akoi_kust
Hello, I'm new here.My brother (residing in another city) recorded a piece of music through a microphone to his Hi-MD recorder on a 1GB Hi-MD disc. Now I am trying to upload that song from the same Hi-MD disc (he sent it to me) to my PC, through my own Hi-MD recorder. I connected the device (with the disc inside) to my PC and launched SonicStage, and after clicking on "Transfer", nothing shows up. After clicking on "Properties" at the bottom and then "Cancel" to close that window, the following message shows up: "Cannot use this disc as an audio disc because it was initialized by a program other than SonicStage. Click on Properties to initialize the disc to use it as an audio disc."However, it clears states that after initializing, all the data will be lost on the disc. So my question is, is there any way that I can transfer it into my computer? If so, how? Thanks in advance,Kaoru

akoi_kust
First, thank you for answering. I'm sorry, but I don't completely understand. What would be the "line out" from my Hi-MD (MZ-NH700)? Is it headphone/earphones jack? Also, what line would I use for such a connection? Lastly, I assume that the "line in" on my PC would be the microphone jack, but please correct me if I'm wrong.
maaszy
I am not sure the 700 has a "line" out, but you can certainly use the headphones out - the difference is just how "hot" the signal is presented - headphones being a hotter signal than a line out.On your soundcard you are best advised to use the line in, not the mic in - the pre-amps on the mic-in will add noise and are in any case designed for the weak signal from a mic, not the hot signal from a headphone output. I suggest that you set the recording level on your soundcard mixer to about 3/4 and then adjust the volume of your MD on play back so the headphone signal presents a reasonable signal level in your soundcard recording software. You will need some sort of recording software - you can use windows basic recorder or google up audacity for a freebie wave editor/recorderhth
akoi_kust
Thank you so much for the clarification. One last question (yes, I am very dumb) - what type of line (or wire thing) should I use to connect the MD to the PC? And is it commonly available in electronic stores?
