Can't Import Cd To Sonicstage 2.3

Hi, I'm getting a nh900 to replace my sharp mt877 that just died. I'm trying to get a jump start on copying some of my CDs into atrac format into My Library in sonic stage, and I just can't figure out how to do it. It wants to try to burn a CD, but I just want to copy the files to my hard drive.

Am I an idiot for not being able to make this work? I don't know if it makes a difference, but the CD is a CDR, it's music I recorded and was burned in Samplitude.

hi Darjama,

Don't know about the samplitude stuff, but I've succesfully transferred CDR's to 'my library' with SonicStage...

one of the first things everyone asks when it comes to SonicStage, have you got the latest version (2.3)?

Then, as far as I know, to copy a cd to your library: just start SonicStage, insert the CD in your computer, go to 'music source' (the blue button on the top-left next to 'my library') and simply press transfer (after setting your preferred format and bitrate)

I hope I could help (and that you hadn't already tried all this) but believe me, there is no shame in being unable to work with SonicStage right away... Sony makes good players but it's software is very doubtfull... (hope the renewed interest in SonicStage helps)

although... before I forget, the players - and then I especially mean the NH-900 - can be a pain in the 'behind' too... if you don't know what I'm talking about, go see my thread 'entered the NH-900 twilight zone?' in the technical support area...

I'm using v2.3. I go to 'music source,' click on the red box with an arrow in it under record (transfer just takes me to a different screen that seems to offer options for burning CDs), and I get a message that says "this CD cannot be recorded." I'm not trying to record a CD, I just want to write the tracks into my library.

I'm still perplexed. I was able to rip the CD in another program (CDEX) and then bring the mp3s into sonicstage, but that seems like a silly way to go.

of course, '-> in record' was the button I meant, sorry for the mistake (I didn't check the program anymore before posting)...

strange, even with CDR's of very bad quality (scratched and very old) 'record' seems to work for me...

have you tried any other cd's (non cdR and definately not with self-recorded music on them?) just to eliminate possibilities. If these work fine, you could be quite sure it's a format incompatibility...

but then again, I'm only a beginner myself who's only used SonicStage so I'm kinda unknowing and crappiness-numb ;-)

Welcome, darjama..

The way it works is you click on the Music Source icon [make sure the drop down menu says "Record a CD"] - assure that the contents of the CD are on the left and "My Library" is on the right, and then set the desired format/bitrate and then hit the red record button.

Additionally, please refer to the help documentation within Sonicstage 2.3.

Unfortunately, since I only have one CD drive, when I select record a CD, it doesn't want to let me transfer to the computer unless there's a writable CD in the drive. Hooking up my minidisc player changed this, since writing to the minidisc became an option. SOnicstage documentation didn't contain anything relevant or helpful. I can do the transfers, but it seems silly that the md has to be hooked up to do this.
