Replacing pre-NetMD recorder

Hi,

I'm new to these forums, but have been using MD's for several years now.

I have an 'old' MZ-R70, pre-PC version, and I've really enjoyed using it these past three plus years.

Now I have been wondering what I would replace it with if it broke down.

It still works great, but I have been wondering how much longer it'll keep going.

I have considered getting a HDD MP3 player, such as an iPod, but it would be a shame to throw away my MD collection.

I really haven't considered the new Hi-MD format since I use a Mac and I know Sony isn't particularly Mac friendly.

Are the NetMD, and for that matter, Hi-MD units capable of the old real-time recording speed? I understand they can play them, but I was wondering if they recorded as well.

I really haven't followed the progress of the MD units for a while now. The last recorder I remember liking was the MZ-R900. So I haven't paid any particular attention to NetMD or Hi-MD.

And I don't have a price point, since a HDD player can be as high as $600.

What's a good, near top level real-time recorder?

Sorry for the lengthy post.

apart from the cheapest or entry level, net & himd are capable of recording in realtime via optical &/or analog. you may as well go for a himd as price is about the same for netmd & the greater range of recording formats plus greater capacity discs are complemented by full backward compatibility with your old discs
