Can one assume this would also power the RH line of units?  If so, this would be awfully handy.  Despite the fact that the RH line comes with a AC/DC Brick, it'd allow for consolidation of chargers into one.

I think it's plausible to say that one can't utilize the new USB AC-U50A with the MZ-RH series. This is simply because the AC Adaptor required to power the MZ-RH series is rated at 3V whereas the new USB AC-U50A is rated at 5V – using the latter with the RH series is simply dangerous.

Interesting ....

Do the USB ports on a computer function slightly differently to this dedicated USB unit as they can power a Minidisc player or a flash player ?

Are the Computer USB ports variable via software, automatically or drivers depending on the attached device's needs ?

Are the power requirements for USB connection and the "DC in" different on a Minidisc recorder/player ?

Given the voltage difference between the two adaptors its not an experiment I'd actually want to try on a Minidisc unit.

Looks like this USB AC-U50A could be plugged in almost anywhere in the world depending on the types of blades it has.

True, but I'd assume that it'd be okay to feed any USB device power from this or other said devices since USB runs on 5V rail. Since the USB cable that connects the RH910/10 to the PC doesn't have any way to convert 5V to 3V (ie, no transformers or such), one would assume that the unit has a way of transforming 5V down to 3V.

I wouldn't hesistate too much, your RH unit is getting fed 5V everytime you connect it to your PC.

you can use only"Sony USB AC Adaptor | AC-U50A" with your network walkman i.eNW-E407

Thanks, seems I have wasted my money buying one from e-bay, the seller did say it is compatible with MP3 etc. Can you please charge your battery using the usb and using the internet at the same time? Also being a newbie how do you delete tracks on your MP3 NWE 407? Have not had time to go through the manuals. Thanks again

Yes.

Also being a newbie how do you delete tracks on your MP3 NWE 407?

You can delete tracks using Sonic stage.Connect your player to your computer & then you can delete tracks from your nw-e407 using sonic stage software.

Its my request to you to read instruction manual,As it will solve many of your problem concerning your network walkman. & for use Sonic stage help file

Feel free to ask any question

Seems to be similar to the new A series ones. I haven't seen any AC adapters for the older E400, E500s, but one thing that annoyed me with my MD is the AC adapter could only be used in North america, where as now, the adapter is from 100-240V, which was a smart move by sony at last. Charge is pretty fast using the AC rather than just USB.

Only difference between this and the A series one is the mA, 500 vs 800 for the A1000. Anyone know what it is for the A3000?

An alternate to charging MP3 players that normally charge off a USB port (i.e. NW-E507, iPod Shuffle, ...) is to use a simple USB hub (that takes power input). In the US, retailers like xPCGear sells some for like $9 with free shipping.

I have a mini USB 4 port hub, each port is rated to supply the standard 500mA draw. The good thing is that with one AC-to-DC power adapter plugged into the hub (without a connection to a computer), I can charge 4 devices at once.

Anything that's standard USB should be able to safely charge the Sony, since its 5V rail should permit at the 500mA draw that is required.

Received my USB travel charger from Hong Kong this morning.

OUTPUT: DC5V+5%

-

MAX: 500MA MIN: 50MA

It's unbranded and made in china with the logo CE. Do not understand any of this except 240 V is ok to use in UK.

Not sure how safe it is to use, shall I bin in? Cost me about £6 from e-bay.Thanks

Even though the regular sony AC adapter is made in china as well, it looks solid.

the stats on adapter are as follows:

5V

input: AC100-240V ~ 50/60Hz 6Q

ouput: DC5V 800mA

Depends what you are charging actually, if you are planning on charging the smaller flash players, 500mA seems to be enough I would imagine, but do check the Hz frequency in england, since the one you picked up since to only offer 50, while the sony model does 50/60.

Remember if something is too good to be true price wise it usually is.
