jadeclaw
You don't have to reformat the disc, just enter the drive correctly as Superfloppy in fstab: /dev/sdd /mnt/himd vfat umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-15,sync,kudzu,codepage=850,noauto,exec,users 0 0 My NH700 reports as /dev/sdd , it could be different depending on the number of other USB-drives connected, KDE checks on startup for this entry and creates an icon on the desktop, which allows for easy mounting. Replace /mnt/himd with the directory, where you want to mount the drive. For easy unmounting, add an icon, containing this line: umount -l /dev/sdd Of course, replace /dev/sdd with the device name, that your system reports. Oh, and if you wonder, why I haven't added a partition number to the device name, it is simple: Minidiscs don't have a partition table. They are superfloppies... Latexxx
Ubuntu can do stuff like this completely automatically.
daiv
thx jadeclaw! that will make my life a lot easier. i was going to probably just try to mount it without mounting it as a super floppy in fstab, even though when i mounted it last night i went th rough that whole process. i think i started to block it out and forget it ever happened, it was so painful.... haha, well at least i learned how to use fdisk last night. superfloppies! haha, i was wondering how other people were using them as minidisc music players and linux usb drives. and latexxx.... shame on you. why do you think we're on linux? cuz we want it done the easy way! no, haha. not for me, at least. i was so mad that suse 9 (unlike 7, idk about 8) auto mounted my floppy and cd drives. it ruined all my fun. seriously though, i've heard some stuff about ubuntu. i have to try it. that and debian and xandros and gentoo. someone told me i should try gentoo... it sounds painful. i tried mandrake and i hated it. maybe when i get my hands on a crappy computer to make a web server i'll put a different version of linux on it than just suse. jadeclaw
I tried SuSE. And I hated it. 7.0 was buggy, 8.2 was buggy as well. I hope, that after GPL-ing YAST, the bugs will finally take a hike... I'm using Mandrake 10.1 and it runs without any problems here. Normally it finds the HiMD by itself, but diskdrake stumbles over the missing partition table. And since the automounter isn't reliably unmounting disks, I mount and unmount my disks manually. Latexxx
Suse is somewhat slow. I tried 9.1 and it was almost unusable on my pentium 3 eventhough it uses kde. Ubuntu is really nice but unfortunately it only ships with gnome which is also far too slow to be of any benefit on my computer.

To my knowledge, users who have tried it with emulators have met limited success at best.
