MiniDiscCoolYay
First off, my apologies to the die hards/purists for coming in here with some novice questions. Second off, whoever runs this place is the greatest. This site is so detailed and comprehensive and you provide a ton of information that keeps the MiniDisc relevant and alive. You definitely deserve compensation because people who buy a MiniDisc product will undoubtedly be visiting this place. Sony and whoever else seem to have done very little to offer this kind of help and information. Basically: THANK YOU. Also, I'd suggest getting a web designer for your site. I am a Graphic Designer (I focus on printed material so this isn't a plug!). I think the site could benefit greatly from a stronger design (clarity of text in some areas, uniity of elements, a single font style). Just a reccommendation. O.k, my questions finally: I own a Sony MZ-S1 (the sports model) It came with the open MG and simple burner software. I'd like to know if any other software can do the song transfer (PC>MD) any faster. I'm clocking about a minute and a half per song. I find it a long time to wait when I want to put 50 or 60 songs on a disc. Also, I can transfer my songs to MD in LP2, LP4 or "Stereo". What's the best quality? and what is "Stereo"?. Is "Stereo" high quality? Does HI-MD have superior sound quality (than MD players like the MZ-S1)? Is there a carry case large enough for the clunky MZ-S1? I bought a MD carry case but it's too small. It's made for the other players. Thanks for your patience and help...
Kaotic
Also, I can transfer my songs to MD in LP2, LP4 or "Stereo". What's the best quality? and what is "Stereo"?. Thanks for your patience and help... :smile:hmm, best quality. that would be record at PCM mode. which is uncompressed, similar to wav file. In MD/NetMD, whether it's SP, LP2, LP4,. or in Hi-MD records other than wav/PCM mode. they are 'ALL' compressed, eventho it's "Stereo". it's not the 'BEST' quality. but it is high quality. if Hi-MD records at PCM mode, then it does have superior sound quality than your MZ-S1. hope this answer some of your Qs. We don't get too many testiments like this, actually. Also, I'd suggest getting a web designer for your site. I am a Graphic Designer (I focus on printed material so this isn't a plug!). I think the site could benefit greatly from a stronger design (clarity of text in some areas, uniity of elements, a single font style). Just a reccommendation.Referring to the forums or the parent website, minidisc.org? O.k, my questions finally: I own a Sony MZ-S1 (the sports model) It came with the open MG and simple burner software. I'd like to know if any other software can do the song transfer (PC>MD) any faster.First off, please upgrade to Sonicstage 2.2 @ connect.com, as I assume you're employing Sonicstage 1.5. Also, I can transfer my songs to MD in LP2, LP4 or "Stereo". What's the best quality? and what is "Stereo"?. Is "Stereo" high quality?http://minidisc.org/NetMD_faq.html Sorta outdated, but the information relevant to answering that question is above. btw, Stereo mode, more commonly known as SP, is not real with NetMD transfers; it's rebadged LP2. Unfortunately, SP mode can only truly be achieve by recording in realtime, whether it be analog or digital [i.e. toslink to miniplug connection]. So, if you're doing NetMD transfers only, just stick to LP2. Does HI-MD have superior sound quality (than MD players like the MZ-S1)?There is no unified answer on this, but the general impression is yes. There are still some hard enthusiasts for the old SP mode, but the new Hi-MD bitrates offer a little more flexibility [i.e. PCM]. I think one of the main reasons why old ATRAC/3 is favored a bit more with the enthusiasts is because it's matured, whereas ATRAC3plus, which is used with Hi-MD, is still sorta in it's infancy. Is there a carry case large enough for the clunky MZ-S1? I bought a MD carry case but it's too small. It's made for the other players. A million of them. MiniDiscCoolYay
Thanks so much for your help. I appreciate it. I'm sorry I didn't say this sooner but I thought I'd get a notification of a response in my e-mail but I guess I didn't set that preference. Anyway, thanks again! MiniDiscCoolYay
Thank You for all the help. I really appreciate it. About the website designer, I believe I'm referring to the main page (www.minidisc.org). However, I checked it out again and It's really not bad at all. I think it could use some tweaking that's all. I guess something to unify all the different sections (through use of color, font, etc...). It still seems to have a technical/scientific look to it. This may be what was intended anyway. :rasp: I'll follow all the steps you've mentioned. and thanks again for the assistance. I'm sorry for not replying sooner but I didn't get a notification of a posted reply in my e-mail.
