1. I admit I'm not too familiar with its complex capabilities. I use it mostly as a backup audio source for my wedding videography business. I've noticed that everything I record only plays back in one earbud or one speaker... the sound isn't balanced. I thought that this was because I was using a low quality (LP2 or LP4) for the weddings. But last night I used it for fun for the first time and recorded my friend's band's performance. The recording came out pretty well (I used SP and put the mic sens on low), but when I play it back, it still only comes out on one side of the headphones and one speaker. Did I do something during the recording to cause this? Or is this a simple problem and I just need to adjust the playback balance. I looked all through the N1 manual and haven't been able to figure out how to adjust the Left/Right balance. I apologize for the dumb question, but am thankful for any help you can give!!! aeriyn Posted October 30, 2004 Report Share Posted October 30, 2004 Since you use your MD unit for business purposes, I would suggest purchasing a higher-quality microphone... but I need to know how much you can spend. If you have any suggestions for a better mic, that would be cool, but I really don't want to spend more than $50. It's a back-up audio source that hardly ever gets used, and has done well. For now, though, I'd like to be able to play back the recordings I've already made. Isn't there some way on the N1 to adjust the Left/Right balance? KJ_Palmer Posted October 30, 2004 Report Share Posted October 30, 2004 Liz, check the input jack on the mic. If it's a mono mic it will have only 2 metal sections. If it's stereo it will have three - like a stereo headphone jack. So, if it's a mono mic, set your N1 to record in mono - it will record equally to both channels. If it's a stereo mic, either make sure you push the plug right in before recording, or make sure all your contacts are clean (clean them if necessary)... For the one-sided recordings you've already made, you should be able to get a mono to stereo mixer cable or adapter from radioshack or similar... Hope that's of help...
