Today, my 700 has come unstuck and now has problems, the computer doesn't see the minidisc anymore.

on the first go, the player was connected to the computer while it was "asleep", nothing happens even if it should awaken upon connecting to computer

on the second go the disc was taken out, then put back in, while the disc is spinning, the player is connected to the computer, it will say pc>>md but nothing happens at the computer's end and the disc will spin continuously, looks like the minidisc got the computer's greeting but didn't greet back. Just took the disc out, it is still "spinning" and saying pc>>md even after the disc is removed.

on the third go reconnect the player to the computer while open, and put a disc in, the player stays asleep

Has anyone got a way to fix this problem ???

It was connected direct to computer. It worked normally until yesterday when the minidisc suddenly quit and wouldn't work anymore.

Also been trying to take it to Sony for repair as the player may be broken inside, but the proof of purchase is still nowhere to be found, even after digging through nearly everywhere it possibly could be.

It still records and plays normally, just the usb connector doesn't work anymore.

Got no pda and no pda synchronizers and directly connecting the player to pc did nothing so now it's off to the repair shop .

Finally found the proof of purchase (after turning the house upside down) and after spending 40 minutes trying to find the repair center (which is hidden at the end of a maze of streets), finally sent it in.

Now it's back to tape recording again for the next few weeks unfortunately. Got a brand new tape recording walkman (tcm200dv) later that day as the battered old tape recorder (tcm20dv) has lost a lot of its sound quality.

  • 3 weeks later...

damn man ur screwed, that``s why u save all those checks man! all my big purchases checks are always in the place i know where to find.

give it to sonystore anyways, it might not be expensive to repair that minor problem.

Your extremely wrong CrackBone, no more stupid jokes, the proof of purchase was found and it said so before your post.

Got the player back today, exactly the same problem as before, also tried it on the other computers at home today, the player introduces itself to the other computers, but the disc doesn't spin like when it was brand new meaning the player must still be broken in the same way as before, guess the only way out is to get the original factory settings restored because it's now obvious how this one slipped through the cracks.

Now it's back to getting the player fixed again.

Xindows xp and Sonicstage 2.1

It also looks like Sonicstage has nothing to do with it as the player doesn't tell the computer it's there.

The other computers tried was a win98 notebook (it asked for a driver, saying the player was found) and my sister's xp notebook (it did everything as before and appeared as storage) except the disc didn't spin as it should do.

Have you tried using a different USB cable?

Incidentally, if you've taken it for repair and it still doesn't work - go back to the repair depot and ask them to plug it in and test it, right in front of you. That way you will know conclusively whether it works or not, and will prove it to them as well.

Also, it would help to know what they diagnosed the problem as when they repaired it. It's possible that something as unlikely as your compute having a bad USB port or bad power regulation caused the problem in the first place - which would explain how they repaired it and had it working, but it didn't work as soon as you plugged it in to your computer.

Did buy a new cord a while back as a spare, but it ended up being the one used the most.

One day the player worked, the next it didn't, while at the same time nothing was changed on the computer and no errors happened.

~~~more late news~~~
The repair shop said the previous repairs was resoldering the usb connectors and the repairers didn't look at the player's electronics. Warranty repairs are not done there and get sent off far away. Hopefully it comes back fixed properly this time.
~~~noteworthy coincidence~~~

This time the minidisc repair was labeled "job 7240", not much later, a bus numbered 7240 was taken, only found out after getting off so it's a real coincidence.
