EnTransit
Howdy, I keep trying to find a recorder for live recording. Everything I come across has no Mic In though, and if it does it is very expensice. Is there a recorder with Mic-In for >$$250? Also, I need to make a live recording for competition puroposes. Will the Mini Disc recorder have high enough quality? Wont sound Nasal? Or get too hot? Josh
KJ_Palmer
Helo & welcome. There are a few MD recorders with mic inputs around the $250 mark. Try some of these portables at minidisco.com for starters. The Sony-NHF800 looks good value, as it includes a radio remote, or the Sharp DR420 is a solid old-style recorder. Not sure what you mean by 'nasal', both these will give high quality, the Sony edging it with the new lossless recording capability... dex Otaku
You should be able to find used Sony and Sharp recorders with mic inputs for under $100 on eBay.
atrain
i'd be going with the himd units such as the nhf-800 because of the bigger capacity discs, uploading of personally recorded tracks, more & better bitrates &c have a look at the himd faq at www.minidisc.org & have a look around the forums for info on this unit. it means ignoring the earlier netmd units & relatime only units & menas spending right up to your budget but i do feel the extra recording options should tip the balance. good luck & keep us informed
A440
Amazon has the NHF800 for 219.94 at the moment. A pair of basic binaural mics (from the usual suspects like www.soundprofessionals.com or www.microphonemadness.com or www.reactivesounds.com) will run you under $100. It's not quite below $250 total, but it will do your job quite well. The NHF800 will give you as much fidelity as your mics can provide.
